In the design of bodily engaging Mixed Reality (MR) installations for intangible cultural heritage (ICH) in museums, a gap remains regarding how to test low-fidelity prototypes to refine the detailed design and ensure successful final implementation. By integrating bodystorming early in the design thinking process, alongside lab-based experience prototyping, this study proposes a method to foster a deeper empathetic connection between cultural practitioners and the public, thereby enhancing visitor experiences. Focusing on the ICH of wooden shipbuilding, the process involves stakeholders and users from conceptualization to prototype testing, ensuring that final interactive installations are user-centered and culturally resonant. The findings demonstrate how this participatory design approach bridges digital technologies with traditional cultural practices, providing methodological insights for the transmission of ICH and visitor engagement that other designers can adopt. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

In the current situation, environmental monitoring and disaster mitigation become a concern. There are many developed robot in different type for enviromental issue, but some robot has limitation on coverage area. To solve that problem, several researcher also developed FWAV that has potential on environment monitoring application. This study aims to enhance the potential of Flapping Wing Aerial Vehicles (FWAVs) for wider implementation in these fields. While most FWAVs traditionally use a single actuator, leading to manufacturing and design complexity, recent trends show a shift towards servo-driven mechanisms due to their enhanced capabilities. We achieve modularity through a design that allows for easy assembly and disassembly of main wings, tail, and hardware components. Performance enhancements are realized through the implementation of a square wave pattern as the input signal for flapping motion, which outperforms the common sinusoidal wave pattern as input signal. By adjusting the center of gravity and flapping parameters, we demonstrate the FWAV's potential to carry payloads of up to 100 grams which is almost 28% of its weight, suitable for small-scale environmental monitoring missions. Additionally, we implement a collision avoidance system to enhance the FWAV's ability to navigate safely in complex environments. © 2025 IEEE.

The European Green Deal is one of the key milestones in achieving the European Commission's sustainability goals. A key objective is to reduce the use of resources in order to reduce global emissions. Early validation of products is one way to reduce the need for late rework or modification of equipment, which in turn reduces the use of resources. It also has the benefit of reducing costs and the time-to-market, as late product changes require more resources and time. This is especially challenging for complex systems, where interconnects are often difficult to identify. For this reason, many companies use systems engineering as a design method to collaborate on products across departments and disciplines. Early validation and systems engineering are usually used separately, but research shows that the combination can provide an advantage in development, so a basis for linking them and further research needs to be identified. In this paper, a systematic literature review was conducted to identify approaches for early validation and systems engineering. It also examined the suitability of using these approaches in combination for product development and design of intelligent systems. This resulted in 49 potential methods being identified and evaluated according to requirements of the industry. They are discussed based on a concrete example in special purpose machinery in the production context of complex intelligent systems. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Autonomous urban passenger ferries have the potential to enhance urban mobility. However, despite advances in recent years, operating autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs) in urban waterways remain challenging, not least because transporting passengers raises safety standards to the fore. This paper presents the autonomous urban passenger ferry "milliAmpere2,"developed by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim, Norway. design features and test results are presented, covering the investigation of five research questions related to human-centered design, batteries and propulsion, autonomous navigation and control, remote monitoring and control, and risk assessment. A three-week public trial of the "milliAmpere2,"held in 2022, helped to synthesize research outcomes in the context of its operational environment in a confined and well-trafficked urban waterway. The "milliAmpere2"project adds to a growing number of use cases demonstrating the viability of ASVs for passenger transportation. Outstanding challenges for future research are identified, including human-autonomy teaming, remote management of fleet operation, and interactions with passengers, traffic, and remote operators. © 2025 by ASME.

