Generative adversarial networks (GANs) with clustered latent spaces can perform conditional generation in a completely unsupervised manner. In the real world, the salient attributes of unlabeled data can be imbalanced. However, most of existing unsupervised conditional GANs cannot cluster attributes of these data in their latent spaces properly because they assume uniform distributions of the attributes. To address this problem, we theoretically derive Stein latent optimization that provides reparameterizable gradient estimations of the latent distribution parameters assuming a Gaussian mixture prior in a continuous latent space. Structurally, we introduce an encoder network and novel unsupervised conditional contrastive loss to ensure that data generated from a single mixture component represent a single attribute. We confirm that the proposed method, named Stein Latent Optimization for GANs (SLOGAN), successfully learns balanced or imbalanced attributes and achieves state-of-the-art unsupervised conditional generation performance even in the absence of attribute information (e.g., the imbalance ratio). Moreover, we demonstrate that the attributes to be learned can be manipulated using a small amount of probe data. © 2022 ICLR 2022 - 10th International Conference on Learning Representationss. Motion planning is a complicated task that requires the combination of perception, map information integration and prediction, particularly when driving in heavy traffic. Developing an extensible and efficient representation that visualizes sensor noise and provides basis to real-time planning tasks is desirable. We aim to develop an interpretable map representation, which offers prior of driving cost in planning tasks. In this way, we can simplify the planning process for dealing with complex driving scenarios and visualize sensor noise. Specifically, we propose a unified context representation empowered by deep neural networks. The unified representation is a differentiable risk field, which is an analytical representation of statistical cognition regarding traffic participants for downstream planning tasks. This representation method is nominated as RiskMap. A sampling-based planner is adopted to train and compare RiskMap generation methods. In this paper, the RiskMap generation tools and model structures are explored, the results illustrate that our method can improve driving safety and smoothness, and the limitation of our method is also discussed. © 2024 IEEE.

This study investigates the application of Machine Learning (ML) to reduce the inherent computational burden in Multiple Impedance Control (MIC) for robotic systems. Impedance Control (IC) is a powerful method for robots to interact with their environment by simultaneously controlling position and force. However, the increasing complexity of control methods such as MIC requires more and more complex computations, which can lead to problems such as increased response time and reduced efficiency in the control system, making implementation on the controller impractical. To address this challenge, this paper proposes a new ML-based method called ML-MIC. This method aims to reduce the computational complexity associated with MIC using ML techniques, thereby improving the efficiency and speed of robotic control systems. The development of ML-MIC not only leads to improved control system performance but also enables more effective implementation of robotic and mechatronic systems.

Neurodegenerative disease is a growing global problem. Many of these diseases such as Parkinson's disease can cause grip strength weakness. In this work, we focused on developing an e-Textile based EMG acquisition system interfaced with an adaptive VR game engine for detecting hand squeeze actions. We prototyped and performed preliminary tests on a grip detection system consisting of: 1) an e-Textile forearm band (E-band), 2) a portable data acquisition module (DAM), and 3) an adaptive 3D VR game engine. Digital health solutions such as our VRGrip system widen the scope of in-home rehabilitation and assessment, and we aimed to make the first step in creating a system for grip strength rehabilitation. To validate our concept, we performed preliminary tests. These tests revealed that the Bluetooth communication protocol between DAM and the game engine was reliable, that the adaptive game engine successfully tailors the game's difficulty level to the user's performance, and that the system was reliable at detecting hand squeezes (F=0.96). © 2023 IEEE.

Energy supply and demand are at the core of one of the pressing problems worldwide as the present energy production is still dominated by non-renewable resources. The need to meet the goals for the climate has motivated the energy sector to embrace cleaner and greener electro-energy systems. Proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells, also known as polymer-electrolyte membrane fuel cells, have lately attracted more attention from various sectors due to their exceptional advantages, including high theoretical efficiency, low operating temperatures, and low-to-zero emissions. Therefore, they can be successfully used in a variety of applications. Hence, a novel membrane that possesses adequate proton conductivity is required. Therefore, in this work, MXene was investigated as a potential proton conductor. MXene/PVDF based membrane was synthesized with different concentrations 3, 5, 8, 10, 13 and 15 wt.% respectively, and evaluated for their proton conduction using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The values of the conductivity obtained were:3.22× x10- 3, 6.2× x10-3, 0.025, 0.041, 3.77×10-3 and 4.2 ×10-3 S/cm, respectively. The results of this study show that the synthesized membranes in this work appear to be promising for PEM fuel cells applications. © 2023 Computers and Industrial engineering. All rights reserved.

