Understanding how cell fate is determined when exposed to extreme stresses such as heat shock is critical in biomedical systems. It has long been understood that exposure of cells to high temperature typically protect themselves with a heat shock response (HSR), where accumulation of denatured or unfolded proteins triggers the synthesis of heat shock proteins (HSPs) through the heat shock transcription factor, e.g., heat shock factor 1 (HSF1). Recent experimental work has also shown that protein posttranslational modifications (PTMs) such as SUMOylation play crucial roles in cellular responses to heat shock. As a complementary approach to the current experimental methodologies, in this study we aim to develop a mathematical model of SUMOylation-development synergism of HSR for the purpose of studying the dynamical behaviour of HSR quantitatively. The structure of our dynamical model is derived mostly from mass action kinetics while the model parameters are optimized by using a genetic algorithm (GA) based data-driven approach. The preliminary results show GA based data-driven approach has potentials for our modelling purpose.

In this paper, we present a distributed version of the k-means algorithm for multi-agent systems with directed communication links. The goal of k-means is to partition the network’s agents in mutually exclusive sets (groups) such that agents in the same set have (and possibly share) similar information and are able to calculate a representative value for their group. Our distributed algorithm allows each node to transmit quantized values in an event-driven fashion, and exhibits distributed stopping capabilities. Transmitting quantized values leads to more efficient usage of the available bandwidth and reduces the communication bottleneck, whereas distributed stopping preserves available resources. We characterize the properties of the proposed distributed algorithm and show that its execution (on any static and strongly connected digraph) will partition all agents in mutually exclusive clusters in finite time. We conclude with examples that illustrate the operation, performance, and potential advantages of the proposed algorithm.

A supervisory monitoring scheme is designed for the control of infectious diseases. The design is based on the tested accumulated information entropy of the absolute error of the model versus the observed data. Such a supervisory loss function is minimized at each supervision time-interval occurring in-between each two consecutive switching time instants. The design method allows to set through time the active model, within a prescribed parallel structure of potential models, each with its own coefficient transmission rate. Such an active model generates the vaccination and or treatment controls to be injected to the monitored population. © 2020 IEEE.

During the movement of technological mechanisms under load, the electric drive must form a moment that would ensure a trouble-free mode of operation of both the technological mechanism and the electric drive. Modern research in vibroreology suggests that the destruction of intermolecular forces in the working environment during the application of vibration, which is manifested in the relative motion of the layers of the structured environment, leads to the destruction of bonds in the structure, reducing friction and adhesion, yield strength. This creates the conditions for the manifestation of current at lower shear stresses. During the analysis of physicochemical processes occurring in the working body with the working environment during downtime, it was found that for the complete destruction of the structure requires anisotropic regime of variable frequency and moment of vibration. The reduction of plastic viscosity in this case is achieved by destroying the structure of the medium. © 2021 IEEE.

The paper considers the importance of expanding the possibilities of environmental monitoring of environmental air parameters in the event of man-made emergencies. Software and hardware solutions have been developed for visualization and analysis of data from public environmental monitoring systems in normal and emergency situations using Power BI and Vaisala devices. The integration of various subsystems for measuring atmospheric air and microclimate indicators in a single computer system with a single software interface was carried out. © 2022 IEEE.

In the present day, the Internet of Things is becoming more and more popular. Enabling continuous connectivity and packet routing in this kind of network is difficult because of the resource limitations that are a feature of IoT. Reduce end-to-end latency, conserve energy, and balance network load are the three basic objectives of lightweight routing protocol. In this paper, we give a quick review of the IPv6 Routing Protocol for Low-Power and Lossy Networks-based routing protocols of VANET already in use and discuss their advantages and disadvantages. More specifically, we examine a few chosen VANET routing protocols and contrast their performance based on metrics like packet delivery ratio, Throughput, End to end delay, Routing- Cost, etc.

Operational loads have both static and dynamic characteristics. Dynamic loads occur during the operation of the considered mechanism, both during acceleration and deceleration periods, as well as during steady motion due to the movement of the moving element along an uneven path caused by the presence of the working environment on the elements over which the filter-press plates are moving. The dynamic loading is significant and affects the formation of plate-side displacements during their movement while performing the technological operation. Experimental studies of the load on the movement elements were conducted to determine optimal control modes for the filter-press plate movement mechanism, aiming to avoid overloading during stopping and filter jamming. To analyze the loading, discretization of random processes of the filter movement mechanism loading was performed. The sequence of calculating the statistical characteristics of the schematized dynamic process is presented. Based on experimental data, mathematical calculation of the results of schematization and the type of probability distribution law was carried out. To select the law that best reflects the experimental data distribution of load amplitudes, the Kolmogorov-Smirnov goodness-of-fit criterion was applied. According to the calculation results, it was found that the Weibull distribution law adequately reflects the distribution of amplitudes since its corresponding Kolmogorov-Smirnov criterion value is the smallest.

In this paper, we study the statistical difficulty of learning to control linear systems. We focus on two standard benchmarks, the sample complexity of stabilization, and the regret of the online learning of the Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR). Prior results state that the statistical difficulty for both benchmarks scales polynomially with the system state dimension up to system-theoretic quantities. However, this does not reveal the whole picture. By utilizing minimax lower bounds for both benchmarks, we prove that there exist non-trivial classes of systems for which learning complexity scales dramatically, i.e. exponentially, with the system dimension. This situation arises in the case of underactuated systems, i.e. systems with fewer inputs than states. Such systems are structurally difficult to control and their system theoretic quantities can scale exponentially with the system dimension dominating learning complexity. Under some additional structural assumptions (bounding systems away from uncontrollability), we provide qualitatively matching upper bounds. We prove that learning complexity can be at most exponential with the controllability index of the system, that is the degree of underactuation. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The association of weights in a distributed consensus protocol quantify the trust that an agent has on its neighbors in a network. An important problem in such networked systems is the uncertainty in the estimation of trust between neighboring agents, coupled with the losses arising from mistakenly associating wrong amounts of trust with different neighboring agents. We introduce a probabilistic approach which uses the historical data collected in the network, to determine the level of trust between each agent. Specifically, using the finite history of the shared data between neighbors, we obtain a configuration which represents the confidence estimate of every neighboring agent’s trustworthiness. Finally, we propose a History-Data-Driven (HDD) distributed consensus protocol which translates the computed configuration data into weights to be used in the consensus update. The approach using the historical data in the context of a distributed consensus setting marks the novel contribution of our paper. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Collaboration between robots provides solutions for transporting more complex and heavier loads. In this work, inspired by the ant colony foraging and transport, we put forward two collaborative models, Coupled-Carriers and Navigator-Carrier, for aerial cooperative transport. To achieve this, a linear quadratic regulator(LQR) is applied to optimize the performance. The results show the task of dual-drone transport of a bar load is successfully accomplished.
