Induction in Optimal control of Multiple-Kite Airborne Wind Energy systems

Multiple-kite Airborne Wind Energy systems (MAWES) aim to decrease inter-mittency and cost over conventional wind turbines, while generating more power than other airborne wind energy systems. The purpose of this work is to estimate whether axial and angular induction are relevant phenomena in the modelling of pumping-cycle MAWES with two or more kites. Considering the modelling assumptions, axial induction is a relevant phenomenon and leads to significant changes in design-point, especially with respect to kite mass and secondary tether length. However, angular induction can be neglected in modelling for optimal design and control problems. © 2017

In this paper we study rendezvous control of multiple mobile *** propose a control law that merely requires each robot to measure the relative bearings of their neighbors in their local coordinate *** measurement or relative position estimation is not *** theory,the proposed control law verifies that distance information is redundant in rendezvous control tasks though the objective of rendezvous is to decrease the inter-robot *** practice,the control law provides a simple solution to vision-based rendezvous tasks where bearings can be measured by visual ***,we generalize the proposed control law by introducing an additional heading vector into the control *** heading vector may preserve the system convergence and,in the meantime,provides great flexibility to adapt the control law for nonholonomic robot models or obstacle avoidance.

Two new architectures of the third-order low-pass filters (LPF) based on differential (Op-Amp) and differential difference amplifiers (DDA) with a paraphase output are compared. This architectures designed for practical use as anti-aliasing filters in analog-to-digital converters of sensor signals of various physical quantities. The basic equations of the developed LPF modifications that make possible to perform their parametric synthesis are given. The computer simulation results are presented, which show that the LPFs under consideration provide the guaranteed frequency response (FR) attenuation outside the bandwidth being implemented on Op-Amps by Analog Device (AD8132) and Texas Instruments (THS4131).

BACKGROUND:Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) infections carry high case-fatality rates. Although the incidence of these infections is increasing and therapeutic options are limited, effective interventions to prevent the cross-transmission of CRAB have rarely been tested. AIM:To assess the impact of cohorting CRAB patients combined with intensified environmental cleaning on CRAB bloodstream infections (BSI). METHODS:A quasi-experimental study at a tertiary hospital during January 2022 - June 2024. We cohorted all patients with CRAB (either colonization or infection) hospitalized in the internal medicine departments. Simultaneously, we performed a twice-daily routine and a double terminal cleaning of all hospital rooms occupied by CRAB patients. We calculated the monthly acquired CRAB BSI rates and estimated the incidence rate ratio (IRR) using Poisson regression discontinuity analysis with robust standard errors controlled for the influx of CRAB patients into the hospital. FINDINGS:During January 2022 to June 2024, we identified 610 hospitalized patients with CRAB, 350 (57%) of whom acquired the bacterium in hospital and 138 (39%) developed BSI. The average overall 30-days mortality rate was 61% and remained relatively similar throughout the study period. Cumulative BSI incidence decreased by 55%, from 1.43 per 10,000 hospitalization days before the intervention to 0.65 afterwards. The slope of the BSI incidence rate decreased by 9% per month (adjusted IRR 0.909, 95% CI 0.834-0.990, p=0.029). CONCLUSIONS:Cohorting CRAB patients in the internal medicine departments, combined with intensified cleaning throughout the hospital significantly reduced the incidence of CRAB BSI across the entire institution.

Background Adoption of electric vehicles has the potential to reduce air pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions, hence China has implemented policies incentivising use of electric vehicles. However, much is unknown about the potential air quality and public health benefits of electric vehicles, including optimal vehicle type prioritisation and the vehicles' ability to reduce acute health impacts due to extreme air quality events. We aimed to assess the potential climate and acute public health benefits of use of electric vehicles during an extreme winter air pollution event. Methods In this modelling study, we used the Weather Research Forecast and Community Multiscale Air Quality Modeling system air quality model to simulate the interplay between weather and atmospheric chemistry. We used this model to examine potential co-benefits of electric vehicle adoption during an extreme pollution episode in China. We simulated heavy-duty and light-duty electric vehicle adoption scenarios, in which 40% of the population adopted a heavy-duty or light-duty passenger electric vehicle, re-mapped battery power needs to energy generation facilities, and characterised differences in public health outcomes using China-specific concentration-response functions. Findings We found that widespread adoption of heavy-duty electric vehicles would reduces nitric oxide and fine particulate matter resulting in 562 (95% CI 410–723) fewer premature acute deaths than the non-electrified baseline scenario. However, widespread adoption of heavy-duty electric vehicles does not reduce carbon dioxide emissions without the addition of emission-free electricity generation. By contrast, widespread adoption of light-duty electric vehicles robustly reduces greenhouse gas emissions, but results in lesser air quality improvements and fewer premature deaths avoided (145 [95% CI 38–333]) than the heavy-duty scenario. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted gaps in health surveillance systems, disease prevention, and treatment globally. Among the many factors that might have led to these gaps is the issue of the financing of national health systems, especially in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs), as well as a robust global system for pandemic preparedness. We aimed to provide a comparative assessment of global health spending at the onset of the pandemic;characterise the amount of development assistance for pandemic preparedness and response disbursed in the first 2 years of the COVID-19 pandemic;and examine expectations for future health spending and put into context the expected need for investment in pandemic preparedness. Methods: In this analysis of global health spending between 1990 and 2021, and prediction from 2021 to 2026, we estimated four sources of health spending: development assistance for health (DAH), government spending, out-of-pocket spending, and prepaid private spending across 204 countries and territories. We used the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)'s Creditor Reporting system (CRS) and the WHO Global Health Expenditure Database (GHED) to estimate spending. We estimated development assistance for general health, COVID-19 response, and pandemic preparedness and response using a keyword search. Health spending estimates were combined with estimates of resources needed for pandemic prevention and preparedness to analyse future health spending patterns, relative to need. Findings: In 2019, at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, US$9·2 trillion (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 9·1–9·3) was spent on health worldwide. We found great disparities in the amount of resources devoted to health, with high-income countries spending $7·3 trillion (95% UI 7·2–7·4) in 2019;293·7 times the $24·8 billion (95% UI 24·3–25·3) spent by low-income countries in 2019. In the paper the online fuzzy clustering recurrent procedure has been introduced that allows the forming of hyperellipsoidal clusters with an arbitrary orientation of the axes is proposed. Such clustering system is the generalization of a number of known algorithms, it is intended to solve tasks within the general problems of Data Stream Mining (DSM) and Dynamic Data Mining (DDM), when information is sequentially fed to processing in online mode.
