Unmanned Ariel Vehicles (UAVs) have gained significant importance in diverse sectors. Thus, a profound safety risk analysis/assessment to prevent any possible damage to themselves, the environment, and humans is fundamental for building and utilizing UAVs. To achieve that, two fundamental challenges should be addressed: i) identification of types and frequency of the issues and ii) assessment of their impact. In this paper, we aim to address the first challenge by automatizing the process of data field analysis. To do so, we first performed some statistical analysis of the reported issues of UAV systems (in Github) and manually extracted detailed data from the reports to better understand the type and nature of the issues. Then, to automatize the analysis, we used natural language processing algorithm to extract the keywords from the reports, and then applied four machine learning algorithms to build classifier models to classify the reports according to the fault category and severity level. The good performance results obtained suggest that these analyzes can be performed to further understand the UAV system issues, and help in the risk assessment procedure to identify the hazard and define the frequency and severity of the risk. Moreover, the results of this work can help a big community of developers and researchers in the precise and fast analysis of bug reports and safety risk assessment of any software system.

The paper authors analyze the safety control systems synthesis problem for critical technological processes on the railway signalling and automation systems. It is shown that modern control systems for complex distributed systems, such as a railway transport system, are not implemented with absolute safety. Such systems safety is limited by considering only their own failures, control systems and their components external failures, as well as infrastructure objects failures that directly interact with control devices. Other infrastructure facilities are not considered in any way during automatic control and data transfer to on-board automation. We presents the theoretical principles for the safety train traffic control system synthesis, considering the capabilities of equipping infrastructure facilities with highly reliable and safe means of technical diagnostics and monitoring. A simplified structure of the central train traffic control complex is given, considering the diagnosing and monitoring results of all transportation process components. The conditions for the completely safety train traffic control systems synthesis are formulated. The tasks going with the safe control system synthesis problem are noted. The railway infrastructure facilities and rolling stock parameters comprehensive accounting will allow reaching a qualitatively higher level of train traffic safety. © 2023 IEEE.

Based on the principles of fuzzy control, a number of structural and system engineering solutions have been developed and researched for the double-loop structure of the electric mode control system of the arc steel furnace (AF) in order to comprehensively improve electromagnetic compatibility indicators. A method of operative real-time synthesis of artificial external characteristics of the arc furnace was created for the implementation of optimal control with the criterion of minimizing fluctuations and deviation of the power grid voltage at the AF connection point. The proposed solutions are aimed at the implementation of the strategy of comprehensive improvement of indicators of electromagnetic compatibility and energy efficiency of the arc furnace and the power grid (PG). A Simulink model of the developed double-loop automatic control system (ACS) of the arc furnace electric modes (EM) and the power grid was created and computer studies were carried out. The obtained research results showed a comprehensive improvement of AF and PG electromagnetic compatibility indicators.

Fabrication of helical flutes on the micro-drill surface by micro-EDM using composite disc foil electrodes

Micro-drills are widely used in the micro-hole machining of printed circuit boards. Helical flutes, the core feature of micro-drills, play a crucial role in chip discharge. Precision grinding technology is commonly used for machining the helical flutes in micro-drills. Grinding is a contact machining technology that generates a grinding force during the process. When the diameter of the micro-drill is minimal (Φ ≤ 100 µm), the grinding force is extremely prone to cause deformation or even fracture of the micro-drill, leading to a decreased yield. To overcome the above problem, the paper proposed an approach to fabricate a helical flute structure on the surface of a micro-drill by micro electrical discharge machining (micro-EDM) using a beryllium-copper-tin composite disc foil electrode (CDFE). Micro-EDM, a type of non-contact machining, can effectively avoid the disadvantage of grinding the helical flute of the micro-drill. Through an orthogonal experiment, the effects of the rotation velocity of the CDFE, machining voltage, and pulse duration ratio on the machining quality of the helical flutes were analysed in detail. Finally, with 4000 r/min CDFE rotation velocity, 24 V machining voltage, 1 µs pulse duration and 3 µs pulse interval, a helical flute structure with a surface roughness Ra of 0.381 µm was successfully machined on the surface of a 70 µm diameter micro-drill. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

