The article deals with the study of power distribution in the traction substation power transformer of railway transport quarry. The calculation methods analysis of voltage and current harmonic components, and also corresponding distortions is carried out. It is assumed that each harmonic of current or voltage affects the power distribution in the transformer differently. In the visual environment, a model was created to study the effect of individual harmonics, or their combinations on the power distribution in the traction transformer. Using the experiment planning methods, a research plan was drawn up - a central compositional plan with star points. A series of experiments based on the calculations results using modern software for statistical calculations obtained regression equations and indicators that reflect a high level of adequacy. It is established that in the studied case the level of the current third harmonic has the highest significance. © 2021 IEEE.

The performance of Interline DC Power Flow controllers (IDC-PFCs) in Voltage Source Converters (VSC)-based High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) grids, can be affected due to different issues. The current limitation of HVDC lines, the voltage limitation of HVDC buses, and DC voltage of the IDC-PFC intermediary capacitor prevent effective and efficient operation of IDC-PFCs. In this paper, it is shown that this issue can be overcome by using a virtual capacitor in parallel with the IDC-PFC intermediary capacitor. Also, an energy control-based scheme is proposed for the operation of IDC-PFCs in VSC-HVDC grid. The benefits of using the virtual capacitor are: widening the operational area of the IDC-PFCs for the determined duty cycle and injecting more voltage in series to the interconnected HVDC line to control the related HVDC line current. The proposed solution is successfully evaluated on a CIGRE three-terminal VSC-HVDC grid which is modeled by linearized space-state equations.

This paper addresses a class of general nonsmooth and nonconvex composite optimization problems subject to nonlinear equality constraints. We assume that a part of the objective function and the functional constraints exhibit local smoothness. To tackle this challenging class of problems, we propose a novel linearized perturbed augmented Lagrangian method. This method incorporates a perturbation in the augmented Lagrangian function by scaling the dual variable with a sub-unitary parameter. Furthermore, we linearize the smooth components of the objective and the constraints within the perturbed Lagrangian function at the current iterate, while preserving the nonsmooth components. This approach, inspired by prox-linear (or Gauss-Newton) methods, results in a convex subproblem that is typically easy to solve. The solution of this subproblem then serves as the next primal iterate, followed by a perturbed ascent step to update the dual variables. Under a newly introduced constraint qualification condition, we establish the boundedness of the dual iterates. We derive convergence guarantees for the primal iterates, proving convergence to an ϵ-first-order optimal solution within O(ϵ−3) evaluations of the problem’s functions and their first derivatives. Moreover, when the problem exhibits for example a semialgebraic property, we derive improved local convergence results. Finally, we validate the theoretical findings and assess the practical performance of our proposed algorithm through numerical comparisons with existing state-of-the-art methods. © 2025, CC BY.

Investigation of pressure drop in flexible ventilation ducts under different compression ratios and bending angles

Due to the large degree of freedom in terms of design and installation, flexible ventilation ducts are commonly used in ventilation systems. However, excessive use of flexible ducts may lead to greater pressure drop and higher energy consumption. This study conducted experimental measurements to characterize the pressure drop in flexible ventilation ducts with different compression ratios and bending angles. This investigation first measured the pressure drop in straight flexible ducts with four compression ratios under various airflow rates. The calculated friction factor for the straight flexible ducts was negatively associated with the compression ratio. Next, the pressure drops in single-bend flexible ducts with various bending angles from 30° to 150° were measured under various airflow rates. The calculated loss coefficient of the bend increased with the bending angle for single-bend flexible ducts. Finally, the influence of the intermediate duct length on the pressure drop across two bends was experimentally investigated. When the length of the intermediate duct was greater than eight times the inner diameter, the pressure drop across a double-bend flexible duct could be calculated from the friction factors and loss coefficients with a relative error less than 1%. The data obtained in this study can be used to calculate the total pressure loss in flexible ventilation ducting systems in buildings.

