This article investigates the adaptive resource allocation scheme for digital twin (DT) synchronization optimization over dynamic wireless networks. In our considered model, a base station (BS) continuously collects factory physical object state data from wireless devices to build a real-time virtual DT system for factory event analysis. Due to continuous data transmission, maintaining DT synchronization must use extensive wireless resources. To address this issue, a subset of devices is selected to transmit their sensing data, and resource block (RB) allocation is optimized. This problem is formulated as a constrained Markov process (CMDP) problem that minimizes the long-term mismatch between the physical and virtual systems. To solve this CMDP, we first transform the problem into a dual problem that refines RB constraint impacts on device scheduling strategies. We then propose a continual reinforcement learning (CRL) algorithm to solve the dual problem. The CRL algorithm learns a stable policy across historical experiences for quick adaptation to dynamics in physical states and network capacity. Simulation results show that the CRL can adapt quickly to network capacity changes and reduce normalized root mean square error (NRMSE) between physical and virtual states by up to 55.2%, using the same RB number as traditional methods. © 2025 IEEE. Mobile edge computing (MEC) has produced incredible outcomes in the context of computationally intensive mobile applications by offloading computation to a neighboring server to limit the energy usage of user equipment (UE). However, choosing a pool of application components to offload in addition to the volume of data transfer along with the latency in communication is an intricate issue. In this article, we introduce a novel energy-efficient offloading scheme based on deep neural networks. The proposed scheme trains an intelligent decision-making model that picks a robust pool of application components. The selection is based on factors such as the remaining UE battery power, network conditions, the volume of data transfer, required energy by the application components, postponements in communication, and computational load. We have designed the cost function taking all the mentioned factors, get the cost for all conceivable combinations of component offloading decisions, pick the robust decisions over an extensive dataset, and train a deep neural network as a substitute for the exhaustive computations associated. Model outcomes illustrate that our proposed scheme is proficient in the context of accuracy, root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), and energy usage of UE. © 2023 Israr Khan et al.

Developing force control mechanisms employing electromagnetic solutions is on the rise in active control applications for flexible mechanical systems, like marine engines and shipboard machinery. Electromagnetic control devices offer superior performance indicators compared to traditional mechanical force actuators in terms of longevity, energy efficiency, maintenance requirements, rapid control response, and high operating speeds. This article investigates the use of magnetic actuation and switching power electronics in addressing the stabilization and tracking control challenges encountered in the dynamics of a mechanical system with a single degree of freedom, comprising mass, spring, and damper elements. Particularly, a linear mechanical oscillator is nonlinearly coupled with an electromagnet and its associated driving circuit via the magnetic field. The electromagnetically actuated mechanical system exhibits characteristics of a deferentially flat nonlinear system. A control strategy is suggested for the purpose of tracking reference position trajectories using output feedback linearization. The synthetic linearized control signal is subsequently guided to a DC–DC buck converter, able to regulate the system's input voltage in a wide range of operation, by switching the duty cycle. The converter is described using a precise electrical model of the system, accounting for parasitic resistances in the inductor, capacitor, and switches. An averaged state space approach is utilized to create a mathematical nonlinear model for the converter which is then linearized by employing the Exact Feedback Linearization technique. By applying optimal control theory, the controller's coefficients are fine-tuned for optimal performance. To assess the proposed method's performance, the dynamics of the compensated mechatronic system is simulated using MATLAB/Simulink. The environmental behavior of building occupants has become the key factor in determining indoor thermal comfort and building energy performance. The diversity and randomness of occupant behavior may lead to variations in building energy consumption. Early studies on shading occupant behavior have increasingly involved mathematical tools to establish a mathematical model for correlating shading behavior patterns and energy consumption. However, the existing model does not consider the multiple states of shading (only fully open, fully closed, or half-open state, which has a large deviation from the actual situation), accessibility of shading behavior (ASB), room configuration (single people room and multi-people room), occupancy rate and other factors, resulting in low accuracy of the model. This study proposed an index of the ASB to analyze and explore the characteristics of blind occupant adjustment behavior (named shading behavior afterwards). It also promotes an occupant-centric consideration in occupant behavior studying. By using the accessibility classification of shading behavior with building parameters, blinds can be quickly divided into four types: high ASB, medium ASB, general ASB, and low ASB. Based on the results of shading classification and integrating the data mining techniques such as data feature selection, soft voting, and Markov method was integrated, a high-resolution shading occupant behavior (HRSOB) model is proposed. Using the measured data of office buildings on a case study campus, the model selects the optimal algorithm and evaluates and verifies the HRSOB model. The results show that the predictive performance of the HRSOB model is improved by 10.92% compared with the typical SOB model. Finally, the advantages and disadvantages of the model are discussed. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

