Suitably tailored forms of spatiotemporal modulation in electronic circuit networks have been recently employed to overcome fundamental challenges in modern electronic systems, including breaking reciprocity, squeezing the footprint of high-Q resonators, and overcoming the delay-bandwidth limit. Rotating patterns of temporal modulations have been used to synthesize angular momentum, which replaces magnetic bias to break reciprocity in integrated circuits. However, this approach is limited by trade-offs between modulation speed, footprint, and bandwidth of operation. Rotating switching patterns in commutated capacitor networks also enables compact filters and quasielectrostatic wave propagation, overcoming the delay-bandwidth limit. In this paper, we combine these mechanisms in an integrated-circuit ring that synthetically rotates in two dimensions, realizing an effective helicoidal motion that provides ultrabroadband quasielectrostatic nonreciprocal responses fitting within a theoretically infinitesimal size. We also analyze the impact of modulation signal noise on time-modulated nonreciprocal components and unveil the role of a dynamic noise mechanism based on which the noise level increases in the presence of a strong signal passing through the component, along with methods to mitigate this effect. We experimentally verify these principles in a three-port integrated circulator based on a 65-nm CMOS process that operates from dc to 1 GHz with a miniaturization factor of 2 × 106.

Carbon nanotube field effect transistor (CNFET) performance is primarily influenced by a variety of characteristics, such as nanotube diameter, operating voltage, pitch, the number of tubes, dielectric constant, and contact materials. In this study, the dielectric constant and the number of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were emphasized to analyze the propagation delay and average power dissipation of basic logic gates. Zirconium dioxide (ZrO 2 ), hafnium oxide (HfO 2 ), and silicon dioxide (SiO 2 ) were used as dielectric materials. In this experiment, the Stanford CNFET model was utilized, and variable factors such as the number of CNTs and the dielectric constant $(K_{ox})$ accumulated on the nanotube gate's surface were diversified. The correlation coefficients of the delay, the average power, and the CNT numbers were also presented. Furthermore, the multi-objective genetic algorithm and the Rmethod were utilized to find the optimal K ox and the number of CNTs for minimizing the average dissipation power and the propagation delay of some logic gates designed with CNFET. For all the gates considered, the optimal number of CNTs is 4 while the dielectric constant is within the ranges of 19 to 24.

Despite the potential benefits that the integration of distributed energy resources (DERs) can bring to the system, it may cause problems related to power quality constraints, such $as$ reverse power flow in substation and overvoltages. An effective approach to address these problems involves the adoption of reactive and active power control in grid-tie inverters associated with DER. Therefore, this paper assesses the impacts of grid-tie inverter control modes, including both Volt-Var and Volt-Watt strategies, on the DER hosting capacity. In order to improve the overall system operation, modifications in the Volt-Var and Volt-Watt curves were proposed. It is noteworthy that these control strategies can have adverse effects on certain distribution system performance indicators, such $as$ voltage deviation and power losses; for this reason, these indicators are also evaluated in this study. A stochastic approach was adopted to deal with the uncertainties associated with DERs and loads. Finally, from tests conducted in the IEEE 33-bus test system, it was concluded that the proper adjustment of the Volt-Var and Volt-Watt control curves significantly influences DER hosting capacity, $as$ well $as$ voltage deviation and power losses.

Smart Inverters (SI) are essential for controlling and integrating distributed generation (DG) into the power grid, offering advanced functionalities. This paper successfully presents an in-depth design and analysis of a 5 kVA Single Phase Voltage-Source Smart Inverter (SPV-SSI) under the Smart Grid Initiative (SGI) of the U.S. department of Energy. SPV-SSI combined functions include powering local loads, injecting energy into the grid, controlling the voltage at the Point of Common Coupling (PCC) during voltage sags or faults, storing energy in a bank of lead acid batteries, powering utility loads up to the inverter’s rated capacity, and real-time decision-making capability through advance metering. Further, the complete design of SI in a dq-synchronous reference frame with current and voltage control loops, bidirectional DC-DC Buck-Boost converter, IEEE standard 1547 islanding and recloser, and Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) functions are included in this paper. In addition, the designed Adaptive Sliding Mode Controllers (ASMC) has robust, stable, and superior performance compared with the PI controller.