A double-loop structure of the high-speed fuzzy control of the electric arc furnace (AF) electric mode (EM) coordinates for the equalization of phase loads is proposed. System-technical solutions have been developed to increase the control speed of the EM coordinates and the implementation of phase-by-phase independent adjustment of the arc lengths. The components of the system control vector for the implementation of multi-criteria optimization of melting modes are substantiated. The proposed solutions are aimed at comprehensive improvement of the energy efficiency as well as the electromagnetic compatibility of AF and power grid modes. A computer Simulink-model of the developed double-loop AF EM control system was created and a study of the efficiency of the proposed solutions was carried out. A significant decrease of the phase loads asymmetry coefficient, a decrease in the of the EM coordinate dispersion, as well as an improvement in the indicators of electrotechnological efficiency and electromagnetic compatibility of the AF and the power grid are confirmed by the analysis of the results of their use.

This paper successfully developed and studied a phase shift control system for a two-rotor vibration mechatronic setup, aiming to maintain the desired revolving speed of the rotors. The sliding mode motion was achieved by utilizing a relay controller in the phase loop, while PI controllers were employed in the velocity control loops. Through numerical study and simulations using the parameters of the Mechatronic Vibration Setup SV-2M, the effectiveness of the proposed velocity and phase shift control laws was demonstrated. The possibility of sliding mode occurrence in the phase shift loop was examined through analytical and numerical analysis, confirming its presence. The relationship between the relative degree of the transfer function of the plant and the possibility of the occurrence of a sliding mode is analyzed based on the locus of a perturbed relay system approach. Simulation results indicated that sliding mode motion appeared after a finite transient time and showcased the dynamical properties of the closed-loop system. In conclusion, the findings of this study validate the efficacy of the phase shift control system in achieving the desired rotor speed and demonstrate the feasibility of implementing sliding mode motion in the mechatronic setup. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Additive manufacturing (AM) is emerging within many industrial applications due to inherent advantages such as rapid prototyping and produc- tion. However, the correlation of process parameters across modules and their impacts on product quality are not yet fully understood. This article presents a system built out of Internet of Things (IoT) and edge computing technologies to collect and analyze AM process in-situ. An IoT thermal camera platform was developed, and integrated within an Laser Based Additive Manufacturing (LBAM) system to collect information that could be used to characterize the thermal distribution surrounding the melt pool. Machine learning techniques were utilised to identify the occurrence of defects using the collected low-resolution thermal images. © 2021 The Author(s).

The energy crisis is a massive problem in today's world. Conventional energy sources are not only limited but also major contributors to environmental pollution. Renewable energy sources are becoming priorities worldwide. To reduce dependence on conventional energy sources, it is necessary to explore alternative options. Solar energy is rapidly gaining attention as an important means of expanding the use of renewable energy. Solar cells, which convert solar energy into electrical energy, are expensive and relatively inefficient. Various mechanisms and systems are used to increase the efficiency of solar cells and maximize energy generation. A solar tracking system is used to enhance the efficiency of solar cells by tracking the movement of the sun. This article describes the methodology for designing an automatic solar tracker based on the ESP32 microcontroller. Light-dependent resistors (LDRs) are used as sensors to detect the current position of the sun. The proposed tracker has a precise control mechanism that adjusts the orientation of the solar panel based on the measured values from the LDRs to achieve the optimal position perpendicular to the sun, ensuring the highest productivity in energy generation. The result is a constructed small-scale prototype of a solar tracking system, along with a description of its components and the programming part.

Attending to the speech stream of interest in multi-talker environments can be a challenging task, particularly for listeners with hearing impairment. Research suggests that neural responses assessed with electroencephalography (EEG) are modulated by listener’s auditory attention, revealing selective neural tracking (NT) of the attended speech. NT methods mostly rely on hand-engineered acoustic and linguistic speech features to predict the neural response. Only recently, deep neural network (DNN) models without specific linguistic information have been used to extract speech features for NT, demonstrating that speech features in hierarchical DNN layers can predict neural responses throughout the auditory pathway. In this study, we go one step further to investigate the suitability of similar DNN models for speech to predict neural responses to competing speech observed in EEG. We recorded EEG data using a 64-channel acquisition system from 17 listeners with normal hearing instructed to attend to one of two competing talkers. Our data revealed that EEG responses are significantly better predicted by DNN-extracted speech features than by hand-engineered acoustic features. Furthermore, analysis of hierarchical DNN layers showed that early layers yielded the highest predictions. Moreover, we found a significant increase in auditory attention classification accuracies with the use of DNN-extracted speech features over the use of hand-engineered acoustic features. These findings open a new avenue for development of new NT measures to evaluate and further advance hearing technology.
