Ransomware attacks pose a significant threat to critical infrastructures,demanding robust detection *** study introduces a hybrid model that combines vision transformer(ViT)and one-dimensional convolutional neural network(1DCNN)architectures to enhance ransomware detection *** common challenges in ransomware detection,particularly dataset class imbalance,the synthetic minority oversampling technique(SMOTE)is employed to generate synthetic samples for minority class,thereby improving detection *** integration of ViT and 1DCNN through feature fusion enables the model to capture both global contextual and local sequential features,resulting in comprehensive ransomware *** on the UNSW-NB15 dataset,the proposed ViT-1DCNN model achieved 98%detection accuracy with precision,recall,and F1-score metrics surpassing conventional *** approach not only reduces false positives and negatives but also offers scalability and robustness for real-world cybersecurity *** results demonstrate the model’s potential as an effective tool for proactive ransomware detection,especially in environments where evolving threats require adaptable and high-accuracy solutions.

Tomatoes are essential fruits in numerous nations for their vast demand. It is very important to maintain the freshness of tomatoes. One of the primary challenges in the recent culinary landscape is accurately identifying healthy tomatoes while effectively eliminating damaged or rejected ones. Existing approaches employ various strategies for categorizing tomato fruit, but they often suffer from inaccuracies, slow detection, and suboptimal performance. Thus, motivated by this gap, in this paper, we propose a novel machine learning (ML) framework, ViT-SENet-Tom, which is a hybrid vision transformer (ViT) model with squeeze and excitation (SENet) block network for fast, accurate, and efficient tomato fruit classification. The framework works on three tomato classes, respectively, the ripe, unripe, and reject. In developing the proposed model, we utilized advanced and newly designed layers and functions. This integration created a more complex and sophisticated neural network, significantly enhancing efficiency and contributing to the model’s novelty. Our chosen dataset was small initially, but we implemented augmentation techniques to increase its size. This approach made our system more reliable, efficient, and effective. The hybrid ViT-SENet framework employs encoders and self-attention networks with squeeze and excitation channel functions to allow precise, robust, fast, and efficient tomato classification. In simulation, the framework achieves a training accuracy of 99.87% and validation accuracy of 93.87%, indicating the precise classification of tomatoes. Besides, this work tests accuracy using fivefold cross-validation. The highest accuracy seen at fold-5 is 99.90%. These testing results demonstrate the efficacy of the proposed framework in real-deployment scenarios. The implementation has the potential to provide enhanced and more sustainable food security and safety in future. © The Author(s) 2025.

FlexIM: Efficient and Verifiable Index Management in Blockchain

Blockchain-based query with its traceability and data provenance has become increasingly popular and widely adopted in numerous applications. Yet existing index-based query approaches are only efficient under static blockchain query workloads where the query attribute or type must be fixed. It turns out to be particularly challenging to construct an efficient index for dynamic workloads due to prohibitively long construction time and excessive storage consumption. In this paper, we present FlexIM, the first efficient and verifiable index management system for blockchain dynamic queries. The key innovation in FlexIM is to uncover the inherent characteristics of blockchain, i.e., data distribution and block access frequency, and then to optimally choose the index by utilizing reinforcement learning technique under varying workloads. In addition, we enhance and facilitate verifiability with low storage overhead by leveraging Root Merkle Tree (RMT) and Bloom Filter Merkle Tree (BMT). Our comprehensive evaluations demonstrate that FlexIM outperforms the state-of-the-art blockchain query mechanism, vChain+, by achieving a 26.5% speedup while consuming 94.2% less storage, on average, over real-world Bitcoin datasets. 1989-2012 IEEE.

A Fully LTPS-TFT-Based Bi-Directional Biomedical Interface Circuit for Large-Area Healthcare Applications

This paper proposed a fully LTPS-TFT-based bi-directional biomedical pixel interface with integrated a high linearity stimulator and a high-performance bio-potential sensing front-end circuit to amplify and digitize biological signals for high robustness data transmission. All circuits are designed and manufactured under a 3-μm LTPS process. We demonstrated the experiment in saline using the stimulator circuit to simulate stimulation inside the organism, achieving stimulation with different average currents under different duty cycles. The proposed front-end circuit has a gain of 40 dB. The referred input voltage noise of the entire signal chain is 86.2 μV/√Hz, and the ENOB is 9.13 bits at an input of 0.5 mVPP. Simultaneously conducting statistical testing on 20 chips has achieved a 1.05 dB SNDR standard deviation. Finally, we use a function signal generator to simulate the input signals of ECoG, ECG, and EOG, then use front-end circuits to read and reconstruct them to demonstrate that the proposed pixel interface can correctly read common biomedical signals for healthcare applications. © 2022 IEEE.