Artificial Intelligence-Generated Content (AIGC) refers to the use of AI to automate the information creation process while fulfilling the personalized requirements of users. However, due to the instability of AIGC models, e.g., the stochastic nature of diffusion models, the quality and accuracy of the generated content can vary significantly. In wireless edge networks, the transmission of incorrectly generated content may unnecessarily consume network resources. Thus, a dynamic AIGC service provider (ASP) selection scheme is required to enable users to connect to the most suited ASP, improving the users’ satisfaction and quality of generated content. In this article, we first review the AIGC techniques and their applications in wireless networks. We then present the AIGC-as-a-service (AaaS) concept and discuss the challenges in deploying AaaS at the edge networks. Yet, it is essential to have performance metrics to evaluate the accuracy of AIGC services. Thus, we introduce several image-based perceived quality evaluation metrics. Then, we propose a general and effective model to illustrate the relationship between computational resources and user-perceived quality evaluation metrics. To achieve efficient AaaS and maximize the quality of generated content in wireless edge networks, we propose a deep reinforcement learning-enabled algorithm for the optimal ASP selection. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can provide a higher quality of generated content to users and achieve fewer crashed tasks by comparing with four benchmarks, i.e., overloading-avoidance, random, round-robin policies, and the upper-bound schemes. © 2023, CC BY.

In the digital transformation era, Metaverse offers a fusion of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and web technologies to create immersive digital experiences. However, the evolution of the Metaverse is slowed down by the challenges of content creation, scalability, and dynamic user interaction. Our study investigates an integration of Mixture of Experts (MoE) models with Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) for mobile edge computing to revolutionize content creation and interaction in the Metaverse. Specifically, we harness an MoE model's ability to efficiently manage complex data and complex tasks by dynamically selecting the most relevant experts running various sub-models to enhance the capabilities of GAI. We then present a novel framework that improves video content generation quality and consistency, and demonstrate its application through case studies. Our findings underscore the efficacy of MoE and GAI integration to redefine virtual experiences by offering a scalable, efficient pathway to harvest the Metaverse's full potential. © 2024, CC BY.

Application of deep learning and inline holography to estimate the droplet size distribution

We examine five machine learning-based architectures to estimate the droplet size distributions obtained using digital inline holography. The architectures, namely, U-Net, R2 U-Net, Attention U-Net, V-Net, and Residual U-Net are trained using synthetic holographic images. Our assessment focuses on evaluating the training, validation, and prediction performance of these architectures. We found that U-Net and R2 U-Net to be the most proficient, displaying consistent performance trends and achieving the highest Intersection Over Union (IOU) scores compared to the other three architectures. We employ additional training using experimental holographic images for the two top-performing architectures to validate their efficacy further. Subsequently, they are employed to segment an experimental dataset illustrating the bag breakup phenomenon, facilitating the extraction of size distribution. The extracted size distribution from U-Net and R2 U-Net segmentation is then compared with the analytical model proposed by Jackiw and Ashgriz (2022) by employing the gamma and log-normal distributions. Our findings indicate that the gamma distribution provides a more accurate prediction of the multi-modal size distribution than the log-normal distribution owing to its long exponential tail. The present study offers valuable insights into the effectiveness of machine learning architectures in estimating particle/droplet sizes, highlighting their practical application in real-world experimental scenarios. © 2024, CC BY.

We introduce two thermodynamics models of solid-liquid phase equilibrium of a binary system in the presence of (a) a chemical reaction in the liquid involving only one of the binary components and, (b) strain-inducing epitaxial conditions on the solid in addition to the chemical reaction in the liquid. These models show the existence of the counter intuitive behavior that epitaxy may promote recrystallization of the solid in spite of the reaction driving dissolution. The conditions for this recrystallization behavior are determined by the value of the epitaxial lattice matching composition, the temperature and the overall composition of the binary solid-liquid system. © 2023, The Authors. A novel droplet-based intracellular delivery platform is presented leveraging droplet microfluidics with mechanical cell permeabilization. A single cell and cargos were encapsulated in a droplet using a flow focusing device. Then, the droplet was accelerated by the sheath flow and passed through a single constriction at high speed, creating membrane discontinuities that facilitate the convective transport of biomolecules into the cell. Using this principle, the cell mechanoporation was achieved in a controlled and reproducible manner, allowing highly efficient, and dosage-controllable with substantially lower analyte amounts. An e-Commerce company has been using an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system for several years, but is still constrained in its implementation, this is reflected in the number of issue/change request tickets submitted by users who have not been able to reach ideal conditions. To overcome this problem, we need an appropriate reference model, the ERP system user acceptance model in companies. The study conducted factors that influence the level of acceptance of SAP ERP users in the XYZ group to then determine a model that is able to explain practically the level of ERP system user acceptance, which in turn can produce concrete proposals to increase ERP system user acceptance. Research is quantitative descriptive using factor analysis and regression analysis methods. The research method uses a questionnaire with a total of 107 valid respondents coming from 8 company names under the XYZ group in 6 Southeast Asian countries. The conclusion of the study is that there are 24 indicators and 4 factors that influence user acceptance of the SAP ERP system. These four factors are the low contribution of the ERP system, the quality of ERP systems and data, the development of ERP systems, and also the low quality of ERP system supporters. It is hoped that by optimizing the value of the 4 factors, the XYZ group can increase user acceptance of the SAP ERP system so that the system can provide benefits expected by the company to be competitive advantage. © 2021 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