This paper deals with the automatic detection of Myotonia from a task based on the sudden opening of the hand. Data have been gathered from 44 subjects, divided into 17 controls and 27 myotonic patients, by measuring a 2-point articulation of each finger thanks to a calibrated sensory glove equipped with a Resistive Flex Sensor (RFS). RFS gloves are proven to be reliable in the analysis of motion for myotonic patients, which is a relevant task for the monitoring of the disease and subsequent treatment. With the focus on a healthy VS pathological comparison, customized features were extracted, and several classifications entailing motion data from single fingers, single articulations and aggregations were prepared. The pipeline employed a Correlation-based feature selector followed by a SVM classifier. Results prove that it’s possible to detect Myotonia, with aggregated data from four fingers and upper/lower articulations providing the most promising accuracies (91.1%).

The article presents an innovative approach to the rehabilitation process for patients with joint endoprosthetics, focusing on the integration of a specialized software module based on computer vision technologies and the ontological approach. Developed for the Federal Centre for Traumatology, Orthopaedics, and Endoprosthesis in Smolensk, Russia, this system is designed to improve the quality of life for patients by offering personalized rehabilitation plans. The core of the study lies in the application of ontological models and meta-associative graphs for synthesizing individual rehabilitation plans, which streamline the recovery process and reduce the workload on healthcare professionals. This method allows for the processing of large amounts of information, providing detailed conclusions and recommendations for functional correction of the musculoskeletal system. The software utilizes computer vision to analyze patient movement and develop tailored rehabilitation strategies, overcoming the limitations of traditional diagnostic tools like MRI, which may not be suitable for all patients. By incorporating artificial intelligence and augmented reality, the system enhances the accuracy of patient assessments and the effectiveness of rehabilitation plans. Furthermore, the article discusses the application of this technology in the educational process at the Belarusian-Russian university, where students are introduced to cutting-edge software tools that assist in creating personalized rehabilitation plans. This educational integration not only enriches the students' learning experience but also fosters innovation in the development of new applications for computer vision in medical rehabilitation. The ontological approach, combined with modern technology, represents a significant advancement in the management of musculoskeletal system diseases, offering a more efficient, personalized approach to rehabilitation and recovery. © 2024 IEEE.

The current trend in the development of non-destructive testing of materials in the building industry is mainly concerned with the detection of flaws and defects in concrete elements and structures, and acoustic methods are prospects in this field. An important indicator of the quality of concrete is strength. However, non-destructive testing methods do not allow direct linking of the electrical characteristics with the strength. In this paper, in the form of a graphical dependence using an electromechanical installation based on experimental studies, the relationship between strength and acoustic impedance is shown.

Investigation of pressure drop in flexible ventilation ducts under different compression ratios and bending angles

Due to the large degree of freedom in terms of design and installation, flexible ventilation ducts are commonly used in ventilation systems. However, excessive use of flexible ducts may lead to greater pressure drop and higher energy consumption. This study conducted experimental measurements to characterize the pressure drop in flexible ventilation ducts with different compression ratios and bending angles. This investigation first measured the pressure drop in straight flexible ducts with four compression ratios under various airflow rates. The calculated friction factor for the straight flexible ducts was negatively associated with the compression ratio. Next, the pressure drops in single-bend flexible ducts with various bending angles from 30° to 150° were measured under various airflow rates. The calculated loss coefficient of the bend increased with the bending angle for single-bend flexible ducts. Finally, the influence of the intermediate duct length on the pressure drop across two bends was experimentally investigated. When the length of the intermediate duct was greater than eight times the inner diameter, the pressure drop across a double-bend flexible duct could be calculated from the friction factors and loss coefficients with a relative error less than 1%. The data obtained in this study can be used to calculate the total pressure loss in flexible ventilation ducting systems in buildings.

Dynamic Programming suffers from the curse of dimensionality due to large state and action spaces, a challenge further compounded by uncertainties in the environment. To mitigate these issue, we explore an off-policy based Temporal Difference Approximate Dynamic Programming approach that preserves contraction mapping when projecting the problem into a subspace of selected features, accounting for the probability distribution of the perturbed transition probability matrix. We further demonstrate how this Approximate Dynamic Programming approach can be implemented as a particular variant of the Temporal Difference learning algorithm, adapted for handling perturbations. To validate our theoretical findings, we provide a numerical example using a Markov Decision Process corresponding to a resource allocation problem. © 2025, CC BY-NC-ND.
