The vehicle system is a multi-domain system that requires many branches of science and engineering. Therefore the development of the vehicle system requires the use of design methodologies that utilize simulations, which have grown increasingly sophisticated in recent years. This paper describes how VHDL-AMS was used to model the powertrain, alternator and battery system that are the basic elements of the vehicle power network system, and examines the simulation results with the aim of realizing a system simulation whose scope covers the entire vehicle.

This paper applies an approximate multi-parametric Nonlinear Programming approach to explicitly solve output-feedback Nonlinear Model Predictive control (NMPC) problems for constrained nonlinear systems described by black-box models. In particular, neural network models are used and the optimal regulation problem is considered. A dual-mode control strategy is employed in order to achieve an offset-free closed-loop response in the presence of bounded disturbances and/or model errors. The approach is applied to design an explicit NMPC for regulation of a pH maintaining system.

As nations continue to explore space, the desire to reduce costs will continue to grow. As a method of cost reduction, transporting and/or use of launch system components as integral components of missions may become more commonplace in the future. There have been numerous scenarios written for using launch vehicle components (primarily space shuttle used external tanks) as part of flight missions or future habitats. Future studies for possible uses of launch vehicle upper stages might include asteroid diverter using gravity orbital perturbation, orbiting station component, raw material at an outpost, and kinetic impactor. The LCROSS (Lunar CRater Observation and Sensing Satellite) mission was conceived as a low-cost means of determining whether water exists at the polar regions of the Moon. Manifested as a secondary payload with the LRO (Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter) spacecraft aboard an Atlas V launch vehicle, LCROSS guided its spent Centaur Earth Departure Upper Stage (EDUS) into the lunar crater Cabeus, as a kinetic impactor. This paper describes some of the challenges that the LCROSS project encountered in planning, designing, launching with and carrying the Centaur upper stage to the Moon.

We investigate the prisoner＇s dilemma game based on a new rule： players will change their current strategies to opposite strategies with some probability if their neighbours＇ average payoffs are higher than theirs. Compared with the cases on regular lattices （RL） and Newman-Watts small world network （NW）, cooperation can be best enhanced on the scale-free Barabasi-Albert network （BA）. It is found that cooperators are dispersive on RL network, which is different from previously reported results that cooperators will form large clusters to resist the invasion of defectors. Cooperative behaviours on the BA network are discussed in detail. It is found that large-degree individuals have lower cooperation level and gain higher average payoffs than that of small-degree individuals. In addition, we find that small-degree individuals more frequently change strategies than do large- degree individuals.

Active yaw stabilization for passenger vehicles, following driver yaw rate commands with steer-by-wire and rear break force distribution, is discussed. The problem is solved via a decomposition of the vehicle equations of motion into a static, scheduled tyre characteristics map, and an affine Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) plant. control is provided via a cascade connection of scheduled inverse tyre characteristics and an LPV controller, handling both the nonlinear dynamics an the non-affine tyre characteristics. Excellent tracking results are demonstrated with a high fidelity simulation even in the presence of noise and uncertainty. © 2009 EUCA.

A method for detecting spikes and slow burst in photic evoked electroencephalogram (EEG) was proposed. The spikes were detected by combining methods of the morphological filter and the similarity coefficient in the time domain. The slow burst was detected by using pole of AR model in the frequency domain. The proposed method was applied for the photic evoked EEG data containing spikes and slow burst, and brought satisfactory coincidence with the results interpreted by a qualified electroencephalographer. © 2009 SICE.

Industrial process measurement and control systems are used in most of the industrial sectors to achieve production improvement, process optimization and time and cost reduction. Integration, reuse, flexibility and optimization are demanded to adapt to a rapidly changing and competitive market. In fact, standardization is a key goal to achieve these goals. The international standardization efforts have lead to the definition to the IEC 61131 standard. Part 3 of this standard defines a software model for defining automation projects as well as 5 programming languages. Nowadays most of the programmable logic controllers vendors follow this standard at different levels, although each programming tool adds vendor specific particularities. In order to achieve tool interoperability and thus, reusability of code, the international organization PLCopen has defined an open XML interface. This paper presents an approach that analyzes at what extent an automation project developed within a programming environment and exported using the PLCopen XML interface, is IEC 61131-3 compliant. The conformity analysis is performed at different levels: data types, programming languages and software architecture, and different grades of compliance are defined for each conformity level.

We describe a unique competition based on the novel concept of robotics and mechatronics products that included evaluation of the products' engineering function and interface design. Seventy-seven students of eleven teams from seven universities in the Kyushu area participated in the competition, whose subject was " Health care, life supporting and communication or other technical aids for the elderly or disabled." Many of the plans presented ideas that balanced function and design, showing the results of collaboration among students studying engineering and students studying product design. © 2009 SICE.

Complex and adaptive behavior of population emerges in social insects. Especially in ants, pheromone communication is the key to understanding their swarm intelligence. This paper proposes a swarm robot system based on pheromone communication and reports our current status of development of the robot system. It has been widely acknowledged that a major reason for software project failure is the ambiguous and incomplete customer's requirements. One of their main cautions is the inconsistency between implementation image and specification at an early stage of software development. Therefore, we have been proposed a method to automatically generate a user interface prototype from a requirements analysis model in Unified Modeling Language in order to decrease inconsistency between them for business Web application development. In this paper, we have compared our proposal with traditional use case modeling to evaluate the effectiveness of our proposal.