For several years, traffic congestion has been a major problem in big cities where the number of cars and different means of transportation has been increasing significantly. The problem of congestion is becoming more and more critical, and if not treated smartly this issue will negatively affect drivers by wasting time and fuel gas while waiting for hours in lanes. This paper presents a new and smart way to mitigate this issue in an affordable cost, minimum processing power, and low power consumption. This concept takes into consideration the majority of the cases that may cause congestion and presents a smart and accurate outputs to ease traffic flow leading to the prediction of the peak hours of traffic congestion for smarter control. A model is designed to study the case of a four lanes crossroad with two traffic lights and two LCD monitors. The strategy in reading data is divided into two parts: real data from sensors and pre collected data from google maps to create a kind of a predicted pattern over a certain time interval. The responsiveness of the system is analyzed thoroughly, and the accuracy of all possible cases is carefully considered and evaluated. Each part of the system was tested alone, and the overall system is still in an ongoing testing phase. The results have shown minimum faulty errors and accepted outputs that can lead to safe traffic control decisions. Finally, integrating more IoT devices and sensors between V2V, V2P, V2I with the help of artificial intelligence will definitely optimize this system with higher accuracy.

The growing demand for location-based services in areas like virtual reality, robot control, and navigation has intensified the focus on indoor localization. Visible light positioning (VLP), leveraging visible light communications (VLC), becomes a promising indoor positioning technology due to its high accuracy and low cost. This paper provides a comprehensive survey of VLP systems. In particular, since VLC lays the foundation for VLP, we first present a detailed overview of the principles of VLC. Then, we provide an in-depth overview of VLP algorithms. The performance of each positioning algorithm is also compared in terms of various metrics such as accuracy, coverage, and orientation limitation. Beyond the physical layer studies, the network design for a VLP system is also investigated, including multi-access technologies, resource allocation, and light-emitting diode (LED) placements. Next, the applications of the VLP systems are overviewed. Finally, this paper outlines open issues, challenges, and opportunities for the research field. In a nutshell, this paper constitutes the first holistic survey on VLP from state-of-the-art studies to practical uses. © 1998-2012 IEEE.

Security in systems and networks has always been a major issue for IT administrators. When it comes to medical applications, this concern is much more important due to the sensitivity of data and the risks that may be caused due to alteration or falsification of such critical information. The proposed paper presents a solution to assure the best security possible in such an environment. Thus, based on an application that monitors a driver's health while driving his car, a data diode will be implemented in order to assure security of the system by forcing unidirectional flow of network data to the healthcare provider side. Added to that, an AI-based program will be developed to verify the confidentiality, the integrity and the availability of the exchanged data and to check the patient health for abnormalities. Every sub-part of the system has been tested separately and results have shown that falsified data has been filtered out of the received end, e.g. the healthcare provider side. © 2022 The authors and IOS Press.

Humans always face problems when it comes to medical check-up due to lack of time or laziness. However, lots of medical problems and fatal illnesses can be detected at earlier stages if the person is subject to continuous check-up. Hence, the idea of the proposed system is to design a tool enabling the measurement of the basic vital signs with the smallest effort possible from the person's side. Thus, this paper proposes a smart medical mirror system that acts as a normal mirror and also delivers the basic vital signs of the user such as the heart rate, SPO2, body temperature, and Body Mass Index (BMI). The system takes five seconds for initialization and starts the measurements and displays the results. The user will not lose time as this check-up can be performed every morning while the person is wearing his clothes and getting ready to start his daily activities. The system was tested by multiple users having different body statuses. The recorded values showed very small differences with the exact ones. At the end, the system was able to meet the user specifications concerning its portability, sensitivity, accuracy and, most importantly, its low cost. © 2020 IEEE.