As the end-users increasingly can provide flexibility to the power system, it is important to consider how this flexibility can be activated as a resource for the grid. Electricity network tariffs is one option that can be used to activate this flexibility. Therefore, by designing efficient grid tariffs, it might be possible to reduce the total costs in the power system by incentivizing a change in consumption patterns. This paper provides a methodology for optimal grid tariff design under decentralized decision-making and uncertainty in demand, power prices, and renewable generation. A bilevel model is formulated to adequately describe the interaction between the end-users and a distribution system operator. In addition, a centralized decision-making model is provided for benchmarking purposes. The bilevel model is reformulated as a mixed-integer linear problem solvable by branch-and-cut techniques. Results based on both deterministic and stochastic settings are presented and discussed. The findings suggest how electricity grid tariffs should be designed to provide an efficient price signal for reducing aggregate network peaks.

Traditional organizational strategy is meant to create change from how your customers think you rationalize sales and support to what your customers and you need. By fostering a sense of stability, providing consensus view, directing resources, and controlling activities, strategic planning is an expected cornerstone in modern organizations. Over the past eighty years, goal-driven strategies have led digital transformations to unlock new markets, enhanced value-driven revenues, and created a closer kinship between customers and providers. While one presumes goal-driven strategies are best practice for digital transformation, this article explores knowledge paths as an alternative approach. Habitual, emotional, associative, rule-based, and knowledge paradigms do not require embedded goals. Using a systems approach that clarifies the ontological differences between influences and objects, we propose a new explanation for limiting goal-directed strategies. Applying a mapping function that relates functional performance to loss, we construct a novel dataset allowing us to compare like kind results of goals and knowledge-path strategies. These findings offer organizations, with strong identities and experienced management teams, rapid integration of digitally transformed processes into a comprehensive business model. We illustrate how data (rather than process) organizes product/service competition and objectifies purchasing behaviors. © 2022 PICMET.

The COVID-19 pandemic is undoubtedly causing new habits that will affect several sectors around the world. The hotel business has taken a significant impact as a result of the physical distance regulation. Although numerous health and safety measures have been developed to ensure health and economic balance, there are still many variables to learn. Further, tiny businesses, such as budget hotels, must consider carefully about protocols and economic aspects. The current study is based on a review of the global academic literature on Budget Hotel scientometric analysis of the post-COVID-19 pandemic epidemic. The literature was collected from the Scopus database between 2020 and 2022. The study gathered 97 Scopus-indexed papers. The findings revealed that the most affordable hotel is examined as the highest category by journal publications on business management topics. The United States dominated further research origins, and the year 2020 is the largest research number. The visual mapping produces eight large groupings. Surprisingly, COVID-19 and pandemics are rarely investigated. Furthermore, just a few countries and cities were investigated. More crucially, merely a few chats about the cheap hotel in 2022, when the vaccines are distributed internationally, opens the door to a vast range of research prospects. The report includes other recommendations. © 2023 ACM.

This study provides a modified Bass model to deal with trend curves for basic issues of relevance to individuals from all over the world, for which we collected 16 data sets from 2004 to 2022 and that are available on Google servers as "google trends". It was discovered that the Bass model did not forecast well for curves that have a mono peak with a sharp decrease to some level then have semi-stable with small decrement sales for a long time, thus a new parameter based on r1 and r2 (ratios of average sales) was introduced, which improved the model's prediction ability and provided better results. The model was also applied to a data set taken from the Kaggle website about a subscriber digital product offering for financial services that includes newsletters, webinars, and investment recommendations. The data contain 508932 data points about the products sold during 2016-2022. Compared to the traditional Bass model, the modified model showed better results in dealing with this condition, as the expected curve shape was closer to real sales, and the sum of squares error (SSE) value was reduced to a ratio ranging between (36.35-79.3%). Therefore, the improved model can be relied upon in these conditions. © 2023 Computers and Industrial engineering. All rights reserved.
