New improved model for joint segmentation and registration of multi-modality images: application to medical images

Joint segmentation and registration of images is a focused area of research nowadays. Jointly segmenting and registering noisy images and images having weak boundaries/intensity inhomogeneity is a challenging task. In medical image processing, joint segmentation and registration are essential methods that aid in distinguishing structures and aligning images for precise diagnosis and therapy. However, these methods encounter challenges, such as computational complexity and sensitivity to variations in image quality, which may reduce their effectiveness in real-world applications. Another major issue is still attaining effective joint segmentation and registration in the presence of artifacts or anatomical deformations. In this paper, a new nonparametric joint model is proposed for the segmentation and registration of multi-modality images having weak boundaries/noise. For segmentation purposes, the model will be utilizing local binary fitting data term and for registration, it is utilizing conditional mutual information. For regularization of the model, we are using linear curvature. The new proposed model is more efficient to segmenting and registering multi-modality images having intensity inhomogeneity, noise and/or weak boundaries. The proposed model is also tested on the images obtained from the freely available CHOAS dataset and compare the results of the proposed model with the other existing models using statistical measures such as the Jaccard similarity index, relative reduction, Dice similarity coefficient and Hausdorff distance. It can be seen that the proposed model outperforms the other existing models in terms of quantitatively and qualitatively. © 2024 - IOS Press. All rights reserved.

We consider a quadratic minimization problem with both fixed endpoints and its associated maximization problem from a viewpoint of complementarity. We show that a complementary identity with an elementary inequality generates a pair of (n-1)-variable minimization problem (primal) and (n + 1)-variable maximization one (dual). The identity produces an equality condition, which is a linear system of 2n-equation on 2n-variable. The condition splits into a pair of linear systems of (n-1)-equation on (n - 1)-variable and of (n + 1)-equation on (n + 1)-variable. The former solves the primal, while the latter does the dual. Both the optimal solutions are characterized by the Fibonacci sequence. The solutions are also given through dynamic programming. © 2024, Kyushu Institute of technology. All rights reserved.

The tribological properties and scratch resistance of MoS_(2)bilayer deposited on SiO_(2)/Si substrates prepared via chemical vapor deposition are *** force microscopy(FFM)is employed to investigate the friction and wear properties of the MoS_(2)bilayer at the nanoscale by applying a normal load ranging from 200 to 1,000 *** resistance is measured using the scratch mode in FFM based on a linearly increasing load from 100 to 1,000 *** probe force microscopy(KPFM)is performed to locally measure the surface potential in the tested surface to qualitatively measure the wear/removal of Mos,layers and identify critical loads associated with the individual failures of the top and bottom *** analysis of the contact potential difference values as well as that of KPFM,friction,and height images show that the wear/removal of the top and bottom layers in the MoS_(2)bilayer system occurred *** FFM and KPFM results show that the top MoS_(2)layer begins to degrade at the end of the low friction stage,followed by the bottom layer,thereby resulting in a transitional friction stage owing to the direct contact between the diamond tip and SiO_(2)*** the stable third stage,the transfer of lubricious MoS_(2)debris to the tip apex results in contact between the MoS_(2)-transferred tip and SiO_(2).Nanoscratch test results show two ranges of critical loads,which correspond to the sequential removal of the top and bottom layers.

The design of wireless mobile devices of the next generation 5G promises to address the demands of complex IOT designs in terms of connectivity technologies. A new era of communication has begun with the introduction of 5G technology, which promises unheard of velocity, low latency, and enormous capacity. The significant effects of 5G on the operation and efficiency of connected Internet of Things (IoT) gadgets are examined in this research. IoT devices stand to gain from improved communication capabilities as 5G networks proliferate, opening the door for creative applications in a variety of industries. The first section of the article gives a summary of the main characteristics of 5G technology, highlighting how it has the potential to completely change how Internet of Things devices interact and communicate. Real-time data transfer is made possible by 5G networks far lower latency and higher capacity, which open up possibilities for faster and smooth interactions between IoT *** report also explores how 5G may affect how much electricity Internet of Things devices use. 5G has the ability to solve a long-standing issue in the IoT ecosystem by extending the life of the batteries of IoT devices with the adoption of cost-effective communication protocols and increased network efficiency. Abnormal event detection in video surveillance is critical for security, traffic management, and industrial monitoring applications. This paper introduces an innovative methodology for anomaly detection in video data, encompassing three primary stages: preprocessing, feature learning, and anomaly detection. We employ background subtraction and noise reduction during preprocessing to refine the data. The feature-learning stage involves training an LSTM autoencoder to capture the essential features of normal video sequences. For anomaly detection, we map video data to a lower-dimensional space (latent code) and compare it against the distribution of codes from normal sequences. We determine regularity scores and identify local minima points exceeding a specified threshold while scrutinizing shadows between adjacent maxima to confirm and pinpoint anomalies. When tested on the CUHK Avenue and UMN datasets, our methodology demonstrated performance with AUCs of 93.8% and 94.1%, respectively, outperforming several baseline models. Our results show the high precision of our method that can detect anomalies, highlighting its potential advantages that it can achieve for enhancing systems of surveillance. © The Author(s) 2025.

The quality of concrete is significantly influenced by the temperature environment before and after casting, requiring temperature-based countermeasures. The guidelines indicate the countermeasure-needed periods for cold and hot weather concreting but are limited to selected reference locations, not always matching individual construction sites. This paper introduces detailed maps created using data from the Mesh Climatological Normals 2020 to depict the countermeasure-needed period of each concreting. The system, which integrated these maps with an internet-based mapping, application was developed to enable rational decisions of the countermeasures-needed periods at individual construction sites from the construction planning stage. © 2024 Architectural Institute of Japan. Excessive chatter during the machining process reduces productivity and increases manufacturing costs. This disruption slows material removal, thereby decreasing operational efficiency and output. To increase the efficiency in cutting operations, dynamic stability, active structural control methods are the best way to get effective results. In the present paper integrated spindle tool systems are modelled using finite element methods by using the Timoshenko beam theory with shear and rotational deformation effects. To achieve the maximized average stable depth of cut for an end milling process while simultaneously minimizing chatter vibration levels, both semi-active and active control strategies have been investigated. Machining experiments performed on Al6061-alloy specimens and provide an empirical confirmation of the stability boundaries. Vibration levels and optical microscope images are considered, to identify chatter marks under various machining conditions, which helps to assure cutting process stability. A proportional derivative controller method is applied at the interface of the spindle tool to control the cutting forces at different cutting conditions. Stability lobe diagrams are plotted with these derived conditions and observed at an incremental level in the axial depths of cutting. The methodology presented in this paper improves the stability in machining of alloy materials with the reduction in the tool tip vibrations. © The Institution of Engineers (India) 2024.
