Accurate segmentation of the ventricular structures and myocardium from Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) images is essential to diagnose and manage cardiovascular diseases. This study systematically evaluates the performance of five U-Net variants in cardiac MRI segmentation using the Automated Cardiac Diagnosis Challenge (ACDC) dataset and a hybrid loss function combining Cross-Entropy and dice losses. Among the variants, the Feature Pyramid U-Net achieved the best performance, with Dice coefficients of 0.9388 (Left Ventricle), 0.8759 (Right Ventricle), and 0.8426 (Myocardium), showcasing its superior ability to capture multi-scale features and segment complex anatomical structures. The comprehensive and standardized evaluation conducted in this study provides valuable insights into the strengths and limitations of these architectures for cardiac segmentation.

Current gait recognition research mainly focuses on identifying pedestrians captured by the same type of sensor, neglecting the fact that individuals may be captured by different sensors in order to adapt to various environments. A more practical approach should involve cross-modality matching across different sensors. Hence, this paper focuses on investigating the problem of cross-modality gait recognition, with the objective of accurately identifying pedestrians across diverse vision sensors. We present CrossGait inspired by the feature alignment strategy, capable of cross retrieving diverse data modalities. Specifically, we investigate the cross-modality recognition task by initially extracting features within each modality and subsequently aligning these features across modalities. To further enhance the cross-modality performance, we propose a Prototypical Modality-shared Attention Module that learns modality-shared features from two modality-specific features. Additionally, we design a Cross-modality Feature Adapter that transforms the learned modality-specific features into a unified feature space. Extensive experiments conducted on the SUSTech1K dataset demonstrate the effectiveness of CrossGait: (1) it exhibits promising cross-modality ability in retrieving pedestrians across various modalities from different sensors in diverse scenes, and (2) CrossGait not only learns modality-shared features for cross-modality gait recognition but also maintains modality-specific features for single-modality recognition.

Enteric fermentation contributes substantially to greenhouse gas emissions (GGEs) in agriculture, but may be reversible in the short-term. To date, numerous attempts have been made to model the environmental impact of agriculture, but have failed to integrate multiple dimensions of production. The objective of this study is to adapt the cross industry standard process for data mining (CRISP-DM) at farm level, using the concept of life cycle assessment (LCA) and implemented a modified version of the global livestock environmental assessment model (GLEAM). Using local data collected over 20 years and secondary data, our results show that for dairy cattle, the methane emissions factor from cattle is lower among marginal farms 86 Kg CH4 head−1 year−1 compared to semi-intensive and intensive farms across time and geographical regions (107.4 and 113.5 respectively) and demonstrate that this type of application is relevant for developing countries and smallholder agriculture, where production data is often unavailable. Biologically plausible Spiking Neural Networks (SNNs), characterized by spike sparsity, are growing tremendous attention over intellectual edge devices and critical bio-medical applications as compared to artificial neural networks (ANNs). However, there is a considerable risk from malicious attempts to extract white-box information (i.e., weights) from SNNs, as attackers could exploit well-trained SNNs for profit and white-box adversarial concerns. There is a dire need for intellectual property (IP) protective measures. In this paper, we present a novel secure software-hardware co-designed RRAM-based neuromorphic accelerator for protecting the IP of SNNs. Software-wise, we design a tailored genetic algorithm with classic XOR encryption to target the least number of weights that need encryption. From a hardware perspective, we develop a low-energy decryption module, meticulously designed to provide zero decryption latency. Extensive results from various datasets, including NMNIST, DVSGesture, EEGMMIDB, Braille Letter, and SHD, demonstrate that our proposed method effectively secures SNNs by encrypting a minimal fraction of stealthy weights, only 0.00005% to 0.016% weight bits. Additionally, it achieves a substantial reduction in energy consumption, ranging from ×59 to ×6780, and significantly lowers decryption latency, ranging from ×175 to ×4250. Moreover, our method requires as little as one sample per class in dataset for encryption and addresses hessian/gradient-based search insensitive problems. This strategy offers a highly efficient and flexible solution for securing SNNs in diverse applications1 © 2024 Copyright is held by the owner/author(s).

Personalized drug response prediction is an approach for tailoring effective therapeutic strategies for patients based on their tumors’ genomic characterization. While machine learning methods are widely employed in the literature, they often struggle to capture drug-cell line relations across various cell lines. In addressing this challenge, our study introduces a novel listwise Learning-to-Rank (LTR) model named Inversion Transformer-based Neural Ranking (ITNR). ITNR utilizes genomic features and a transformer architecture to decipher functional relationships and construct models that can predict patient-specific drug responses. Our experiments were conducted on three major drug response data sets, showing that ITNR reliably and consistently outperforms state-of-the-art LTR models. © 2024 Elsevier Ltd

In a network design, the control plane and the data plane are separated by the architectural concept of software defined networking (SDN). A centralised controller that serves as the only point of control for the whole network is introduced by the SDN architecture. The controller serves as a logically centralized entity in charge of communicating the appropriate rules to a switch's flow table. Using a single controller to handle a lot of flows becomes insufficient. A lot of large-scale networks have employed multi-controller SDN to meet their objectives. In this research, we use a multi-controller infinite buffer waiting queue model to analyze the system performance metrics. Both numerical and simulated assessments are used to illustrate the proposed model. © 2023 IEEE.

Employers should recognize that employees are the most vulnerable aspect of business environments since these cyber hazards are growing because of user neglect, lack of fundamental security discipline, and a fast-changing threat context. The theoretical approach proposed in the study bridges the difference by carefully following and handling the staff's internet presence. Overall, the study describes a comprehensive solution to govern the security of employees' internet presence by utilizing Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) for advanced intrusion detection, Natural Language Processing (NLP) for implementation and enforcement of browser-based security policies, visual and text data recognition to identify phishing attempts, and lastly analyzing and profiling users based on their online presence via a mathematical model. As a result, this study provides a comprehensive solution for mitigating risks related to human factors in corporate environments.

Swallowing assessment is a crucial task to reveal swallowing abnormalities. There are multiple modalities to analyze swallowing kinematics, such as videofluoroscopic swallow studies (VFSS), which is the gold standard method, and high-resolution cervical auscultation (HRCA), which is a noninvasive technique that uses a triaxial accelerometer attached to the patient's neck. Deep learning models play an essential role in data driven analysis of swallowing landmarks using VFSS and/or HRCA as input data. Most of these models utilize convolutional and recurrent neural networks. Here, we investigate the ability of transformers to analyze swallowing kinematics;specifically upper esophageal sphincter opening and laryngeal vestibule closure using HRCA signals. We tested the model using an independent test dataset to assess the generalizability of the proposed network. The proposed network achieved an average detection accuracy higher than 90% and 85% for both segmentation tasks, which outperform the hybrid neural networks from the literature, and the model obtained high-performance measures for the independent dataset, showing the transformers' ability to generalize on unseen data. © 2024 IEEE.
