To a great extent, electric machine (EM) lifetime is affected by electrical failures that compromise the integrity of the windings electrical insulation system (EIS). During EMs operation, the EIS suffered various stresses, such as, thermal, electrical, mechanical and ambient (TEAM), which lead the deterioration and decrease the dielectric property of EIS. However, under rated operating conditions, the entire degradation process can take several years before insulation breakdown occurs. Thus, accelerated lifetime tests (ALT) are conventionally performed on various high stress level. Furthermore, the suitable specimen topology should be chosen according to the ALT task objectives, which is also crucial to the resulted lifetime values. In this paper, ALTs at variable temperature profile are performed using two types of specimens (i.e., coils and motorettes). Then, the collected lifetime data are analyzed by statistical tools and the underlying stress mechanism is discussed. Finally, the thermal-mechanical stress is pointed out as the primary factor contributing to lifetime prediction mismatch. © 2024 IEEE.

As the largest class of small non-coding RNAs, piRNAs primarily present in the reproductive cells of mammals, which influence post-transcriptional processes of mRNAs in multiple ways. Effective methods for predicting piRNA and mRNA target relationships can help identify piRNA functions, investigate the possibility of piRNAs as biomarkers and therapeutic targets. In this study, we propose a computational approach for classifying the relationships of piRNA-mRNA pairs based on an interactive inference network (IIN). First, we gather piRNA-mRNA target data, collect sequence data by position alignment, and construct a benchmark dataset. Furthermore, a reliable negative set is constructed by positive-unlabeled learning. Finally, we view a piRNA and a mRNA sequence as a premise and hypothesis sentence, respectively, and IIN model is used to predict the relationship between them. The experiments demonstrate that our method effectively characterizes piRNA-mRNA interaction and could be beneficial for researchers to investigate piRNA functions. © 2023 IEEE.

The integrated calibration method of micro-nano satellite attitude benchmark is studied. Considering the magnetic effects and residual magnetism caused by the complex magnetic environment of the satellite, an accurate measurement model for magnetometers was adopted. By using the relationship between the measured and theoretical values of the geomagnetic field, the residual magnetism and magnetic sensitivity coefficients in the magnetometer measurement model were calibrated, through the least square method of uncertain parameters of the calibration. After modeling the installation error of the solar sensor, the calibration of the solar sensor is completed, so as to realize the integrated calibration of the attitude benchmark of the micro-nano satellite. Finally, this article conducted ground experiments using telemetry data from an in orbit satellite. The experimental results showed that the proposed method reduced sensor measurement errors, improved sensor benchmark consistency, and improved attitude determination accuracy from around 10 degrees to better than 0.2 degrees, verifying the effectiveness of the proposed method.

For the rotating armature permanent magnet motor (RAPMM), the rotor slot move relating to the stator, which causes the variation of electromagnetic excitation force and the slot-frequency vibration. In order to reduce the slot-frequency vibration of RAPMM, a slotless rotating armature permanent magnet motor (SRAPMM) is proposed and prototyped. The magnetic field, torque, and torque ripple are simulated by finite element method, which shows that the air gap flux density and the radial force keep nearly constant. Vibration experiments were carried out on two SRAPMMs with different magnetic pole widths. The results show that when the motor is no-loaded, the frequency of the main vibration is even times of the current frequency. After the motor is loaded, the amplitude of the electromagnetic vibration is significantly smaller than that caused by mechanical reasons, indicating that the SRAPMM is a good alternative in the application of strict requirements for vibration. © 2022 IEEE.

Cascading Failure Screening Based on Gradient Boosting Decision Tree for HVDC Sending-End systems with High Wind Power Penetration

In LCC-HVDC sending-end AC systems, cascading failures combined with the dynamic response of wind turbines (WTs) can lead to HVDC commutation failures. The resulting transient voltage disturbances cause WT tripping in sending-end systems. Cascading failures that involve the interaction between WTs and HVDC significantly limit the wind power transmitted by HVDC systems. This paper proposes an online cascading failure screening method based on gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT) for HVDC sending-end systems with large-scale WTs. First, a confidence level-based WT tripping model is proposed for cascading failure risk assessment considering a typical cascading failure propagation pattern. Then, Monte Carlo tree search is improved using a contrastive pruning technique to generate evenly distributed samples of cascading failures offline. Dynamic insecure scenarios are quickly identified using an improved support vector machine. Finally, GBDT is utilized to screen for cascading failures online by predicting subsequent high-risk failures using operating features. A dynamic weighting technique is proposed for GBDT to improve the fault prediction accuracy. Simulation results of a modified New England test system and the Ningxia provincial power grid in western China demonstrate that the proposed method can quickly screen for cascading failures considering the dynamic interaction between WTs and HVDC. © 1969-2012 IEEE.

This article proposes a novel Peeling of Nano-Particle (PNP) process to locally remove material on a hard material surface using controllable magnetic fields. Fe3O4 particles in the size range of 50-100 nm in aqueous solution (pH value 11 adjusted by KOH) were magnetically controlled to adhere and remove from a 4H-SiC surface by two electromagnetic coils, which were sandwiched between the substrate. The particle controlling phenomenon on the surface was experimentally observed and verified by our developed apparatus applying an evanescent field. According to the results, particles could be controlled to approach and remove from the substrate surface with 12mT of magnetic field at the selective area on the substrate surface to realise the proposed PNP process. © European Society for Precision engineering and Nanotechnology, Conference Proceedings - 22nd International Conference and Exhibition, EUSPEN 2022. The interoperability of heterogeneous networks, including hybrid industrial wired/wireless protocols, is a vital aspect of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) since various industrial protocols have coexisted. Therefore, it is hard to obtain a multiple protocol conversion solution with the flexible configuration. Moreover, the previous works do not adapt to the Time Sensitive Networking (TSN), which is considered as the potential technology of IIoT. To tackle the above problems, we proposed an architecture of the multiple conversion system supporting the conversion of multiple protocols. Then, we proposed a protocol conversion mechanism to improve the flexibility of multiple protocol conversion by separating into data and configuration planes. Moreover, we propose a TSN-compatible frame with dynamic priority mapping algorithm, which adjusts the priority in the VLAN tag by the processing delay. Finally, we develop a hardware module and system supporting multiple protocol conversion, which verify that the proposed architecture could satisfy the flexible conversion requirement through the experiments. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper provides a review of popular fault diagnosis methods in the power subsystem and electrical machine of electric drives. The review aims to explore the different approaches used to detect faults in these components and the most common types of faults encountered in electric drives. The paper first provides an overview of the power subsystem and electrical machine and their respective functions within the electric drive system. It then proceeds to discuss the different types of faults that can occur in these components, including overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, and short circuits. The review evaluates the various fault diagnosis methods available for these components, including model-based, signal-based, and artificial intelligence-based approaches. Model-based approaches use mathematical models of the system to detect and diagnose faults. Signal-based approaches rely on the analysis of measured signals to detect changes in system behavior that indicate a fault. Artificial intelligence-based approaches use machine learning algorithms to identify patterns in data and detect faults. Model-based approaches are highly accurate but can be computationally intensive. Signal-based approaches are less computationally intensive but may be less accurate in certain situations. Artificial intelligence-based approaches are versatile but require significant amounts of data for training. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the current state-of-the-art in fault diagnosis methods for the power subsystem and electrical machine of electric drives. The review concludes by suggesting potential areas for future research to further improve the accuracy and efficiency of fault diagnosis methods for electric drives. © 2023 IEEE.
