Virtual memory, with the support of address translation hardware, is a key technique in expanding programmability and memory management in GPUs. However, the nature of the GPU execution model heavily pressures its translation hardware, particularly due to a discrepancy in the behavior of page table walkers and thousands of concurrently running threads. In GPU workloads, multiple threads simultaneously access a number of pages necessitating a substantial number of translations whereas each walker handles only a single walk request at a time. Such a limitation significantly increases the queueing latency of walk requests, which we observe as a major bottleneck for servicing page table walks in GPUs. To tackle this challenge, we investigate a design of page walkers that facilitates multiple walk requests to be handled together in batches. Then, we make the following observations: 1) allowing a page walker to issue beyond a single memory request significantly improves the throughput of walkers, and 2) GPU applications tend to concurrently access pages in wide address ranges. By leveraging the above implications, we propose Marching Page Walks (MPW) that effectively mitigate the contention in GPU page table walkers. MPW scans pending walk requests to identify ones that can be grouped together. Then, MPW batches these requests and concurrently handles them by issuing multiple memory instructions. Experiments show that MPW reduces the queueing latency of page walks by 86.7% and improves GPU performance by 55.6% over the baseline design. © 2025 IEEE.

In this study, we propose ferroelectric-based reconfigurable field-effect transistors (FeRFETs) that utilizes the structure of a fully depleted silicon-on-insulator field-effect transistors (FDSOI FETs). In FeRFETs, the non-volatile and reconfigurable electrostatic doping facilitated by ferroelectric enables type conversion. Through the TCAD simulations calibrated with the experimental data, we confirm a reconfigurable high doping level (> 1×1021 cm-3), a clear type conversion and highly tunable performance in FeRFETs. It is also found that carefully tailoring coercive field (EC) is important to maximize the performance of FeRFETs. © 2002-2012 IEEE.

Large Language Models (LLM) is a type of artificial neural network that excels at language-related tasks. The advantages and disadvantages of using LLM in software engineering are still being debated, but it is a tool that can be utilized in software engineering. This study aimed to analyze LLM studies in software engineering using bibliometric and content analysis. The study data were retrieved from Web of Science and Scopus. The data were analyzed using two popular bibliometric approaches: bibliometric and content analysis. VOS Viewer and Bibliometrix software were used to conduct the bibliometric analysis. The bibliometric analysis was performed using science mapping and performance analysis approaches. Various bibliometric data, including the most frequently referenced publications, journals, and nations, were evaluated and presented. Then, the synthetic knowledge method was utilized for content analysis. This study examined 235 papers, with 836 authors contributing. The publications were published in 123 different journals. The average number of citations per publication is 1.44. Most publications were published in Proceedings International Conference on Software engineering and ACM International Conference Proceeding Series, with China and the United States emerging as the leading countries. It was discovered that international collaboration on the issue was inadequate. The most often used keywords in the publications were "software design," "code (symbols)," and "code generation." Following the content analysis, three themes emerged: 1) Integration of LLM into software engineering education, 2) application of LLM in software engineering, and 3) potential and limitation of LLM in software engineering. In this study, we aim to enhance the efficiency of p-type tunnel oxide passivated contact (p-TOPCon) solar cells by improving charge carrier extraction while achieving higher fill factor (FF) and open circuit voltage (Voc). We explore various potential methods for the photovoltaic industrial procedure, including optimizing metallization patterns and techniques, such as the utilization of a high efficiency grid pattern (HEGP) in place of the conventional straight finger-line pattern (SFLP). Co-firing conditions, peak firing temperature, and belt speed are investigated for their impact on FF enhancement, along with evaluating the effects of single and double print processes. Furthermore, we examine the efficacy of Nafion treatment as a surface modification technique to enhance FF. Experimental results indicate that optimizing co-firing conditions and employing Nafion treatment significantly increased FF to approximately 83.26% in p-TOPCon solar cells. Adjusting peak firing temperature and belt speed, as well as implementing the double print process, demonstrate superior FF enhancement compared to the single print process. Additionally, Nafion treatment contributes to FF improvement by passivating surface defects and enhancing charge carrier collection. Overall, this study provides valuable insights into optimizing co-firing conditions and surface treatment techniques to enhance p-TOPCon solar cell efficiency (Eff) up to 23.50%, thus advancing high-efficiency photovoltaic technology. © 2024 The Korean Society of Industrial and engineering Chemistry

This study evaluates green space suitability in İzmir’s Konak district using the analytic hierarchy process, machine learning, weighted linear combination, and the technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution methods, integrated with geographic information systems. The approach enhances reliability in green space identification by ensuring consistent integration of weights determined by different methods. Machine learning enables dynamic adjustments to criterion weights, yielding the best results with the random forest algorithm. The analysis revealed that 75% of green spaces were sub-optimally located, with optimal zones in the western and northern regions. The technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution methodology prioritized area ZGS_6 as the most suitable area, while ZGS_4 ranked lowest. This method supports efficient resource allocation and improves budgeting processes. Hence, the integration of multi-criteria decision-making and machine learning with geographic information systems enhances the planning of sustainable cities and offers critical insights to decision-makers who prioritize sustainability and livability. © The Author(s) 2025.