The present study investigates the role of digitalization in the growth and success of startups. Using a keyword-based literature analysis methodology, this research identifies and classifies concepts through the use of the dimensions of persistence and frequency. The main concepts located in the first quadrant include Industry 4.0 technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and digital platforms, which are crucial for the growth and competitiveness of startups. Trendy concepts in the fourth quadrant highlight the impact of COVID-19 on digital startups, emphasizing their adaptability and resilience. Intermittent concepts in the second quadrant address the discontinuous but relevant use of digital technologies, while emerging concepts in the third quadrant focus on strategic data management and innovation. The results of the study offer a comprehensive view of the role of digital technologies in shaping the business models of startups, providing valuable insights for entrepreneurs, policymakers, and researchers to foster the digital startup ecosystem. © 2024 The Authors. This study examines the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in supply chain management (SCM) through a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of literature sourced from the Scopus database, renowned for its extensive and reliable scientific publications. We focused on documents within the fields of Business, Management, and Accounting, restricting our search to English-language publications to minimize translation errors. Using the keywords "supply chain management"and "artificial intelligence,"we identified 395 relevant documents. VOSviewer software facilitated our bibliometric analysis, enabling the creation of co-occurrence networks and visualization of research trends. Our analysis determined publication trends, influential authors, and key research clusters, including IoT, AI in Industry 4.0, supply chain efficiency, and digital transformation for sustainability. The findings underscore AI's transformative impact on SCM, offering valuable insights for future research and practice. © 2024 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

This paper presents the extension of the Trajectory Control System, originally developed for full-envelope flight control, to encompass Conventional Takeoff and Landing and Short Takeoff and Landing capabilities. The Trajectory Control System incorporates the best aspects of the Total Energy Control System, originally developed for conventional fixed-wing aircraft, and extends them to vertical takeoff and landing vehicles. This enhancement aims to improve operational versatility and safety in various mission profiles for vertical takeoff and landing vehicles. Utilizing the Modular Aircraft Dynamics and Control Algorithm Simulation Platform, comprehensive simulations were conducted to evaluate the performance of the augmented Trajectory Control System to conventional and short takeoff and landing operations. Simulations were performed to demonstrate the control system's ability to adapt to takeoff and landing requirements on a vectored thrust vehicle configuration. Future work will focus on flight testing and further refinement of the proposed control algorithms to validate the simulation outcomes and ensure real-world applicability. © 2025, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA. Hybrid-electric propulsion systems are relatively common in conceptual designs, but have yet to make it into full scale production aircraft. An important step for adapting this propulsion architecture into full scale aircraft is sub scale flight testing. In this work, a subscale hybrid-electric lift-plus-cruise aircraft is sized using the Parametric Energy-based Aircraft Configuration Evaluator sizing framework. The resulting hybrid-electric power system will then be validated through characterization of representative hardware. A power management system model was developed and simulated. Following simulation, the power management control system was tested on representative hardware to validate the proposed design for use in future flight testing applications. © 2024 Lockheed Martin Corporation. Whenacasualty is sustained in combat it is both a tactical necessity and moral imperative to exhaust all resources to back-haul the wounded service member from their point of injury to a higher surgical care facility with the specified purpose of saving their life;a mission architecture known as Medical Evacuation Operations (MEDEVAC). Presently, the MEDEVAC system relies on the ground unit to stabilize a casualty, move them to a secured pick-up site, and successfully communicate to command the casualty’s status, location, and requirement for an evacuation. Subsequently, Command must assess the levels of multi-domain contestation in the battle space against acceptable levels of risk before committing a large, loud, piloted craft with an onboard medical provider to the casualty’s location. Executing MEDEVAC in a Large Scale Combat Operations (LSCO) environment will require a paradigm shift in communicating, evacuating, and caring for casualties. This paper examines the development of a Discrete Event Simulation (DES) to show the capability spectrum of MEDEVAC unmanned aerial vehicles in LSCO. These vehicles, named the Versatile Autonomous Lifesaver in a Combat Rescue Environment (VALCRE), represent potential future capabilities and have adjustable characteristics. Our technical approach was to architect a lifesaving environment, abstract casualty health monitoring and autonomous onboard medical care, introduce stochasticity into the present MEDEVAC mission architecture to contest all domains in the battle space, and measure the performance of VALCRE concepts in LSCO to inform future vehicle requirements. © 2025, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Inc, AIAA.
