A method for diagnosing unsteady modes of electrohydraulic complex electromechanical systems based on monitoring of energy processes as part of the variable-frequency electric drive of the pump has been developed. It is based on the analysis of instantaneous power derivatives and its amplitude-frequency characteristics at all elements of the energy channel. Diagnostic signs of the identification of emergency modes have been determined and a set of organizational and technical measures has been formulated to prevent the development of an unsteady mode by using hydrodynamic and cavitation protection devices, active energy absorbers and devices for reducing dynamic loads in pipeline networks.

Higher-order tensor methods for minimizing difference of convex functions

Higher-order tensor methods were recently proposed for minimizing smooth convex and nonconvex functions. Higher-order algorithms accelerate the convergence of the classical first-order methods thanks to the higher-order derivatives used in the updates. The purpose of this paper is twofold. Firstly, to show that the higher-order algorithmic framework can be generalized and successfully applied to (nonsmooth) difference of convex functions, namely, those that can be expressed as the difference of two smooth convex functions and a possibly nonsmooth convex one. We also provide examples when the subproblem can be solved efficiently, even globally. Secondly, to derive a complete convergence analysis for our higher-order difference of convex functions (HO-DC) algorithm. In particular, we prove that any limit point of the HO-DC iterative sequence is a critical point of the problem under consideration, the corresponding objective value is monotonically decreasing and the minimum value of the norms of its subgradients converges globally to zero at a sublinear rate. The sublinear or linear convergence rates of the iterations are obtained under the Kurdyka-Lojasiewicz property. © 2024, CC BY.

Based on the principles of fuzzy control, a number of structural and system engineering solutions have been developed and researched for the double-loop structure of the electric mode control system of the arc steel furnace (AF) in order to comprehensively improve electromagnetic compatibility indicators. A method of operative real-time synthesis of artificial external characteristics of the arc furnace was created for the implementation of optimal control with the criterion of minimizing fluctuations and deviation of the power grid voltage at the AF connection point. The proposed solutions are aimed at the implementation of the strategy of comprehensive improvement of indicators of electromagnetic compatibility and energy efficiency of the arc furnace and the power grid (PG). A Simulink model of the developed double-loop automatic control system (ACS) of the arc furnace electric modes (EM) and the power grid was created and computer studies were carried out. The obtained research results showed a comprehensive improvement of AF and PG electromagnetic compatibility indicators.

The paper authors analyze the safety control systems synthesis problem for critical technological processes on the railway signalling and automation systems. It is shown that modern control systems for complex distributed systems, such as a railway transport system, are not implemented with absolute safety. Such systems safety is limited by considering only their own failures, control systems and their components external failures, as well as infrastructure objects failures that directly interact with control devices. Other infrastructure facilities are not considered in any way during automatic control and data transfer to on-board automation. We presents the theoretical principles for the safety train traffic control system synthesis, considering the capabilities of equipping infrastructure facilities with highly reliable and safe means of technical diagnostics and monitoring. A simplified structure of the central train traffic control complex is given, considering the diagnosing and monitoring results of all transportation process components. The conditions for the completely safety train traffic control systems synthesis are formulated. The tasks going with the safe control system synthesis problem are noted. The railway infrastructure facilities and rolling stock parameters comprehensive accounting will allow reaching a qualitatively higher level of train traffic safety. © 2023 IEEE.

The study, published in the journal Nature Medicine, looked at data on 1,000 people from China who were tracked over an average period of six years. The participants were divided into two groups: those who lived in areas with high levels of air pollution and those who lived in areas with low levels of air pollution. The study analyzed data on patients with lung cancer, including their age, gender, exposure to air pollution, alcohol consumption, dust allergy, occupational hazards, genetic risk, chronic lung disease, balanced diet, obesity, smoking, passive smoking, chest pain, cough, hemoptysis, fatigue, weight loss, shortness of breath, wheezing, difficulty swallowing, nail thickening and snoring. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

