Excitons,bound electron–hole pairs,in two-dimensional hybrid organic inorganic perovskites(2D HOIPs)are capable of forming hybrid light-matter states known as exciton-polaritons(E–Ps)when the excitonic medium is confined in an optical *** the case of 2D HOIPs,they can self-hybridize into E–Ps at specific thicknesses of the HOIP crystals that form a resonant optical cavity with the ***,the fundamental properties of these self-hybridized E–Ps in 2D HOIPs,including their role in ultrafast energy and/or charge transfer at interfaces,remain ***,we demonstrate that>0.5µm thick 2D HOIP crystals on Au substrates are capable of supporting multiple-orders of self-hybridized E–P *** E–Ps have high Q factors(>100)and modulate the optical dispersion for the crystal to enhance sub-gap absorption and *** varying excitation energy and ultrafast measurements,we also confirm energy transfer from higher energy E–Ps to lower energy E–***,we also demonstrate that E–Ps are capable of charge transport and transfer at *** findings provide new insights into charge and energy transfer in E–Ps opening new opportunities towards their manipulation for polaritonic devices.

Lipid-coated microbubbles are widely used as an ultrasound contrast agent,as well as drug delivery ***,the two main limitations in ultrasound diagnosis and drug delivery using microbubbles are the short half-life in the blood system,and the difficulty of surface modification of microbubbles for active *** exosome,a type of extracellular vesicle,has a preferentially targeting ability for its original *** this study,exosome-fused microbubbles(Exo-MBs)were developed by embedding the exosome membrane proteins into *** a result,the stability of Exo-MBs is improved over the conventional *** the same principle that under the exposure of ultrasound,microbubbles are cavitated and self-assembled into nano-sized particles,and Exo-MBs are self-assembled into exosome membrane proteins-embedded nanoparticles(Exo-NPs).The Exo-NPs showed favorable targeting properties to their original cells.A photosensitizer,chlorin e6,was loaded into Exo-MBs to evaluate therapeutic efficacy as a drug *** higher therapeutic efficacy of photodynamic therapy was confirmed,followed by cancer immunotherapy from immunogenic cell *** have therefore developed a novel ultrasound image-guided drug delivery platform that overcomes the shortcomings of the conventional ultrasound contrast agent and is capable of simultaneous photodynamic therapy and cancer immunotherapy.

Improving Performance of Recurrent Neural Networks Using Simulated Annealing for Vertical Wind Speed Estimation

An accurate vertical wind speed(WS)data estimation is required to determine the potential for wind farm *** general,the vertical extrapolation of WS at different heights must consider different parameters fromdifferent locations,such as wind shear coefficient,roughness length,and atmospheric *** novelty presented in this article is the introduction of two steps optimization for the Recurrent Neural Networks(RNN)model to estimate WS at different heights using measurements from lower *** first optimization of the RNN is performed to minimize a differentiable cost function,namely,mean squared error(MSE),using the Broyden-Fletcher-Goldfarb-Shanno ***,the RNN is optimized to reduce a non-differentiable cost function using simulated annealing(RNN-SA),namely mean absolute error(MAE).Estimation ofWS vertically at 50 m height is done by training RNN-SA with the actualWS data a 10–40 m *** estimatedWS at height of 50 m and the measured WS at 10–40 heights are further used to train RNN-SA to obtain WS at 60 m *** procedure is repeated continuously until theWS is estimated at a height of 180 *** RNN-SA performance is compared with the standard RNN,Multilayer Perceptron(MLP),Support Vector Machine(SVM),and state of the art methods like convolutional neural networks(CNN)and long short-term memory(LSTM)networks to extrapolate theWS *** estimated values are also compared with realWS dataset acquired using LiDAR and tested using four error metrics namely,mean squared error(MSE),mean absolute percentage error(MAPE),mean bias error(MBE),and coefficient of determination(R2).The numerical experimental results show that the MSE values between the estimated and actualWS at 180mheight for the RNN-SA,RNN,MLP,and SVM methods are found to be 2.09,2.12,2.37,and 2.63,respectively.

One type of wheeled mobile robot widely used in public transportation and for carrying high payloads is the tractor-Trailer wheeled robots (TTWRs). This study considers a differentially-driven tractor under pure rolling conditions, which is subject to nonholonomic constraints. Controlling a TTWR in both backward and forward motion is challenging due to inherent instability. To address this issue and achieve trajectory tracking control for these systems, this paper employs dynamic feedback linearization (DFL) to overcome the limitations of static feedback linearization (SFL). The system's response will be examined under various trajectories and initial conditions for both forward and backward motion. © 2024 IEEE.

