Today, integrating hydrogen and renewable technologies has become necessary to reach a reliable and economical energy system for modern cities. This paper introduces a design optimization and analysis model for a power-to-hydrogen-to-power (P2H2P)-based multi-energy microgrid (MEµG). The system is proposed to meet the power, heat, and residents-owned electric vehicle charging demands of the hypothetical apartment building in Saudi Arabia. The proposed system comprises a solar PV, wind turbine, battery, fuel cell, electrolyzer, hydrogen storage, and gas boiler. The P2H2P-MEµG was modelled, simulated, and optimized with an objective function to minimize the system lifecycle cost and maximize the renewable energy penetration, considering various system operation constraints. Numerical results enable the optimal capacity sizing and thorough investigation of the positive impacts of P2H2P on operational, economic, and environmental indices of the MEµG compared with other energy system alternatives. © 2023 IEEE.

A text encoder within Vision-Language Models (VLMs) like CLIP plays a crucial role in translating textual input into an embedding space shared with images, thereby facilitating the interpretative analysis of vision tasks through natural language. Despite the varying significance of different textual elements within a sentence depending on the context, efforts to account for variation of importance in constructing text embeddings have been lacking. We propose a framework of Semantic Token Reweighting to build Interpretable text embeddings (SToRI), which incorporates controllability as well. SToRI refines the text encoding process in CLIP by differentially weighting semantic elements based on contextual importance, enabling finer control over emphasis responsive to data-driven insights and user preferences. The efficacy of SToRI is demonstrated through comprehensive experiments on few-shot image classification and image retrieval tailored to user preferences. © 2024 Association for Computational Linguistics.

Portfolio selection is an important part of investment management that aims to select the right combination of assets to achieve an optimal risk-return ratio. This study integrates the Mean-Variance Theory utilizing the 30-year historical returns of the Philippine Stock Exchange. Three subsectors of the Industrial Sector were used as the investment pool. The back-test results showed that the Mean-Variance portfolios of selected subsectors can outperform the industrial sector and not the market. Stakeholders must be cautious when investing in these three subsectors, considering the values obtained from the simulations. There are recommended portfolio selections wherein companies have a specific allocation that investors and financial managers can use whenever they decide to invest in these subsectors. Overall, this study offers a framework for investors to use as a guide in diversifying their stakes in the Philippine Stock Exchange. © 2024 IEEE.

Detection of unknown but concerned objects such as diverse unknown suspicious objects in the sea area is a critical problem in military defense applications, but the problem is challenging because 1) a pre-trained detector cannot easily detect unknown but concerned objects, 2) it detects too many unconcerned objects such as usual objects in the coastal land area, and 3) we cannot easily establish a well-performing discriminator to divide the detected objects into unknown and known objects, as well as concerned and unconcerned objects because the unknown objects are not available, whereas the concerned and unconcerned objects are not clearly defined. To tackle this challenge, this paper proposes a real-time framework for unknown but concerned object detection in maritime environments by integrating object detection, segmentation, and out-of-distribution (OOD) detection techniques. In our framework, an object detector finds all object-like foregrounds by setting a low threshold and a segmentation deep-learning network filters out unconcerned foregrounds detected in the coastal land area. After that, to discriminate known or unknown objects among concerned objects detected in the sea area, a discriminator performs unsupervised OOD detection using bisecting K-means clustering. To boost the performance of the proposed framework, we apply a pre-processing scheme and a contrastive separation loss for segmentation. The proposed framework achieves a high detection rate of unknown but concerned objects with minimal detection of unconcerned objects (i.e., minimal false positives), surpassing baseline methods and demonstrating potential for enhanced maritime safety and security. Many Internet protocol (IP) lookup algorithms have been formulated to improve network performance. This study reviewed and experimentally evaluated technologies for trie-based methods that reduce memory access, memory consumption and IP lookup time. Experiments involving binary tries (for simplicity) were conducted on four real-world data sets, two of which were on IPv4 router tables (855,997 and 876,489 active prefixes) and two of which were on IPv6 router tables (155,310 and 157,579 active prefixes). Technologies designed to reduce time taken (at the expense of memory consumption) worked well for IPv4, and those designed to reduce memory consumption worked well for IPv6. Various combinations of these technologies were applied together in the experiments. © 2022 Elsevier Inc.

