The IEEE 802.15.4 protocol is a flexible technology with great potential for wireless sensor networks applications. The standard distinguishes two network modes; beacon-enabled and nonbeacon-enabled. In this paper, the performance study of beaconed and non-beaconed modes of IEEE 802.15.4 is evaluated using on site PER measurements. The tests are carryout in an urban outdoor environment with commercial available equipment. Likewise, the impact of Bluetooth interference over IEEE 802.15.4 modes is evaluated. The results show that Bluetooth interference and the mode selected have effects over the PER. Furthermore, for distances between 3 to 10 meters the PER doesn't show significance distance dependency.

In this paper, the property of practical input-to-state stability and its application to stability of cascaded nonlinear systems are investigated in the stochastic framework. Firstly, the notion of (practical) stochastic input-to-state stability with respect to a stochastic input is introduced, and then by the method of changing supply functions, (a) an (practical) SISS-Lyapunov function for the overall system is obtained from the corresponding Lyapunov functions for cascaded (practical) SISS subsystems.

A Fick's model that includes a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model to estimate the effective diffusivity was analyzed. The modelling of drying kinetics on mango trough this diffusional-fuzzy model was compared with the theoretical Fick's model and the empirical Peleg and Weibull models. The identification and validation was performed from experimental drying curves of ripe mango slices (Mangifera indica L. cv. Tommy Atkins) at constant air velocity (4 m/s) and different drying temperatures (40, 50, 60 and 70 °C). The fuzzy sets for the antecedent of Takagi-Sugeno system were identified by the Gustafson-Kessel clustering algorithm and approximated by membership functions of piecewise exponential form. On identification and validation, the diffusional-fuzzy model showed best results than the Fick's model, whereas it showed little difference with the Weibull and Peleg models. The diffusional-fuzzy model keeps the interpretability of Fick's model, improves the process simulation and avoids phenomenon and property considerations which require additional experimental and modelling work.

Searching for solutions to manufacture industries, which every day deal with problems of faults in their process, that generate economics and humans main losses, an algorithm to construct a Petri Nets based model and diagnoser to isolate and fault detection of discrete events systems is presented. This algorithm is developed in a real process of liquids packaging, where we can see that its implementation allows detecting individuals, simultaneous and dependents faults. The process to construct the model and diagnoser is systematic and useful, and it reduces the problems of combinational explosion, which is the main problem present in other investigations. This research has an excellent projection in intermittent faults diagnosis and hybrids systems.

Wave Field Synthesis (WFS) is a spatial sound rendering technique that generates a true sound field using loudspeaker arrays. Multiactuator Panels (MAPs) are an alternative technology to the dynamic piston loudspeakers, based on the distribute mode operation. Because of its low visual profile and negligible vibration of the panel, MAPs are very suitable for WFS reproduction. However, the size of current prototypes does not allow its use for real immersive environments in which loudspeaker must be integrated as walls or as projection screens. In addition, the extra area of a large panel can be used to accommodate extra exciters with which to generate sound fields at another elevation levels. In this paper, a large MAP prototype is presented that has been designed and built to fulfill the requirements of immersive audio applications. It represents a step forward in the applications of MAPs for immersing scenarios. The panel size enhances its acoustic behaviour in the low frequency range. Also, it can be employed for relative large projection screens for videoconferencing and for virtual reality.

Short texts clustering is one of the most difficult tasks in natural language processing due to the low frequencies of the document terms. We are interested in analysing these kind of corpora in order to develop novel techniques that may be used to improve results obtained by classical clustering algorithms. In this paper we are presenting an evaluation of different internal clustering validity measures in order to determine the possible correlation between these measures and that of the F-Measure, a well-known external clustering measure used to calculate the performance of clustering algorithms. We have used several short-text corpora, in the experiments carried out. The obtained correlation with a particular set of internal validity measures let us to conclude that some of them may be used to improve the performance of text clustering algorithms.

This paper presents a novel technique for implementing Clothoidal real-time paths for mobile robots. As first step, rational Bezier curves are obtained as approximation of the Fresnel integrals. By rescaling, rotating and translating the previously computed RBC, an on-line Clothoidal path is obtained. In this process, coefficients, weights and control points are kept invariant. This on-line approach guarantees that an RBC has the same behavior as the original Clothoid using a low curve order. The resulting Clothoidal path allows any two arbitrary poses to be joined in a plane. RBCs working as Clothoids are also used to search for the shortest bounded-curvature path with a significant computational cost reduction. In addition to this, the proposed technique is tested on a real mobile robot for trajectory generation and kinematic control. To the authors' knowledge, the present approach is the first technique which allows real-time Clothoidal path computation .
