Efficient allocation of independent gridlet on small, medium, and large grid

Gridlet allocation in a computational grid environment is a major research issue to obtain not only the efficient gridlet allocation technique but also the time needed to obtain the efficient allocation technique. Grid computing networks have various nodes to process user jobs. To achieve the high performance of computational grid, task scheduling is an important issue. The users who are using services of grid systems are more cautious about time to complete their job. Hence, this work concentrates on gridlet allocation method used for time reduction by a genetic algorithm with the MapReduce programming model for independent tasks in computational grid. In computational grid environment, multi-objective problem formulation minimization of makespan and flowtime is considered. In this proposed technique, fitness function formulation for makespan and flowtime has been formulated mathematically. The genetic algorithm with the MapReduce programming model is implemented using MapReduce written in Java and then combined with GridSim. The experimental outcome with regard to time needed, flowtime, and makespan clearly reveals that the genetic algorithm with the MapReduce model effectively optimizes time, makespan, and flowtime in computational grid environment. A comparative study of performance efficiency among genetic algorithm with the MapReduce and sequential genetic algorithm (SGA) and parallel genetic algorithm (PGA) depicts the usefulness of the model. The execution time achieved by GA with the MapReduce model in small grid is 10.48 s, medium grid is 18.76 s, and large grid is 33.73 s. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature.

The escalation of urban air pollution necessitates innovative solutions for real-time air quality monitoring and prediction. This paper introduces a novel TinyML-based system designed to predict ozone concentration in real-time. The system employs an Arduino Nano 33 BLE Sense microcontroller equipped with an MQ7 sensor for carbon monoxide (CO) detection and built-in sensors for temperature and pressure measurements. The data, sourced from a Kaggle dataset on air quality parameters from India, underwent thorough cleaning and preprocessing. Model training and evaluation were performed using Edge Impulse, considering various combinations of input parameters (CO, temperature, and pressure). The optimal model, incorporating all three variables, achieved a mean squared error (MSE) of 0.03 and an R-squared value of 0.95, indicating high predictive accuracy. The regression model was deployed on the microcontroller via the Arduino IDE, showcasing robust real-time performance. Sensitivity analysis identified CO levels as the most critical predictor of ozone concentration, followed by pressure and temperature. The system’s low-cost and low-power design makes it suitable for widespread implementation, particularly in resource-constrained settings. This TinyML approach provides precise real-time predictions of ozone levels, enabling prompt responses to pollution events and enhancing public health protection. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Hornbills, an iconic species of Malaysia's biodiversity, face threats from habitat loss, poaching, and environmental changes, necessitating accurate and real-time population monitoring that is traditionally challenging and resource intensive. The emergence of Tiny Machine Learning (TinyML) offers a chance to transform wildlife monitoring by enabling efficient, real-time data analysis directly on edge devices. Addressing the challenge of wildlife conservation, this research paper explores the pivotal role of machine learning, specifically TinyML, in the classification and monitoring of hornbill calls in Malaysia. Leveraging audio data from the Xeno-canto database, the study aims to develop a speech recognition system capable of identifying and classifying hornbill vocalizations. The proposed methodology involves preprocessing the audio data, extracting features using Mel-Frequency Energy (MFE), and deploying the model on an Arduino Nano 33 BLE, which is adept at edge computing. The research encompasses foundational work, including a comprehensive introduction, literature review, and methodology. The model is trained using Edge Impulse and validated through real-world tests, achieving high accuracy in hornbill species identification. People with disabilities have physical, sensory, cognitive, or behavioral health problems that limit their participation in activities and interaction with the environment. Deafness is one of the most common types of disability in society. Since verbal communication is impossible for the deaf, sign language is one of the most often used forms of communication among those disable people. However, a third party who is fluent in sign language is necessary for efficient communication. This research study proposed a sign language detector for Sinhala using Logistic Regression, Ridge Classifier, Random Forest, and Gradient Boosting algorithms with human pose estimation. The method used upper-body stance landmarks with 100 human pose videos and 40 widely used signals to extract features for body language classification. With an overall 86.75% success rate, this study is a major step toward improving deaf people's communication in Sri Lanka. © 2024 IEEE.

With the increasing penetration of photovoltaic (PV) systems posing challenges to power system stability, this paper investigates the effectiveness of grid-forming controlled PV systems in providing frequency ancillary services. The study implements the Virtual Synchronous Machine strategy, utilizing DC-link capacitor energy for inertial response provision (DCVQVSM), integrated within a grid-forming topology. To ensure power-frequency droop control, an additional control loop is introduced within the DCVQ-VSM topology. The efficacy of this control system is proved through simulations conducted on a simple two-bus system and a fully-electrified active distribution network (ADN). Both case studies demonstrate the successful operation of grid-forming controlled PV systems, highlighting their capability to influence power system frequency dynamics. The analysis underscores the significance of deloading PV operation in facilitating flexibility services provision, thereby enhancing the reliability and resilience of system operation. © 2024 IEEE.

Enterprise Information systems (EIS) are widely used to support operational and tactical processes of companies and have begun, in recent years, to be used at the strategic level to support decision-making processes. To do so, new systems, known as intelligent EIS, integrate data analytics modules to provide the necessary information and reports to make informed decisions. There are certain influencing factors for the adoption of such systems, however, from a first analysis of the academic literature, it was found that research works in the domain are very scarce and even more, there are no research works on the subject in Colombia. Consequently, this article aims at identifying the relevant factors for the adoption of intelligent EIS based on an analysis of the academic literature, and then structuring a focus group activity with 5 experts on the subject to obtain a first approach to the adoption of this kind of systems for the Colombian context. As a preliminary result, we found that in the Colombian industry the most important influencing factors include cost and IT capabilities which differs from main factors identified in the revision of the international scholar literature. Our practice programs have changed drastically after the appearance of COVID-19. The practical sessions designed for all Automation subjects until 2019 were face-to-face. But the arrival of the pandemic and health restrictions resulted in the closure of our university facilities, which forced us to redo the laboratory experiences. It is in this context that simulation and gamification helped us to move forward, since the solution we followed was the virtualization of the laboratory. Although the degree of satisfaction of the students with the new practical sessions is quite good, the purpose of this paper is not to present a detailed analysis of all the simulation and gamification tools we studied, but to explain what our situation was like before COVID-19, how we faced the change, what we learned in the process, what the new practice programs we are currently following are like, what tools have helped us, and what goals we still have to achieve. Current monitoring systems supply chains reveal deficiencies such as homogeneous traceability of the process, active participation of the actors involved in each stage, timely communication of results, compliance with regulatory aspects or international standards, and attention to consumer-oriented information requirements. Aiming to have a reliable mechanism that guarantees quality, safety and sustainability of food through the whole chain, this paper proposes a framework based on Blockchain (BC) attributes, IoT devices and Machine Learning (ML) techniques to detect unusual patterns in some attributes measured during transportation.
