The problem of designing recurrent continuous-time and spiking neural networks is NP-Hard. A common practice is to utilize stochastic searches, such as evolutionary algorithms, to automatically construct acceptable networks. The outcome of the stochastic search is related to its ability to navigate the search space of neural networks and discover those of high quality. In this paper we investigate the search space associated with designing the above recurrent neural networks in order to differentiate which network should be easier to automatically design via a stochastic search. Our investigation utilizes two popular dynamic systems problems; (1) the Henon map and (2) the inverted pendulum as a benchmark.

In this work we realized the method multistage mixing of speech signals and conducted the series of computational experiments at wav-files. As a result of experiments we received dependences time of mixing speech signals, which are contained in wav-files, from amount wav-files and their descriptions. We formed requirements to the speech signals, that mixed accordant with the method of multistage mixing, which allow decreasing time of mixing of speech signals.

Routing is one of the fundamental but challenging issues in mobile ad hoc networks. During the past several years, a large number of routing protocols have been proposed, which can basically be categorized into three different groups including proactive/table-driven, reactive/on-demand, and hybrid. In this paper, we propose a novel hybrid routing protocol for large scale mobile ad hoc networks, namely HCR (Hybrid Cluster Routing). Here nodes are organized into a hierarchical structure of multi-hop clusters using a stable distributed clustering algorithm. Each cluster is composed of a clusterhead, several gateway nodes, and other ordinary nodes. The clusterhead is responsible for maintaining local membership and global topology information. In HCR, the acquisition of intra-cluster routing information operates in an on-demand fashion and the maintenance of inter-cluster routing information acts in a proactive way. Simulation results show that HCR conduces better scalability, robustness and adaptability to large scale mobile ad hoc networks compared with some well-known routing protocols, e.g. AODV, DSR, and CBRP.

Adaptive bandwidth allocation is becoming very attractive in wireless communications since it can adjust the allocated bandwidth of ongoing calls to cope with the network resource fluctuations. In this paper, we present a novel bandwidth adaptation algorithm for multi-class traffic in wireless networks. With the proposed scheme each call in the network is assigned a utility function according to its traffic characteristics. When the network is overloaded the allocated bandwidth of ongoing calls can be dynamically degraded to free bandwidth to accept the new and handoff calls. The objective of bandwidth degradation is to achieve both intra-class and inter-class utility fairness in each individual cell i.e. all calls within the same class receive fair utility and all different classes of calls receive fair utility. Simulation results show that our bandwidth adaptation scheme is effective in attaining both kinds of utility fairness while keeping the call blocking and handoff dropping probabilities of wireless networks substantially low

In this article, we describe a grid of sensors to collect patients' vital data and to allow real time monitoring of patients in heath-care centres. We analyse the problem scenario and identify the components involved towards the construction of an integrated and homogeneous management system. Finally, we present a case study to demonstrate the applicability of our approach

This paper addresses the secure storage and transmission of medical informatics in rapidly growing applications such as teleradiology and telesurgery. In particular, we propose a frequency domain digital watermarking technique that can be used to authenticate medical images in a distributed diagnosis and home healthcare environment. The most significant result of our method is the semi-reversibility property that undoes most of the degradation attributable to the watermarking process

A cellular neural/nonlinear network (CNN) is any spatial arrangement of mainly locally coupled cells, where each cell is a dynamical system which has an input, an output and a state that evolves according to some prescribed dynamical laws. Since the CNN was first introduced in 1988, research in this field has developed rapidly. The goal of this tutorial is to provide participants with a snapshot of the current state of the art and research trends. It covers the broad multi-disciplinary areas of CNN research, from theoretical aspects to applications. The presenters have experience ranging from theoretical analysis of CNN dynamics, VLSI implementation and system level applications

Lagrange's equations of motion are used to obtain a differential algebraic equation representing the nonlinear dynamics of cable systems approximated through the use of multibody modelling. The differential algebraic equation of index 3 is cast as an ordinary differential equation and integrated using the LSODAR software. The cable system consists of an arbitrary number of links between which restoring torques are placed to provide a damping effect. A cable car is introduced to ride upon the cable, where the initial conditions of the cable car system are determined by allowing the original cable system to fall into an equilibrium position. Graphs and animation indicate the chaotic behaviour of both multibody systems, and it is shown that the CPU time increases in a cubic nature as the number of bodies in the system increases. Finally, the accuracy of the results is investigated using a constraint compliance testing procedure.
