The highly demanding operation of electrical machines in aerospace can lead to the degradation of electrical insulation systems within the machine windings over time. This paper presents a novel method for high frequency modelling of a coil from the concentrated stator winding of an 2MW aerospace generator, for the purpose of characterising the insulation system by the amplitude and phase responses by the Bode plots in the same framework as electrical impedance spectroscopy. This new approach of high frequency model utilises a finite element model, deployed in tandem with an electrical equivalent circuit representation. Matlab is used to quantify the results taken from finite element modelling and implemented into LTSpice, so that the model considers mutual coupling of inductances and high-frequency effects, such as proximity and skin effects. This novel methodology allows extraction of the impedance profile with respect to the material changes within the simulated insulation system. © 2024 IEEE.

Integrated energy system is a useful tool for achieving the"dual-carbon"goal. In order to explore the demand-side adjustable potential of the comprehensive energy system for lowering carbon emissions, this paper proposes an optimal operation model that accounts for demand response under a carbon trading mechanism. Initially, the demand response is classified into two categories based on the characteristics of the load response. Additionally, a carbon trading mechanism is built for the integrated energy system by allocating the carbon emission quotas for the system using the baseline technique, which is free of charge. The actual carbon emissions from the gas turbine and gas boiler are also taken into account. Ultimately, a low-carbon optimization operation model of the integrated energy system is established, with the goal of minimizing the total cost of energy purchase, carbon trading, and operation and maintenance. The suggested model's validity is then confirmed through four types of typical scenarios.

Nonasymptotic Regret Analysis of Adaptive Linear Quadratic control with Model Misspecification

The strategy of pre-training a large model on a diverse dataset, then fine-tuning for a particular application has yielded impressive results in computer vision, natural language processing, and robotic control. This strategy has vast potential in adaptive control, where it is necessary to rapidly adapt to changing conditions with limited data. Toward concretely understanding the benefit of pre-training for adaptive control, we study the adaptive linear quadratic control problem in the setting where the learner has prior knowledge of a collection of basis matrices for the dynamics. This basis is misspecified in the sense that it cannot perfectly represent the dynamics of the underlying data generating process. We propose an algorithm that uses this prior knowledge, and prove upper bounds on the expected regret after T interactions with the system. In the regime where T is small, the upper bounds are dominated by a term that scales with either poly(log T) or √T, depending on the prior knowledge available to the learner. When T is large, the regret is dominated by a term that grows with δT, where δ quantifies the level of misspecification. This linear term arises due to the inability to perfectly estimate the underlying dynamics using the misspecified basis, and is therefore unavoidable unless the basis matrices are also adapted online. However, it only dominates for large T, after the sublinear terms arising due to the error in estimating the weights for the basis matrices become negligible. We provide simulations that validate our analysis. Our simulations also show that offline data from a collection of related systems can be used as part of a pre-training stage to estimate a misspecified dynamics basis, which is in turn used by our adaptive controller. © 2023, CC BY.

Predictive functional control (PFC) is a straightforward and cheap model-based technique for systematic control of well-damped open-loop processes. Nevertheless, its oversimplified design characteristics are often the cause of diminished efficacy in more challenging applications;processes involving lightly damped and/or unstable dynamics have been particularly difficult to control with PFC. This paper presents a more sustainable solution for such applications by integrating the concept of prestabilization within the predictive functional control formulation. This is essentially a two-stage synthesis wherein the undesirable open-loop dynamics are first compensated, using a well-understood classical approach such as proportional integral derivative (PID), before implementing predictive control in a cascade structure. The proposal, although comes with significant implications for tuning and constraint handling, is, nonetheless, straightforward and provides improved closed-loop control in the presence of external perturbations compared to the standard PFC and the PID algorithms, as demonstrated with two industrial case studies. © 2022 The Authors. A CBjT high-speed operational amplifier (op-amp) has been developed and studied, which differs from known in its modified input stage (IS), as well as the architecture of the intermediate “folded” cascode (FC). The proposed circuits IS and FC circuits solve the problem of increasing the maximum slew rate of the output voltage (SR) in large-signal mode by more than 10 times. In the LTspice environment, computer simulation of an op-amp on complementary bipolar transistors was performed, which shows that the use of the developed transient correction circuits makes it possible to increase SR from 103 V/μs to 1408 V/μs. The logarithmic amplitude-frequency characteristics of the op-amp under study are given for different options for its inclusion - with and without general negative feedback. The leading and trailing edges of the op-amp transient process were studied with an input rectangular pulse signal with an amplitude of 5V at different values of the capacitance of the additional correction capacitor $C_{\mathbf{k1}}$. The simulation results are presented in the form of a table that establishes the relationship between the numerical values of the maximum rate of rise of the output voltage of the op-amp and the capacitance $C_{\mathbf{k1}}$. The considered op-amp is recommended for use in various automation devices and communication systems, for example, discrete-analog filters on switched capacitors, high-speed ADC drivers, etc.

