There has a been a growing interest in virtual laboratories as a supplement to hardware laboratories in supporting student learning and experience. This paper focuses specifically on virtual laboratories built using the MATLAB environment and highlights some recent developments. Specifically, these virtual laboratories aim to give users an overview of the core content of an entire 1st course in control in a single virtual laboratory interface. This paper highlights two such laboratories and shows how they can be used to supplement other learning resources and activities.

A non-iterative approach to Linear Quadratic Static Output Feedback

This paper considers the problem of static output feedback (SOF) synthesis for linear time-invariant (LTI) systems. Static output feedback, and more generally structured controller synthesis, is of special interest to any industrial application where a reduced-order controller is desired, e.g., high-order systems, or a specific structure is to be imposed, i.e., distributed/decentralised control. A simple two-step process is proposed, solving one Riccati equation and one optimisation problem with linear matrix inequality (LMI) constraints, enabled via a dilation using the distance to the full-state feedback optimum gain. Numerical analysis shows considerable computational savings, with negligible differences in the performance, when compared to current iterative methods.

The Common Spatial Patterns (CSP) algorithm has shown great efficacy in extracting features for Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs), particularly in motor imagery BCIs. However, CSP performs poorly when dealing with limited labeled data, which leads to long calibration time at the beginning of each session. To overcome this challenge, we leverage source data, i.e., labeled data from other subjects, to transfer knowledge across subjects. This work proposes a novel approach termed Scaled and Warped CSP-based Transfer Learning (SW-CSP-TL). This method aligns source data with the temporal and amplitude structure of target data before computing CSP filters, ensuring optimization for capturing discriminative features relevant to the target domain. We evaluate the proposed SW-CSP-TL algorithm using the publicly available dataset 2a from BCI Competition IV and compare its performance with that of the classical CSP algorithm and the transfer learning CSP algorithm (CSP-TL) without amplitude scaling and temporal warping. Our algorithm exhibits superior performance particularly when the training data size is relatively small. Results demonstrate that for 5 and 15 training trials per class from the target session, SW-CSP-TL outperformed the classical CSP by an average of 10%, and 8%, respectively.

By using Typhoon HIL simulator, a simulation research method of data injection attack against secondary control DC microgrid is established, which reveals the important influence of the attack function on the effectiveness and covertness of the attack. Firstly, a decentralized four-node DC microgrid system using TCP/IP Modbus protocol for communication is built in Typhoon HIL simulator, then, a microgrid security testing experimental platform based on the man-in-the-middle attack as a network attack method is built in Kali Linux system, which can carry out timed single- and multilinks data injection attacks and replay attack on the above four-node DC microgrid. The paper designs a variety of data injection attack schemes to study the impact of data injection attacks on voltage and current control in this DC microgrid, including single-link attack, multi-link composite attack, and replay attack using different attack functions. By controlling the main parameters of the attack function, the amplitude of the fluctuation of the output voltage generated by the attack can be controlled, which can produce a more covert and effective attack effect. © 2024 IEEE.

Four new modifications of discrete analog filters (DAF) of second order low frequencies (LPF) on switched capacitors, which are protected by the authors of the article as objects of intellectual property, have been developed and studied. In the considered DAF family, unlike other known circuit solutions, summation of input and output signals is provided using a differential difference operational amplifier. As a result, the low-pass filter transmission coefficient in the passband does not depend on the passive elements of the circuit and is always equal to minus one. Buffer amplifiers in two DAF circuits are necessary to reduce the influence of switching circuits on transient processes. In the Micro-Cap environment, computer simulations of four modifications of DAFs were performed, showing that the proposed DAFs have the amplitude-frequency response of a low-pass filter. Sequences of pulses are given that should control four electronic keys, made, for example, on CMOS transistors. Graphs of transient processes of the DAF are shown for an input sinusoidal signal with an amplitude of 1V and a frequency of 1591 Hz, equal to the pole frequency at a switching frequency of electronic keys of 1 MHz. The DAF transmission coefficients for the input sinusoidal signal in different frequency ranges are determined. It has been established that with the selected parameters of the elements in the considered DAFs, which are low-pass filters, the input signal at a frequency of 159.10 kHz is attenuated by more than 60 dB. © 2024 IEEE.

