Estimating the homography between two images is crucial for mid- or high-level vision tasks, such as image stitching and fusion. However, using supervised learning methods is often challenging or costly due to the difficulty of collecting ground-truth data. In response, unsupervised learning approaches have emerged. Most early methods, though, assume that the given image pairs are from the same camera or have minor lighting differences. Consequently, while these methods perform effectively under such conditions, they generally fail when input image pairs come from different domains, referred to as multimodal image *** address these limitations, we propose AltO, an unsupervised learning framework for estimating homography in multimodal image pairs. Our method employs a two-phase alternating optimization framework, similar to Expectation-Maximization (EM), where one phase reduces the geometry gap and the other addresses the modality gap. To handle these gaps, we use Barlow Twins loss for the modality gap and propose an extended version, Geometry Barlow Twins, for the geometry gap. As a result, we demonstrate that our method, AltO, can be trained on multimodal datasets without any ground-truth data. It not only outperforms other unsupervised methods but is also compatible with various architectures of homography estimators. The source code can be found at: https://***/songsang7/AltO

This study presents a more accurate evaluation method for assessing ankle spasticity compared to conventional goniometric techniques by utilizing measurements obtained from Inertial Measurement Units (IMU) and surface electromyography (sEMG) devices. Integrating IMU and EMG sensors provides substantial benefits for accurately determining the range of motion (ROM) associated with spasticity during targeted movements. In this study, the proposed method provides precise measurement and an objective evaluation of onset time detection of antagonistic muscle co-contraction, and accordingly the ROM of the actuated joint. Moreover, the implementation of cost-effective wearable sensors enables the monitoring of muscle spasticity in clinical environments and can be particularly valuable in regions with limited access to experienced therapists, providing a more efficient approach to tracking spasticity levels. © 2024 IEEE.

Organizations face an urgent need to become faster, more efficient, and more successful in their commercial operations, given the current state of technological evolution and the arrival of Industry 4.0. Many businesses have adopted the idea of enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to achieve this goal. The ERP system is expected to increase worker productivity, improve business performance to maximize profitability and profits, and provide accurate and up-to-date data and information to management and stakeholders. This research aims to find new variables related to integration problems in the use of ERP systems. Using the SPSS statistical program, the data collected will be examined using quantitative exploratory factor analysis (EFA). Data processing then includes collecting demographic information from respondents, reliability testing, conducting the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) test, testing using an anti-image matrix, and deriving new factors using a rotation component matrix. This research seeks to identify new elements underlying ongoing integration problems in ERP system implementation. The research results show several reasons for underlying integration problems and offer in-depth information to management that can be used to analyze and evaluate the ERP system in their company appropriately in the future so that the company's performance becomes superior to the competition. © 2024 IEEE.

The manufacturing sector is of paramount importance to a nation’s economy, as it creates employment opportunities, fosters innovation and enhances the competitive advantage in global markets. With the introduction of smart manufacturing technologies, the manufacturing sector has been able to boost its production performance, however, there is a skill gap that the manufacturing sector is facing when it comes to hiring a trained workforce. The US National Strategy for Advanced Manufacturing has underlined the importance of training an advanced manufacturing workforce with an opportunity to support historically underrepresented and underserved communities. We report the outcomes of a manufacturing training certificate program that is designed to provide equitable opportunities for high-quality, industry-relevant training that can lead to sustainable employment and economic growth. A holistic curriculum was developed to teach manufacturing education including CAD, CAM, 3D printing, AR/VR technologies, robotics and automation, assembly and production lines, and measurement systems. We report the outcomes of two cohorts that graduated in Summer 2023 and Fall 2023, in which a total of 86 training sessions were conducted. Twenty-five students enrolled and 17 students (14 males and 3 females) graduated across the two cohorts - among the graduates 47% identified as Hispanic or Latino, 41% identified as African American, and the rest identified as non-white/Hispanic;16 of the graduates belonged to the low-to-middle income category. In the future, the program can be further expanded to include on the job training opportunities with local employers. We also provide recommendations to improve the learning experience of the students and enhance participation in the program. © 2024 American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Coffee has become an important part of any individual nowadays. The purpose of this study is to determine the marketing strategy for the coffee shops. This study uses several coffee attributes such as coffee type, sugar level, temperature, coffee beans, and frappe were analyzed by utilizing a conjoint approach. A questionnaire was utilized for this research which collected 500 respondents. Conjoint analysis showed that sugar level was the most important coffee attribute (43.013%), followed by temperature (37.75%), coffee type (14.701%), coffee beans (2.601%), and frappe (1.936%). Interestingly, cold cappuccino with Arabica coffee bean, less sugar, and with frappe was found to be the best combination for marketing strategy. This study can be utilized for developing the marketing strategy of coffee shops. By Understanding the relationship between the factors, coffee shops can find out which factors influence customers the most. © 2023 IEEE.