Dynamic generative R-CNN

Different techniques have been developed for object detection and recognition. These techniques can be divided into single-shot and two-shot methods. Single-shot methods focus on real-time applications, while two-shot methods are used in applications requiring higher accuracy. However, different versions of the two-shot techniques produce limited results in terms of accuracy and speed, or both. Therefore, this study proposes a novel model called dynamic generative R-CNN (DGR-CNN) that reduces the number of proposed regions using a dynamic programming model that applies the graph similarity method over graph-based image segmentation. Additionally, the proposed model employs DCGAN technique to improve detection performance. DGR-CNN reduces the overall detection and classification time and enhances the detection accuracy. The PASCAL VOC2007 and MS COCO datasets were utilized to evaluate the model. The results showed that DGR-CNN significantly reduces the number of candidate regions compared to the selective search algorithm employed in R-CNN and fast R-CNN. Although fast R-CNN utilizes 2000 regions and faster R-CNN utilizes 300 regions, DGR-CNN reduces the number of regions to approximately 130. The mean average precision of the proposed method was 75.1% on the PASCAL VOC2007, while fast and faster R-CNN scored 66.9% and 69.9%, respectively. Moreover, the DGR-CNN model significantly improved the classification accuracy when tested on the MS COCO dataset, achieving an MAP of 68.76%, compared with 32.64% and 42.3% for fast and faster R-CNN. This increase in accuracy was achieved without significantly compromising the speed compared with faster R-CNN. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

The AC-DC Energy Nodes (ADENs) concept offers a transformative approach to modernizing power grids, particularly in the context of supergrids. By centralizing power flows from diverse renewable energy sources, such as offshore wind farms, ADENs enable efficient long-distance power transmission through HVDC technology. This design enhances the balance of supply and demand across regions and countries, significantly improving grid stability and resilience. However, the implementation of ADENs presents substantial technical, regulatory, and cybersecurity challenges. Integrated Framework of Multisource Data Fusion for Outage Location in Looped Distribution systems

Accurate outage location is essential for expediting post-outage power restoration, minimizing outage duration, and enhancing the resilience of distribution networks. With the advent of advanced metering infrastructure, data-driven outage location methods have significantly advanced beyond traditional approaches that rely on manual inspections. However, existing methods still face critical challenges, like reliance on single-source data, limited ability to handle partially observable systems or difficulties with loop networks. To the best of our knowledge, no single approach has comprehensively addressed all of these challenges at once. To this end, this paper proposes a comprehensive multisource data fusion framework for outage locations via probabilistic graph networks. The framework consists of three key phases. First, a novel method for reconstituting distribution networks with loops is developed, transforming looped networks into multiple radial subnetworks that retain all outage causalities of the original network. Second, Bayesian network (BN) models are established for each subnetwork, integrating multiple data sources and network structures. Finally, a joint Gibbs sampling mechanism, featuring forward and backward information flow, is designed to merge data from separate BN models and maximize the utilization of limited evidence, ensuring accurate outage location identification. The framework was validated on two modified public test systems, and comparative studies confirmed its effectiveness. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

Image-to-image translation has become a prominent trend in the field of computer vision. This innovative technique is widely employed for generating concealed facial features from given noise. It proves particularly useful in reconstructing obscured facial regions covered by masks. The underlying technology at the core of this method is the Generative Adversarial Network (GAN). The primary mechanism of GAN-based neural networks relies on an encoder-decoder structure combined with a discriminator network. The discriminator plays a crucial role in training the network to distinguish between authentic and generated images. FUGAN, a novel approach in this domain, incorporates a self-attention block and has demonstrated superior performance to other models. With an impressive SSIM and BRISQUE score of 0.928 and 27.990, respectively, FUGAN is at the forefront of achieving state-of-the-art results. The architecture of the FUGAN neural network is built upon the UNET framework, with modifications to enhance its effectiveness. These modifications involve increasing the network depth and incorporating batch instance normalization as a regularizer to achieve the desired outcomes. The resulting model attains a smaller size and exhibits high accuracy in image regeneration. This streamlined and efficient FUGAN model is well-suited for deploying low-resource Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Its capability to regenerate facial features from masked regions makes it instrumental in surveillance systems, detecting individuals wearing masks and reconstructing their facial details. Motor skills (related to the motor nerve) and neurocognitive disorders affect humans’ typing ability to an extent that is noticeable while using a keyboard, smartphone, or other electronic gadgets. These two medical conditions are Parkinson’s disease (PD), caused by malfunctions of the motor nerve, and neurocognitive disorder, caused by a deficiency of organismic responses to stimuli. A mild symptom of PD, change in fine motor skills during typing, is reflected heavily in keystroke patterns during the early stages. Similarly, Emotional stress (ES) expresses a neurocognitive disorder that affects cognitive abilities as well. Early symptoms of this disorder are reflected in the keystroke patterns according to their severity. As there is no such pathological examination, it is challenging to perceive and measure the development of such disorders already developed in human behaviour as a disease. Furthermore, early screening of these diseases is essential for future diagnosis and preventing fatal consequences, since both are progressive illnesses. A modest attempt is made here to detect two such neurodegenerative disorders in humans using the way they type, formally known as Keystroke dynamics (KD). In this study, a bootstrapped-based homogeneous ensemble classification method has been proposed to address the uncertain performance and uneven distribution of classes for the detection of such medical conditions using users’ typing tendencies. For this purpose, two recent benchmark datasets were used for the validation and confirmation of operational improvements of the proposed method, which have been validated qualitatively and quantitatively. As a result, sensitivity/specificity of 0.82/0.78 in detecting PD and 0.98/0.98 in ES have been achieved, which is robust and accurate in a more realistic evaluation.