Enhancing IoT Resilience: Machine Learning Techniques for Autonomous Anomaly Detection and Threat Mitigation

The explosive growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) has had a substantial impact on daily life and businesses, allowing for real-time monitoring and decision-making. However, increased connectivity also brings higher security risks, such as botnet attacks and the need for stronger user authentication. This research explores how machine learning can enhance Internet of Things security by identifying abnormal activity, utilizing behavioral biometrics to secure cloud-based dashboards, and detecting botnet threats early. Researchers tested numerous machine learning methods, including K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Decision Trees, Logistic Regression, and XGBoost on publicly available datasets. The Decision Tree model earned an impressive accuracy rate of 0.73 for anomaly identification, proving its supremacy in dealing with complex security risks, while the XGBoost model demonstrated strong performance with a 92% accuracy rate for detecting TCP SYN flood attacks. Research findings show the effectiveness of these strategies in enhancing the security and reliability of IoT devices. This study provides significant insights into the use of machine learning to protect IoT devices while also addressing crucial concerns such as power consumption and privacy.

The GPU has been successfully used for diverse emerging compute-intensive applications, including imaging, computer vision, and more recently, deep learning, to name a few. To offer high performance for such applications, it is provisioned with massive Register Files (RFs) to exploit high Thread-Level Parallelism (TLP). As RFs are designed to store thousands of contexts and provide very high bandwidth for uninterrupted supply of operands to hundreds of compute units for high TLP, they have become one of the most power-hungry components in the GPU. Meanwhile, faced with the end of Dennard scaling, it is more important than ever to innovate the microarchitecture of (power-constrained) GPUs to continuously improve the performance of future compute-intensive *** this work, we propose a GPU microarchitecture, WarpedCompaction, designed to utilize given RFs more efficiently, instead of relying on larger-capacity and/or higher-bandwidth RFs to further improve GPU performance. Specifically, first, we reverse-engineer the latest GPU's RF organization through microbenchmarking. This uncovers that each sub-core within a streaming multiprocessor contains only two dual-ported RF banks, and accesses to these banks are arbitrated solely based on register IDs. We also reveal that, despite the modest configurations, RF banks are largely underutilized, staying inactive for 33.5% of the time. Second, we observe that previously proposed RF optimization techniques, data forwarding and dead register elimination, cannot address this underutilization problem. This is mainly due to the (R1) insufficient RF access requests from a limited number of Operand Collector Units (OCUs) and (R2) inefficient operand distribution by the conventional RF bank arbitration. Smartphone sensors play a pivotal role in delineating user behaviour, particularly in the context of keystroke dynamics-based implicit and active/continuous authentication, as well as liveness detection. The acquisition of multifaceted sensory data during typing serves as a fundamental source of behavioural attributes, yet the field faces several intricate challenges requiring careful consideration to recalibrate the delicate balance between security and usability. Notable challenges encompass the capricious nature of anomaly detectors when confronted with unavoidable influencing factors, the substantial battery drainage associated with prolonged sensor operation, the computational inefficiency intrinsic to smartphones, and the imperative need for usability control in frequently switching applications and balancing security in both device and application levels, especially in scenarios with varying security requirements. This study endeavours to mitigate these challenges through the implementation of cutting-edge anomaly detection techniques, incorporating four distinct schemes—namely, column medians template formation, synthetic samples, soft biometrics and score-level fusion. The study further leverages advanced sensory patterns, including gyroscope, accelerometer and rotational information, captured during abbreviated typing intervals at a low sampling rate to mitigate battery consumption. In the pursuit of enhanced usability control, a Watchman score is assigned to each running application, dictating security adjustments based on genuineness evaluations of micro-behaviours within predefined temporal windows. A novel rule-based mechanism is introduced to govern device and application security within a continuous authentication mode. This empirical investigation, supported by robust statistical evidence, aspires to yield more precise, energy-efficient, and user-friendly implicit and active user identity verification mechanisms.