In this paper, we consider nonconvex optimization problems with nonlinear equality constraints. We assume that the objective function and the functional constraints are locally smooth. To solve this problem, we introduce a linearized q penalty based method, where q ∈ (1, 2] is the parameter defining the norm used in the construction of the penalty function. Our method involves linearizing the objective function and functional constraints in a Gauss-Newton fashion at the current iteration in the penalty formulation and introduces a quadratic regularization. This approach yields an easily solvable subproblem, whose solution becomes the next iterate. By using a novel dynamic rule for the choice of the regularization parameter, we establish that the iterates of our method converge to an ǫ-first-order solution in O(1/ǫ2+(q−1)/q) outer iterations. Finally, we put theory into practice and evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm by making numerical comparisons with existing methods from literature. © 2025, CC BY.

A method for diagnosing unsteady modes of electrohydraulic complex electromechanical systems based on monitoring of energy processes as part of the variable-frequency electric drive of the pump has been developed. It is based on the analysis of instantaneous power derivatives and its amplitude-frequency characteristics at all elements of the energy channel. Diagnostic signs of the identification of emergency modes have been determined and a set of organizational and technical measures has been formulated to prevent the development of an unsteady mode by using hydrodynamic and cavitation protection devices, active energy absorbers and devices for reducing dynamic loads in pipeline networks. © 2022 IEEE.

We present a local minimax lower bound on the excess cost of designing a linear-quadratic controller from offline data. The bound is valid for any offline exploration policy that consists of a stabilizing controller and an energy bounded exploratory input. The derivation leverages a relaxation of the minimax estimation problem to Bayesian estimation, and an application of van Trees inequality. We show that the bound aligns with system-theoretic intuition. In particular, we demonstrate that the lower bound increases when the optimal control objective value increases. We also show that the lower bound increases when the system is poorly excitable, as characterized by the spectrum of the controllability gramian of the system mapping the noise to the state and the $\mathcal{H}_{\infty}$ norm of the system mapping the input to the state. We further show that for some classes of systems, the lower bound may be exponential in the state dimension, demonstrating exponential sample complexity for learning the linear-quadratic regulator.

Physics-inspired Neural Networks for Parameter Learning of Adaptive Cruise control systems

This paper proposes and develops a physics-inspired neural network (PiNN) for learning the parameters of commercially implemented adaptive cruise control (ACC) systems in automotive industry. To emulate the core functionality of stock ACC systems, which have proprietary control logic and undisclosed parameters, the constant time-headway policy (CTHP) is adopted. Leveraging the multi-layer artificial neural networks as universal approximators, the developed PiNN serves as a surrogate model for the longitudinal dynamics of ACC-engaged vehicles, efficiently learning the unknown parameters of the CTHP. The PiNNs allow the integration of physical laws directly into the learning process. The ability of the PiNN to infer the unknown ACC parameters is meticulously assessed using both synthetic and high-fidelity empirical data of space-gap and relative velocity involving ACC-engaged vehicles in platoon formation. The results have demonstrated the superior predictive ability of the proposed PiNN in learning the unknown design parameters of stock ACC systems from different car manufacturers. The set of ACC model parameters obtained from the PiNN revealed that the stock ACC systems of the considered vehicles in three experimental campaigns are neither L2 nor L∞ string stable. © 2023, CC BY-NC-ND.

The development of modern IT technologies and resources, offer in many economic-industrial applications, efficient solutions for planning and managing of specific activities. New research directions in the field of management and optimization of supply-customer (SC) systems are defined and evaluated. The paper proposes a management model based on a causal graph structure, which expresses the connection and interdependence between the two entities involved in the specific activities of the field, the suppliers of goods and services and the consumers of these goods and products. Information related to production and storage capacity, up-to-date requirements for customer needs, delivery planning, production and consumption dynamics are considered. The transport between the actors involved in the system is an important component with weight in the costs of supply-sale activities. The optimal solution for the supply-customer transport system is proposed based on different strategies of game theory.