Fault diagnosis of rotating machinery driven by induction motors has received increasing attention. Current diagnostic methods, which can be performed on existing inverters or current transformers of three-phase induction machines, have become a more economical and reliable alternative to vibration diagnostic methods. Existing references mainly focus on the stator current analysis of single-phase, but most single-phase current analysis methods utilize only a fraction of the total information accessible in the three-phase system. Field experience shows that zero-sequence current (ZSC) has more distinctive fault characteristics compared to single-phase current, and therefore it is better to use in mechanical fault detection and diagnostic tasks. This article proposes a novel sparse learning-based method for ZSC analysis for induction rotating motor drive fault diagnosis. First, it elaborates and compares the effectiveness of ZSC in revealing fault characteristics compared with single-phase current by analyzing the fault diagnosis mechanism of ZSC. In addition, the method proposes a correlation entropy-enhanced sparse learning method for the problem of high-frequency noise and interference in the ZSC signals, so as to enhance the learning of the features of the noise-containing signals. The diagnostic efficacy of the proposed method has been verified through experiments on two real datasets. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

This Radio Frequency (RF) source location estimation scheme utilizes angles of arrival of a signal source acquired from the Multiple Signal Classification (MUSIC) algorithm. In reliance on that as a Maximum Likelihood estimation, the obtained angles are augmented to an adaptive probability distribution function (PDF), which is then employed to estimate the location of the RF emitter by feeding the PDF to an Extended Kalman Filter (EKF). Numerous use cases and theoretical works have been presented in the literature. Some of these papers mention applications regarding implementing DoA algorithms in dynamic platforms like in [9], [10], [11], [12], and [13] mostly all of them use Uniform Linear Array (ULA), four of them working with Estimation of Signal Parameters via Rotational Invariance Technique (ESPRIT), and one with MUSIC Direction of Arrival (DoA) method. In [14], MUSIC was used with a Uniform Circular Array (UCA). However, less coupling has been incorporated with the covariance of measurement error. In this paper, the dynamic 2D DoA MUSIC algorithm used in a platform, applied together with an EKF estimation and coupled with measurement covariance in a simulation environment to precisely locate an RF emitter and provide high-resolution Line-of-Sight (LOS).

The expediency of using multi-functional laboratory stands in the process of training specialists in the electromechanical profession is substantiated. The paper contains characteristics of the small-scale model of the "Teplopunkt"laboratory stand, on the basis of which it is possible to research the means of automation of heating systems with supply ventilation. The structure of the automated control and monitoring system of the "Teplopunkt"laboratory stand is given. A laboratory workshop based on a small-scale model is developed. Its implementation allows improving the effectiveness of practical training of specialists in the field of automation of thermal processes. The dynamic characteristics of the operation of the laboratory stand with the maintenance of a constant temperature of the heat-transfer agent based on the mathematical model are obtained. © 2023 IEEE.

In Ivanovo State Power engineering University (ISPEU, Ivanovo, Russia) digital instrument current and voltage transformers (DCVTs) has developed. Numerous studies and tests of DCVTs have been carried out;these devices already have operating experience in existing electrical facilities. However, some areas of application of DCVTs require additional research. The article presents a methodology for experimental study of 6(10) kV DCVTs under conditions of arc intermittent single-phase ground faults, a diagram of a test installation, as well as the results of testing the methodology. The article presents the quantitative characteristics of the modes obtained in laboratory conditions. The modes of arc intermittent single-phase ground faults and ferroresonance were simulated using electromagnetic measuring voltage transformers in the installation. However, during the experiments, some shortcomings in the methodology of the experiment were revealed. The article also indicates measures to improve the methodology for conducting further experimental studies of DCVTs. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper investigates the stabilization of underactuated vehicles moving in a three-dimensional vector *** vehicle’s model is established on the matrix Lie group SE(3),which describes the configuration of rigid bodies globally and *** focus on the kinematic model of the underactuated vehicle,which features an underactuation form that has no sway and heave *** compensate for the lack of these two velocities,we construct additional rotation matrices to generate a motion of rotation coupled with ***,the state feedback is designed with the help of the logarithmic map,and we prove that the proposed control law can exponentially stabilize the underactuated vehicle to the identity group element with an almost global domain of ***,the presented control strategy is extended to set-point stabilization in the sense that the underactuated vehicle can be stabilized to an arbitrary desired configuration specified in ***,simulation examples are provided to verify the effectiveness of the stabilization controller.