Estimating the homography between two images is crucial for mid- or high-level vision tasks, such as image stitching and fusion. However, using supervised learning methods is often challenging or costly due to the difficulty of collecting ground-truth data. In response, unsupervised learning approaches have emerged. Most early methods, though, assume that the given image pairs are from the same camera or have minor lighting differences. Consequently, while these methods perform effectively under such conditions, they generally fail when input image pairs come from different domains, referred to as multimodal image pairs. To address these limitations, we propose AltO, an unsupervised learning framework for estimating homography in multimodal image pairs. Our method employs a two-phase alternating optimization framework, similar to Expectation-Maximization (EM), where one phase reduces the geometry gap and the other addresses the modality gap. To handle these gaps, we use Barlow Twins loss for the modality gap and propose an extended version, Geometry Barlow Twins, for the geometry gap. As a result, we demonstrate that our method, AltO, can be trained on multimodal datasets without any ground-truth data. It not only outperforms other unsupervised methods but is also compatible with various architectures of homography estimators. The pure squeeze magneto-elastohydrodynamic lubrication (MEHL) motion of point contacts with an electrically conducting fluid in transverse magnetic field on elastic coating is explored under constant load process. The modified Reynolds, the rheology, the force balance, and the elastic deformation equations must be solved simultaneously to obtain the transient pressure profiles, film shapes, elastic deformation, and normal squeeze velocities. The differences between classical EHL and MEHL are discussed during the pure squeeze process. The simulation results reveal that the effect of externally applied magnetic field is equivalent to enhancing the effective lubricant viscosity. Therefore, as the Hartmann number (M) increases, the effect becomes more obvious. The larger the Hartmann number, the thicker the central film thickness and minimum film thickness, the smaller the maximum central pressure, the later the maximum central pressure and the dimple are formed, the smaller the central normal squeeze velocity. The central pressure decreases with increasing M at the initial stage. The central pressure increases with increasing M at the deformation stage. © 2022, Chinese Mechanical engineering Society. This paper presents a novel approach to estimate and compensate for the misalignment between the Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) and Doppler Velocity Log (DVL) sensors. Estimating the location and attitude of an ROV usually combines the attitude by IMU and the velocity by the DVL provided in the sensor coordinate system. The attitude is regarded as the attitude of the ROV and the velocity in the sensor coordinate frame is converted to the velocity in the inertial coordinate frame. Misalignment in the DVL and IMU causes errors in the converted velocity and results in the degradation of the navigation performance. The proposed method represents the misalignment using unit quaternion. Especially, the method utilizes the Lie theory to deal with the operations on unit quaternions which constitute a Lie group, called the 3-sphere group. Simulation and testing of the method in a marine environment validate its effectiveness and practical applicability. © 2023 ICROS.

The features present in large datasets significantly affect the performance of machine learning models. Redundant and irrelevant features will be rejected and cause a decrease in machine learning model performance. This paper proposes HyFeS-ROS-ANN: Hybrid Feature Selection and Resampling combination method for binary classification using artificial neural network multilayer perceptron (MLP). The first stage of this approach is to use a combination of two feature selection methods to select essential features that are highly correlated with model performance. The second stage of this approach is to use a combination of resampling methods to handle unbalanced data classes. Both approaches are applied to the academic performance classification model using the MLP neural network. This research dataset is obtained using three-dimensional (3D) frameworks such as the Big Five Personality to determine the Personality that affects academic performance from the student dimension, the Family Influence Scale (FIS), which measures factors that affect academic performance from the family dimension, and Higher Education Institutions Service Quality (HEISQUAL) to measure service quality and its influence on academic performance from the Education institution dimension. Previous research shows that the CoR-ANN algorithm has a model accuracy rate of 94%. The research results based on the dataset show that our proposed method can improve accuracy by selecting more relevant and essential features in improving model performance. The results show that the features are reduced from 135 to 108, while the HyFS-ROS-ANN model for binary classification accuracy increases to 100%. © 2023, Brno University of Technology. Impact of Building Design and Operating Strategies on Urban Heat Island Effects Part II: Sensitivity Analysis

This study investigates the mutual thermal interactions between buildings and the microclimate within urban area centers. Buildings are the primary energy consumers in cities, and one of the main causes of the urban heat island (UHI) formation. In this article, a flexible simulation environment is developed and used to model the mutual thermal interactions between building energy systems and their urban surroundings in Phoenix, AZ, characterized by its hot climate. The impacts of various operating strategies for both commercial and residential buildings are assessed on both UHI effects and energy consumption. Specifically, the study evaluates the impacts of indoor temperature settings, precooling strategies, and air infiltration/exfiltration rates. It has been found that heat rejected by air conditioning systems significantly impacts UHI formation in urban centers located in hot climates. Specifically, commercial buildings were found to cause more UHI effects than residential buildings due to higher cooling loads. The impacts of heat rejected from heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems are found to be more dominant than that from air exfiltration on the microclimate of urban centers. For urban center made up of commercial buildings with a street aspect ratio of 2, heat from air exfiltration is estimated to be as low as 10% of the heat rejected by HVAC systems. Complex Emotion Estimation Using Analysis-by-Synthesis of Facial Expression Images

This research proposes an approach for recognizing facial expressions for complex emotion estimation through the utilization of generated facial images. The proposed approach consists of two main parts: facial image generation and facial expression recognition. In the first part, we introduce Conditioned Emotion Generative Adversarial Networks (cEmoGANs) to synthesize images that convey complex facial expressions. Unlike previous methods, our generative model maintains face identity information and expresses various types of complex emotions. This capability encourages the generator to have control over the image generation process, resulting in enhanced image quality, reduced distortion, and increased diversity of generated images. The second part involves the design of a multiple-label classification based on a convolutional neural network trained on the complex facial expression images generated from the first part, which is employed in the recognition of complex facial expressions for emotion estimation. Our model, using images generated by cEmoGANs, demonstrates a notable performance surpassing the capabilities of the previous models in comparative evaluations. © 2013 IEEE.
