The cardiac muscle is elastic and deformable. Pushing a catheter in contact with the cardiac muscle surface to conduct focal energy-based ablative therapies, such as RF ablation, requires an adequate electrode-tissue contact surface to transfer the energy to the target site. In this regard, the relationship between the contact force (CF) and the resulting mechanical response is still unclear, in particular, the insertion depth (ID) and the diameter of the surface deformation. The objective of this study was to quantify these relationships using an ex vivo model and a computational model. A rigid bar with a 2.3 mm diameter blunt tip (mimicking a 7Fr standard ablation catheter) was placed at a perpendicular orientation on a fragment of the porcine heart. CF values ranged from 10 to 80g. We used ANSYS to build a Mooney-Rivlig model of 3 parameters based on hyperelastic material and to simulate the same conditions as in the experiments. The experimental results showed a strong linear correlation between CF and insertion depth ID ( $\mathrm{R}^{2}=0.97, \mathrm{P} < 0.001$ ), from $0.7 \pm 0.3$ mm at 10 gto $6.9 \pm 0.1$ mm at 80 g. We also found a strong linear correlation between CF and minor and major diameters of the surface deformation assessed, from $4.0 \pm 0.4$ mm at 20 g to $10.3 \pm 0.0$ mm at 80 g ( $\mathrm{R}^{2}=0.96$ ), and from $6.4 \pm 0.7$ mm at 20 g to $16.7 \pm 0.1$ mm at 80 g ( $\mathrm{R}^{2}=0.95$ ), respectively. A descent gradient algorithm was used to minimize the mean square error (MSE) between the experimental and computational results of ID for the 10 values of CF. After trying different combinations for the3 parameters of the Mooney-Rivlig model, an optimal fit was achieved after 5 iterations, with an error of less than 0.55 mm for ID. This same mode was then used to predict the diameter of the surface deformation, obtaining an error of less than 0.65 mm. The results confirm that a Mooney-Rivlig model of three parameters based on

Tunable Multimodal Guided Surface Lattice Resonances in Index-Discontinuous Environments

Surface lattice resonances (SLRs) in metasurfaces are promising in applications of sub-wavelength devices, owning properties such as high quality (high-Q) factors, large local field enhancement and extensive long-range interaction. The tunable peak position and multimodal resonances of SLRs further enhance their appeal for flexible and multi-wavelength light-matter interactions. Despite these advantages, the realization of tunable multimodal SLRs often requires reconfiguring the lattices, leading to limited tunability. Furthermore, current high-Q SLR implementations necessitate a homogeneous dielectric environment, restricting potential applications such as biosensors that are typically operated in an aqueous or air cladding on a substrate. Here we present guided-SLRs (gSLRs), which are easily accessible in index-discontinuous environments while retaining the multimodal property and straightforward tunability of mode number, resonance wavelengths and mode coupling strengths. The gSLRs are achieved by coupling the scattered light from metasurface units into a slab waveguide, creating a light propagating channel in the lattice plane within an index-asymmetric environment. Tailoring the radiation pattern of individual units with guided transverse electric (TE) and transverse magnetic (TM) modes, multimodal resonances in both orthogonal and parallel coupling directions are accomplished. The mode number and resonance wavelengths can be easily controlled by adjusting the waveguide configuration, while the mode coupling strength is tuned by the vertical position of lattices in the slab. Further shift of the multimodal gSLRs from visible to near-infrared is achieved by introducing a gold backplane. The easy-to-access, flexibly tunable and multimodal gSLRs in inhomogeneous media offer a promising solution to advancing the realization of ultrathin and ultracompact nano-optical and optoelectronic devices. Tracking-in-range Formulations for Numerical Optimal Control

In contrast to set-point tracking which aims to reduce the tracking error between the tracker and the reference, tracking-in-range problems only focus on whether the tracker is within a given range around the reference, making it more suitable for the mission specifications of many practical applications. In this work, we present novel optimal control formulations to solve tracking-in-range problems, for both problems requiring the tracker to be always in range, and problems allowing the tracker to go out of range to yield overall better outcomes. As the problem naturally involves discontinuous functions, we present alternative formulations and regularisation strategies to improve the performance of numerical solvers. The extension to in-range tracking with multiple trackers and in-range tracking in high dimensional space are also discussed and illustrated with numerical examples, demonstrating substantial increases in mission duration in comparison to traditional set-point tracking. Understanding the dynamics of domain walls in ferroelectrics is critical both for fundamental reasons of studying interfacial dynamics in disordered media, as well as practical engineering of metastable states with enhanced properties. Piezo response force microscopy (PFM) enables both imaging and writing of ferroelectric domain walls via a biased scanning probe. However, control over positioning of individual domain wall segments to engineer domain wall structures over large areas reproducibly, and particularly, quantification of associated mechanisms remains challenging. Here, we present a reinforcement learning based experimental workflow deployed on an autonomous PFM platform that enables automated data collection of domain walls interacting with pinning sites. The autonomous experiment is used to construct a physics-informed surrogate model of local domain wall response in response to applied electric fields by the PFM tip in prototypical (110) PbTiO 3 thin films, and the results are further verified using phase-field simulations. The surrogate enables generation of ‘phase diagrams’ of the domain wall, conditional on initial structure. Subsequently, reinforcement learning is used to optimize tip-modification trajectories for obtaining desired domain wall structures in simulated environments utilizing the surrogate model for the environment dynamics. This workflow shows how automated data collection and autonomous agents can be orchestrated towards realizing domain wall manipulations with precision in scanning probe studies, and how such surrogates can aid in understanding domain wall interactions in ferroelectrics.

Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) possess significant potential for contributing to clean energy pro-duction. The challenge of accurately modeling their polarization curves and understanding their operational characteristics has attracted great attention from researchers. This paper applies two meta-heuristic optimization techniques, namely, the dung beetle optimizer (DBO) and the rapidly exploring random tree optimization (RRTO) algorithm, to determine the unknown parameters critical for precise PEMFC modeling. The robustness of these techniques is evaluated using two different commercial PEMFC stacks under varying operating conditions. In this problem, the objective function is represented by the sum of squared errors (SSE), quantifying the discrepancy between the experimentally measured data and the outcomes produced using the estimated parameters. Also, A thorough statistical analysis incorporating various indices has been conducted to validate the robustness of the proposed approaches. A comprehensive comparison with well-known optimization strategies confirms that the DBO consis-tently achieves superior accuracy and convergence speed across all cases. The polarization curves obtained using DBO and RRTO closely align with the experimental data, confirming the robustness of these methods. Notably, the DBO outperforms all compared algorithms, establishing itself as the most effective PEMFC parameter estimation and optimization tool.

The implementation of titanium dioxide (TiO2) as a photocatalyst material in hydrogen (H2) evolution reaction (HER) has embarked renewed interest in the past decade. Rapid electron-hole pairs recombination and wide band gap of a photo-sensitive material of TiO2 are detrimental toward the targeted catalytical reaction. In this study, we present the rational design, fabrication, photocatalytic performance of TiO2-Cu/CuO/Cu2O heterostructures (CuTi) using viable chemical reduction method. The Z-scheme and S-scheme are succesfully generated across the TiO2/CuO/Cu2O interfaces, while the Schottky junction arises on the Cu perimeters. This is evidenced from the blue shifted about 0.3 eV of Cu 2p core level determined by using X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS), in combination with the formation of inverse V-shape of the Mott-Schottky plots. In addition, we find that Cu/CuO/Cu2O facilitates photon absorption range up to the visible region. The multiple heterojunction and the large number of OHsurface enhanced charge carrier transfer are associated to the suppression of photoluminescence (PL) intensity, high surface hydroxyl (OHsurface) density in CuTi probed by XPS, and fast electron transfer based on the electrochemical measurements. The presence of OHsurface inhibits the recombination of electron. A significant H2 photogeneration rate enhancement is achieved when an optimized 5 wt% Cu/CuO/Cu2O concentration is used on TiO2 to achieve 7,157.19 μmol·g−1 (1,789.30 μmol·g−1·h−1). Based on this finding, zero emission energy innitiative could be materialized under multiple heterojunctions in photocatalytic process is beneficial for enhancing the H2 production. © 2025 The Authors

In the era of the global village, frequent cross-border trade in goods has made container transportation a significant part in delivery of cargo. However, rollover accidents of container trucks often occur because of tall truck height, improper cargo stowage or crooked roads. Therefore, how to find the optimal center of gravity (CG) of the packed cargo remains an issue that the transportation industry should not neglect. To optimize cargo stability and reduce the incidence of rollovers, this paper proposes a genetic algorithm that scores the cargo stacking process to find the best CG of the cargo based on the CG of the vehicle. According to the deviation angle and the point closest to the best CG, we can Figure out the optimal cargo stacking method. © 2022 IEEE.

Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC) Services have significant potential in digital content creation. The distinctive abilities of AIGC, such as content generation based on minimal input, hold huge potential, especially when integrating with semantic communication (SemCom). In this paper, a novel comprehensive conceptual model for the integration of AIGC and SemCom is developed. Particularly, a content generation level is introduced on top of the semantic level that provides a clear outline of how AIGC and SemCom interact with each other to produce meaningful and effective content. Moreover, a novel framework that employs AIGC technology is proposed as an encoder and decoder for semantic information, considering the joint optimization of semantic extraction and evaluation metrics tailored to AIGC services. The framework can adapt to different types of content generated, the required quality and the semantic information utilized. By employing a Deep Q Network (DQN), a case study is presented that provides useful insights into the feasibility of the optimization problem and its convergence characteristics. © 2023, CC BY.

Wastewater treatment is a crucial process that ensures the sustainable use of water resources. It involves removing pollutants and contaminants from wastewater to make it safe for disposal or reuse. Sand filtration is a widely used method for wastewater treatment. This study presents an investigation of the application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in the design and optimization of sand filters in wastewater treatment. The study investigates the performance of different sand filter configurations, including slow sand filters, under varying operational conditions. A CFD model is developed to simulate the flow and transport of pollutants in the sand filters, and the model is validated against experimental data. The results show that the CFD model can accurately predict the removal efficiency of suspended solids (SS) and hydraulic resistance buildup in the sand filters. The study highlights the potential of CFD in optimizing sand filter design and operation to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of wastewater treatment. The findings of this study can be used to guide the design and operation of sand filters in wastewater treatment plants for better performance and cost-effectiveness.
