The present paper considers the model-based and data-driven control of unknown linear time-invariant discretetime systems under event-triggering and self-triggering transmission schemes. To this end, we begin by presenting a dynamic event-triggering scheme (ETS) based on periodic sampling, and a discrete-time looped-functional approach, through which a model-based stability condition is derived. Combining the model-based condition with a recent data-based system representation, a data-driven stability criterion in the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) is established, which also offers a way of co-designing the ETS matrix and the controller. To further alleviate the sampling burden of ETS due to its continuous/periodic detection, a self-triggering scheme (STS) is developed. Leveraging pre-collected input-state data, an algorithm for predicting the next transmission instant is given, while achieving system stability. Finally, numerical simulations showcase the efficacy of ETS and STS in reducing data transmissions as well as of the proposed co-design methods. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Regularized techniques, also named as kernel-based techniques, are the major advances in system identification in the last decade. Although many promising results have been achieved, their theoretical analysis is far from complete and there are still many key problems to be solved. One of them is the asymptotic theory, which is about convergence properties of the model estimators as the sample size goes to infinity. The existing related results for regularized system identification are about the almost sure convergence of various hyper-parameter estimators. A common problem of those results is that they do not contain information on the factors that affect the convergence properties of those hyper-parameter estimators, e.g., the regression matrix. In this paper, we tackle problems of this kind for the regularized finite impulse response model estimation with the empirical Bayes (EB) hyper-parameter estimator and filtered white noise input. In order to expose and find those factors, we study the convergence in distribution of the EB hyper-parameter estimator, and the asymptotic distribution of its corresponding model estimator. For illustration, we run Monte Carlo simulations to show the efficacy of our obtained theoretical results. Copyright © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling is a vital vitreoretinal surgery procedure. However, due to the thickness of just 1-2 micrometers and the intricacies associated with its varying density and adhesion, the difficulty of manipulation exceeds the physiological limits of human perception and operation. Surgical robot is characterized by high precision and stability. However, navigating intricate intraocular environments and handling minuscule high-precision areas remain enormous challenges. These include issues of uneven lighting, field-of-view loss, and motion blur. This paper proposed a perception method named ‘Multimodal Surgical Process Recognition based on Domain Knowledge and Segmentation (MSPR-DKS),’ designed to address these challenges and provide input for the precise control of robots. Moreover, a comprehensive dataset focused on ILM peeling during macular hole surgeries was established. Experimental results underscore the efficacy of this approach, with segmentation accuracies exceeding 99.27% for instruments and macular holes and an average accuracy of 98.97% in recognizing surgical processes. This study paves the way for leveraging domain knowledge and image segmentation to improve robot-assisted manipulation of soft tissues in ophthalmology.

To obtain precise motion control of wafer stages, an adaptive neural network and fractional-order super-twisting control strategy is proposed. Based on sliding mode control (SMC), the proposed controller aims to address two challenges in SMC: 1) reducing the chattering phenomenon, and 2) attenuating the influence of model uncertainties and disturbances. For the first challenge, a fractional-order terminal sliding mode surface and a super-twisting algorithm are integrated into the SMC design. To attenuate uncertainties and disturbances, an add-on control structure based on the radial basis function (RBF) neural network is introduced. Stability analysis of the closed-loop control system is provided. Finally, experiments on a wafer stage testbed system are conducted, which proves that the proposed controller can robustly improve the tracking performance in the presence of uncertainties and disturbances compared to conventional and previous controllers. © 2021, CC BY.

Detecting sitting posture abnormalities in wheelchair users enables early identification of changes in their functional status. To date, this detection has relied on in-person observation by medical specialists. However, given the challenges faced by health specialists to carry out continuous monitoring, the development of an intelligent anomaly detection system is proposed. Unlike other authors, where they use supervised techniques, this work proposes using unsupervised techniques due to the advantages they offer. These advantages include the lack of prior labeling of data, and the detection of anomalies previously not contemplated, among others. In the present work, an individualized methodology consisting of two phases is developed: characterizing the normal sitting pattern and determining abnormal samples. An analysis has been carried out between different unsupervised techniques to study which ones are more suitable for postural diagnosis. It can be concluded, among other aspects, that the utilization of dimensionality reduction techniques leads to improved results. Moreover, the normality characterization phase is deemed necessary for enhancing the system's learning capabilities. Additionally, employing an individualized approach to the model aids in capturing the particularities of the various pathologies present among subjects.

Realizing Generalized Zero-Shot Learning (GZSL) based on large models is emerging as a prevailing trend. However, most existing methods merely regard large models as black boxes, solely leveraging the features output by the final layer while disregarding potential performance enhancements from other layers. Indeed, numerous researchers have visually depicted variations in the features learned across different layers of neural networks. Motivated by this observation, we propose a Vision Transformer (ViT)-based GZSL method named Depth-Aware Multi-Modal ViT (DAM2ViT), which exploits multi-level features of ViT. DAM2ViT incorporates a multi-modal interaction block to align semantic information of categories across multiple layers, thereby augmenting the model's capacity to learn associations between visual and semantic spaces. Extensive experiments conducted on three benchmark datasets (i.e., CUB, SUN, AWA2) have showcased that DAM2ViT achieves competitive results compared to state-of-the-art methods.

To realize the dual carbon policy, the goal of energy saving, and emission reduction, it is important to develop ways to better promote the low carbon economic operation of energy systems. Therefore, this research proposes an optimal operation strategy considering the electric-gas-cooling-heat demand response. Considering the demand response of each participant, an integrated energy system model with photovoltaic, wind energy, and traditional grid as energy supply. Also, electric energy, natural gas, cooling, and heating subsystems with co-production are established. With minimizing the overall system operation cost and optimizing environmental protection, the improved particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to solve the multi-constrained objective optimization problem. Finally, the optimized model is tested. The results from this study show that the energy system under cogeneration can find a balance between economy and environmental friendliness, and provide a reference for the subsequent energy supply configuration.

Noise on near-term quantum devices will inevitably limit the performance of Quantum Approximate Optimization Algorithm (QAOA). One significant consequence is that the performance of QAOA may fail to monotonically improve with depth. In particular, optimal depth can be found at a certain point where the noise effects just outweigh the benefits brought by increasing the depth. In this work, we propose to use the model selection algorithm to identify the optimal depth with a few iterations of regularization parameters. Numerical experiments show that the algorithm can efficiently locate the optimal depth under relaxation and dephasing noises. © 2022, CC BY.