Modern design of nuclear facilities represents unique challenges: enabling the design of complex advanced concepts, supporting geographically dispersed teams, and supporting first-of-a-kind system development. Errors made early in design can introduce silent errors. These errors can cascade causing unknown risk of complex engineering programs. The Versatile Test Reactor (VTR) program uses digital-engineering principles for design, procurement, construction, and operation to reduce risk and improve efficiencies. Digital engineering is an integrated, model-based approach which connects proven digital tools such as building information management (BIM), project controls, and systems-engineering software tools into a cohesive environment. The VTR team hypothesizes using these principals can lead to similar risk and cost reductions and schedule efficiencies observed in other engineering industries. This research investigates the use of a digital engineering ecosystem in the design of a 300-MWt sodium-cooled fast reactor. This ecosystem was deployed to over 200 engineers and used to deliver the conceptual design of the VTR. We conclude that initial results show significant reductions in user latency (1000x at peak use), the possibility of direct finite-element-analysis (FEA) integrations to computer-aided design (CAD) tools, and nuclear reactor system design descriptions (SDDs) that we can fully link throughout design in data-driven requirements-management software. Location Detection Technology (LDT), which accurately estimates the location of a mobile station (MS), is one of core techniques for the modern communication system. Among various LDTs, Time of arrival (TOA) and Time Difference of Arrival (TDOA) are the most commonly employed method, which calculates the location of MS based on at least three signals from base stations (BSs). In the urban environment, many repeaters have been installed for overcoming the radio shadow area problem of a receiver, but they cause the serious errors of the location estimation when we utilize signals passed through repeaters. In order to enhance this problem, in this paper, we introduce the combined location estimation approach with TDOA and TOA considering the repeater, based on signals from two repeaters and one BS.

Osteochondral tissue is a highly specialized and complex tissue composed of articular cartilage and subchondral bone that are separated by a calcified cartilage *** or gradient scaffolds,often in conjunction with stem cells and growth factors,have been developed to mimic the respective layers for osteochondral defect *** this study,we designed a hyaline cartilage-hypertrophic cartilage bilayer graft(RGD/RGDW)with ***,we demonstrated that RGD peptide-modified chondroitin sulfate cryogel(RGD group)is chondro-conductive and capable of hyaline cartilage ***,we incorporated whitlockite(WH),a Mg^(2+)-containing calcium phosphate,into RGD cryogel(RGDW group)to induce chondrocyte hypertrophy and form collagen X-rich hypertrophic *** is the first study to use WH to produce hypertrophic ***-laden RGDW cryogel exhibited significantly upregulated expression of hypertrophy markers in vitro and formed ectopic hypertrophic cartilage in vivo,which mineralized into calcified cartilage in bone ***,RGD cryogel and RGDW cryogel were combined into bilayer(RGD/RGDW group)and implanted into rabbit osteochondral defect,where RGD layer supports hyaline cartilage regeneration and bioceramic-containing RGDW layer promotes calcified cartilage *** the RGD group(monolayer)formed hyaline-like neotissue that extends into the subchondral bone,the RGD/RGDW group(bilayer)regenerated hyaline cartilage tissue confined to its respective layer and promoted osseointegration for integrative defect repair.

In today’s scenario of increasing energy prices, new legislations, and rising consumer concerns regarding environmental issues, industries face an unprecedented challenge of reducing their energy consumption without negatively impacting their profit and productivity. Based on this, companies are focusing on analyzing their energy efficiency, which has various criteria to be considered, and at least three organizational levels. To close this gap, this study developed an industrial energy efficiency assessment and prioritization model based on energy assessment literature. It utilized multi-criteria analysis for the prioritization of industrial energy efficiency measures. To achieve the goal, a literature review was conducted to map relevant energy efficiency practices from which an industrial energy efficiency assessment tool was developed through the lens of three organizational levels (plant, process, and machine). Subsequently, an energy-efficiency project prioritization tool was proposed using the multi-criteria PROMETHEE II method. The assessment and prioritization model was applied to an energy industry for refinement. It generated an overview of the company’s energy efficiency maturity and a ranking of the most recommended measures for the optimal use of energy resources according to established criteria and their weights. Four subcategories (lighting, HVAC systems, compressed air, and motors) were analyzed for the organizational levels, and lighting presented the higher result of a maturity of 2.77 on a scale from 0 to 3, also the maturity of the company was 2.01, which means that is still space for improvement. The improvements were highlighted according to each subcategory studied, pointing to actions that needed to be developed to improve energy efficiency. © 2023, Aalborg University press. This paper presents a robust integral sliding mode controller for trajectory following of a six degrees of freedom underwater vehicle. Sliding mode controller is robust to bounded external disturbances caused by ocean currents, parametric uncertainties, and inevitable modeling errors;but, it is prone to chattering phenomenon. Thus, to address this problem, we proposed an integral sliding mode controller. The controller was designed, and its stability was checked using a Lyapunov approach. The proposed controller was implemented using MATLAB/Simulink® software. A simulation results were presented, and also, its performance was compared with the conventional sliding mode controller. The proposed controller has been observed to effectively drive the vehicle along the desired trajectory, while also reducing the chattering effect when compared to the conventional sliding mode controller.