In recent decades, data from different industrial processes and machinery are usually collected and monitored thanks to new technologies. One of the main objectives is to explore and extract knowledge from the collected data by machine learning techniques. However, data are usually partially labelled, lack of sufficient information and even contain noise. Thus, the objective of our proposal is the design and development of a solution named PLAHS (Partial Labelling Autonomous Hyper-heuristic System) that autonomously labels partially labelled databases and evaluates the yielded labelling solution by means of a novel trustworthiness metric (TM). The proposal is based on a hyperheuristic inspired approach that optimises the parameters of different clustering algorithms, based on a novel semi-supervised metric named Partially Supervised Optimization Metric (PSOM). The proposal has been tested with promising and excellent results on both a real use case for labelling work orders in a cold stamping press, and 13 databases from the UCI (multivariate data) and UCR (time series data) repositories. © 2022, The Authors. The research on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAV)has intensified considerably thanks to the recent growth in the fields of advanced automatic control,artificial intelligence,and *** this paper,a Grey Wolf Optimization(GWO)algorithm is proposed and successfully applied to tune all effective parameters of Fast Terminal Sliding Mode(FTSM)controllers for a quadrotor UAV.A full control scheme is first established to deal with the coupled and underactuated dynamics of the *** for altitude,attitude,and position dynamics become separately designed and *** work around the repetitive and time-consuming trial-error-based procedures,all FTSM controllers’parameters for only altitude and attitude dynamics are systematically tuned thanks to the proposed GWO *** a hard and complex tuning task is formulated as a nonlinear optimization problem under operational *** performance and robustness of the GWO-based control strategy are compared to those based on homologous metaheuristics and standard terminal sliding mode *** simulations are carried out to show the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed GWO-tuned FTSM controllers for the altitude and attitude dynamics’stabilization and *** statistical analyses revealed that the GWO algorithm is more competitive with high performance in terms of fastness,non-premature convergence,and research exploration/exploitation capabilities.

Denoising plays a vital role in surface metrology and other engineering domains. Frequently, these noises manifest themselves as outliers and high-frequency artifacts. Traditional denoising techniques, such as Gaussian and partial differential equation-based diffusion filters, although effective, often involve a time-consuming calibration process, especially when addressing diverse topographical surfaces. The challenge intensifies for novice users in the presence of varied surface textures. This paper addresses these challenges by introducing a learning-based solution that aims to deliver the benefits of traditional filters without the need for manual tuning. Denoising convolutional neural network is employed as the basic architecture due to its effectiveness in tackling mix-level Gaussian noise and adapting to small training dataset. Acknowledging the constraints of limited datasets, prevalent in many engineering scenarios, we propose a novel physics-informed loss. This innovative loss marries filtering techniques with neural network training, tapping into data characteristics for enhanced model performance. Furthermore, we also embrace hybrid data augmentation techniques, going beyond conventional approaches by further generating customized noise maps to enhance recognition of complex components. Through extensive experiments, our proposed denoising model consistently outperforms meticulously calibrated traditional filters on average. Additionally, when juxtaposing our physics-informed loss with the conventional DnCNN loss across different dataset sizes, our approach consistently emerges superior, particularly with more constrained datasets. Furthermore, the new loss shows effectiveness in general image denoising, which proves the robustness and universality of this suggested method. These findings underscore the promise of our method as a general avenue to seamlessly weave domain expertise into neural networks, especially in data-scarce situations of most industr

This paper presents an analysis of a data set to determine the factors influencing airline passenger satisfaction. The study examines various criteria such as gender, customer type, age, travel type, class, and range to assess their impact on passenger satisfaction. The dataset consists of 25 columns, including attributes like Wi-Fi availability, convenience of online booking, seat comfort, in-flight entertainment, baggage handling, and overall satisfaction. The sample is relatively balanced, with equal representation of men and women, predominantly repeat customers, and a majority flying for business purposes. Key findings include a strong correlation between departure and arrival delays, higher satisfaction among passengers in business class, and positive ratings for Wi-Fi service correlating with overall satisfaction. Correlation analysis reveals interdependencies between different attributes, such as the influence of cleanliness on seat comfort and food and beverage ratings. In addition, a neural network forecasting model is used to estimate the average ratings of passengers, although with low accuracy, which was later excluded. Finally, a decision tree algorithm is utilized to identify the most significant attributes affecting passenger satisfaction words. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

This paper introduces a new variational Gaussian filtering approach for estimating the state of a nonlinear dynamic system. We first assume that the predictive distribution of the state is Gaussian and derive an iterative method for updating the state posterior in the natural parameter space through KullbackLeibler divergence minimization. The obtained update rule is the same as that of the conjugate-computation variational inference technique in Bayesian learning. The derivation here is simpler and more insightful. We then impose a Wishart prior on the inverse of the state prediction covariance to take into account the impact of approximating the state predictive distribution using a Gaussian density on the state posterior estimation. The prediction covariance is identified jointly with the state using variational inference and the established state posterior update rule to achieve the desired Gaussian filtering. Simulation study examines the performance of the proposed filtering framework in target tracking based on bearing and range measurements.