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) is widely used in electrochemistry, energy sciences, biology, and beyond. Analyzing EIS data is crucial, but it often poses challenges because of the numerous possible equivalent circuit models, the need for accurate analytical models, the difficulties of nonlinear regression, and the necessity of managing large datasets within a unified framework. To overcome these challenges, non-parametric models, such as the distribution of relaxation times (DRT, also known as the distribution function of relaxation times, DFRT), have emerged as promising tools for EIS analysis. For example, the DRT can be used to generate equivalent circuit models, initialize regression parameters, provide a time-domain representation of EIS spectra, and identify electrochemical processes. However, mastering the DRT method poses challenges as it requires mathematical and programming proficiency, which may extend beyond experimentalists’ usual expertise. Post-inversion analysis of DRT data can be difficult, especially in accurately identifying electrochemical processes, leading to results that may not always meet expectations. This article examines non-parametric EIS analysis methods, outlining their strengths and limitations from theoretical, computational, and end-user perspectives, and provides guidelines for their future development. Moreover, insights from survey data emphasize the need to develop a large impedance database, akin to an impedance genome. In turn, software development should target one-click, fully automated DRT analysis for multidimensional EIS spectra interpretation, software validation, and reliability. Particularly, creating a collaborative ecosystem hinged on free software could promote innovation and catalyze the adoption of the DRT method throughout all fields that use impedance data. © 2024 Elsevier Inc.

This study aimed to examine the factors influencing the acceptance of eLearning platforms in medical education during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines, using the latent variables from the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2) and two additional variables derived from relevant literature. A total of 360 medical students participated by completing an online survey comprising 40 questions. The analysis, conducted using stepwise multiple linear regression, revealed that Performance Expectancy (PE), Habit (HB), and Instructor Characteristics (IC) were significant predictors of Actual Use (AU) with an accuracy of 54.22%. Higher levels of PE, HB, and IC were found to positively influence the acceptance and utilization of medical eLearning platforms. The findings from this study can provide valuable insights for the Commission on Higher Education in the Philippines, aiding in the enhancement of eLearning platforms for medical education. Although this research primarily focused on UTAUT2 and two additional variables-Learning Value and Instructor Characteristics-the results offer substantial implications for the broader development of eLearning platforms in the medical field. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper proposes a framework for oversampling the minority mitotic patterns of the HEp-2 cell images. The classification of mitotic vs. non-mitotic (interphase) cell patterns is important for validating the Indirect Immunofluorescence on Human Epithelial Type-2 cell-substrate (IIF HEp-2) protocol, which is the "gold standard"test for diagnosing autoimmune diseases. Typically, the mitotic cells appear in the HEp-2 specimen image in a significantly less number than the interphases. This causes difficulty in adopting deep learning approaches to classify mitotic vs. interphase patterns with such high imbalanced data. This work suggests using One-Dimensional Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Networks (1D-DCGAN) for oversampling the minority mitotic patterns in the feature space of the Deep Cross Residual Network (DCRNet) to cope with the data skewness problem. The results demonstrated that the proposed approach improves the classification performance over the UQ-SNP I3A Task-3 mitotic cell dataset with the advantage of using an end-to-end CNN classifier. © 2022 IEEE.

Assessment of Dynamic Photovoltaic Shading systems on Energy Performance of Commercial Buildings

In this paper, the energy benefits of dynamic photovoltaic (PV)-integrated overhang systems are evaluated for office buildings. The benefits of dynamic PV-integrated overhangs combined energy efficiency by decreasing both heating and cooling energy demand and on-site renewable power generation by deploying tracking PV panels. The energy performance of dynamic PV-integrated overhangs is considered for various design and operation conditions. Specifically, the impacts of various design features are considered such as overhang depth, window size, glazing type, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system type. Moreover, the effects of operating conditions are assessed including the location of the building and the control strategy of the dynamic PV-integrated systems such as load-tracking, demand-tracking, and PV-tracking. The results of the various analyses indicate that the heating and cooling energy demands of the dynamic overhangs are mostly affected by the window glazing type and window overhang depths. The analysis shows that the use of demand-tracking maximizes the energy performance of the dynamic PV-integrated overhangs when deployed to US office buildings. Copyright © 2022 by ASME.
