The Z-source neutral point clamped (NPC) inverters can realize buck-boost energy conversion with all satisfying advantages of the three-level inverters. A significant problem related to this topology is the fluctuation of the neutral-point potential (NP). However, the previous modulation techniques for this topology cannot achieve the considerate stable voltage. In this paper, based on the analysis of the relationship among the shoot-through duty cycle and the NP voltage, the average NP current, switching frequency capacitor value, a new feed-forward compensator by modifying the shoot-through duty cycle which can improve to balance the NP voltage balancing is proposed. Meanwhile, in consideration of a low voltage gain caused by the NP voltage balance method, a new control method based on a maximum constant boost control method is proposed, which brings the benefits in both high voltage gain and low-frequency ripple. The considerate stable NP voltage and the high voltage gain have been proven in simulation and through experimental results from a prototype converter.

In this paper an Indirect Matrix Converter (IMC) with two output stages feeding an open-end winding induction machine is presented. The IMC has the advantage of having nobulky energy storage elements and with the two output stages up to 1.5 times the input phase voltage can be obtained across the windings of the machine, without overmodulation. A vector control scheme for the machine currents is used along with a modulation strategy for the converter two-output stages to reduce the common mode voltage and compensate the phase zero sequence currents. Simulation results showing the performance of the controlscheme and the reduction of zero sequence and common mode voltages are presented and discussed.

In addition to simplicity, the DTC of the IM allows a good torque control in steady-state and transient operating conditions. However, high torque ripple is produced, which is reflected in speed estimation responses. It also increases acoustical noise and makes the voltage source inverter operated in high and variable switching frequency, requiring a high sampling frequency. In this paper, a simple effective ANN-based DTC of the induction machine is proposed. Neural networks with a simple architecture are designed and implemented in influential points of the direct torque control block of the three phase induction machine in order to improve its dynamic performance while preserving the DTC structure simplicity as much as possible. In particular, this paper proposes to reduce, on the one hand, the torque ripple and commutation frequency. Neural comparators are used to select the appropriate bandwidth for the torque and flux hysteresis controllers. Their aim is to optimize the ripple level in the developed torque and flux. On the other hand, a neural speed controller is designed in order to improve the system ability to respond rapidly to changes in process variables and mitigate the effects of external perturbations. The performance of the proposed control are tested in simulation and highlighted by comparing to the conventional DTC control based on conventional hysteresis comparators and conventional PI speed controller. The obtained results show the feasibility and good performances of the proposed control.

Rolling imprint lithography is an enabling technique for the mass production of ultra-precision micro-structured surfaces which are widely used in high value added optical products such as backlight guides for display devices. The accuracy of the produced micro-structured surfaces relies heavily on the master roller of which quality is difficult to be controlled by traditional off-line measurement process due to the large dimension and heavy weight of the workpiece. This paper presents a CCD based non-contact measurement system to perform the on-machine measurement of the structure pattern on machined rollers. Instead of measuring each single structure on the roller, the system is more focused on the characterization of the conformance of the structure pattern with the designer's requirement. Low angle monochromatic light is used to extract the structure pattern on the machined roller using a high magnification objective lens with a high resolution CCD sensor. The image processing techniques are then employed to characterize the captured image based on the designed pattern structure. The developed system has been mounted on a single-point diamond turning machine to measure the machined structured roller, and the results indicate that the developed measurement system is able to perform the on-machine measurement and characterization of the structure pattern of the machined roller with sub-micrometre accuracy. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

This paper investigates the performance of a single-phase induction motor (SPIM) drive operated as two-phase motor (TPIM) and controlled basing on fuzzy logic (FL). Because of coupling behavior between fluxes in motor, it is still necessary to advance in controller tuning. The applied control strategy proposed in this paper is the vector control based on fuzzy controllers. The application of this control strategy to the single-phase motor operating as two-phase motor increases its dynamic performance and constitutes a contribution to the study of this machine. Indeed, this type of machine has not yet taken its whole share from various works present until now, compared to the three-phase induction machine. The performances of the proposed control;applied to the single-phase induction motor supplied by voltage source inverter;are investigated by simulations under different operating conditions. The obtained results;compared to the traditional control method based on conventional controllers (CC);show the effectiveness and stronger robustness of the control system. © 2013 IEEE.

The diversification of the energy supply associated with the increasing interest in clean energy sources make most of the countries seek new technologies that could meet these needs. In this way, there has been a large increase in the number of wind turbines connected to the network. Considering the technological development and consequent increase in their capacity, the impact of wind turbines upon the network has been considered increasingly important for both steady state and dynamic conditions. In view of that, this paper will present a dynamic analysis of the impacts, especially electromechanical transients, caused by doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) based wind turbines connected to the transmission electrical system. © 2013 IEEE.
