We have developed HEARTS, a dementia care training system using augmented reality based on Humanitude. Humanitude is a multimodal comprehensive care technique for dementia, and has attracted attention as a method to reduce the burden on both caregivers and patients. However, the HEARTS developed so far could not evaluate 'speaking' skills based on the content of conversations among 'seeing,' 'touching,' and 'speaking,' all of which are fundamental skills in Humanitude. Therefore, we attempted a new quantitative evaluation of trainees' 'speaking' skills by estimating the emotional value of conversational content using GPT-4 named HEARTS 5. A survey of caregivers was conducted using the developed system and was well received by the participants. We also developed a HEARTS 5 conversational version based on HEARTS 5, with the addition of GPT-4 conversation generation and Azure Text-to-Speech. © 2024 IEEE.

An Integrated Control Framework for Safe and Ergonomic Human-Drone Interaction in Industrial Warehouses

This study introduces a novel control framework for human-drone interaction (HDI) in industrial warehouses, targeting pick-and-delivery operations. The goals are to enhance operator safety as well as well-being and, at the same time, to improve efficiency and reduce production costs. To these aims, the speed and separation monitoring (SSM) operation method is employed for the first time in HDI, drawing an analogy to the safety requirements outlined in collaborative robots' ISO standards. The so-called protective separation distance is used to ensure the safety of operators engaged in collaborative tasks with drones. In addition, we employ the rapid upper limb assessment (RULA) method to evaluate the ergonomic posture of operators during interactions with drones. To validate the proposed approach in a realistic industrial setting, a quadrotor is deployed for pick-and-delivery tasks along a predefined trajectory from the picking bay to the palletizing area, where the interaction between the drone and a moving operator takes place. The drone navigates toward the interaction space while avoiding collisions with shelves and other drones in motion. The control strategy for the drone cruise navigation integrates simultaneously the time-variant artificial potential field (APF) technique for trajectory planning and the iterative linear quadratic regulator (LQR) controller for trajectory tracking. Differently, in the descent phase, the receding horizon LQR algorithm is employed to follow a trajectory planned in accordance with the SSM, which starts from the approach point at the border of the interaction space and ends in the volume with the operator's minimum RULA. Predicting water quality is essential to preserving human health and environmental sustainability. Traditional water quality assessment methods often face scalability and real-time monitoring limitations. With accuracies of 62%, 72%, 83%, 69%, 63%, 66%, 71%, 63%, and 64%, respectively, the current techniques utilized were Logistic Regression, Decision Trees, Random Forest Regressor, Extreme Gradient Boosting, Naive Bayes, K-nearest neighbors, Support Vector Machine, AdaBoost, and Bagging [9]. This study addresses these challenges by leveraging Adaptive Synthetic Sampling (ADASYN) to balance the dataset and evaluating model performance on datasets of 5,000 and 10,000 entries per class. A robust dataset obtained from Kaggle was used, with five models – Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Feed Forward Neural Network (FFNN), Categorical Boosting (CatBoost), Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), and Random Forest – evaluated and compared. The proposed methods demonstrate significant improvements in accuracy, with XGBoost achieving the highest accuracy of 95.53%, followed by Random Forest at 93.98%. This work underscores the importance of advanced machine learning techniques in addressing the limitations of traditional methods, enhancing accuracy, scalability, and adaptability in water quality prediction. These findings contribute to advancing environmental monitoring and management practices with reliable, data-driven insights. © 2025 IEEE.

Nowadays, medical image fusion plays a crucial role in enhancing the diagnosis accuracy and the clinical decision-making process in various healthcare applications. This research work presents a comprehensive study of the design and implementation of optimized medical image fusion techniques using a combination of software and Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) technologies. The proposed medical image fusion strategy is based on the utilization of Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and Modified Central Force Optimization (MCFO). The implementation of the proposed technique as well as the traditional medical image fusion techniques is considered using an appropriate software design and FPGA. The presented techniques aim to overcome the limitations of traditional fusion techniques by integrating advanced image processing algorithms, optimization algorithms, and parallel computing capabilities offered by FPGA platforms. The first step in the proposed framework is to match the histogram of one of the images with that of the other, so that both images will have the same dynamic range. After that, the DWT is used to decompose the images that should be fused together. Based on some constraints, the MCFO optimization algorithm is used to evaluate the optimum level of decomposition and the optimum parameters for the best fusion quality. Finally, to improve the obtained visual quality and reinforce the information in the fusion result, an additional contrast enhancement step using adaptive histogram equalization is applied to the fusion result. Comparative study between the proposed optimized DWT-based fusion framework, the traditional Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Additive Wavelet Transform (AWT), and DWT-based fusion techniques is presented. In Indonesia, the growth of financial technology, or fintech, is profoundly impacting society, particularly Generation Z. Fintech has made financial products and transactions more accessible. Along with its benefits, fintech also carries risks related to security and customer support. This study aims to investigate the factors that influence fintech adoption among Gen Z, with a particular emphasis on security and customer support. This study uses the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) framework to examine how attitudes, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control influence Gen Z's financial intentions and behavior. An online survey of Gen Z university students in West Java was used to collect data, which was then analyzed using Structural Equation Modelling Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) with SmartPLS tools. This study aims to identify the key indicators influencing Gen Z's intentions and behavior towards adopting fintech to establish a technostress model. © 2024 IEEE.

Single-Frequency Self-Alignment RF Resonant Beam for information and Power Transfer

Due to power attenuation, improving transmission efficiency in the radio-frequency (RF) band remains a significant challenge, which hinders advancements in various fields of the Internet of Things (IoT), such as wireless power transfer (WPT) and wireless communication. Array design and retro-directive beamforming (RD-BF) techniques offer simple and effective ways to enhance transmission efficiency. However, when the target is an array or in the near field, the RD-BF system (RD-BFS) cannot radiate more energy to the target due to phase irregularities in the target region, resulting in challenges in achieving higher efficiency. To address this issue, we propose the RF-based resonant beam system (RF-RBS), which adaptively optimizes phase and power distribution between transmitting and receiving arrays by leveraging the resonance mechanism to achieve higher transmission efficiency. We analyze the system structure and develop an analytical model to evaluate power flow and resonance establishment. Numerical analysis demonstrates that the proposed RF-RBS achieves self-alignment without beam control and provides higher transmission efficiency compared to RD-BFS, with improvements of up to 16%. This self-alignment capability allows the system to effectively transfer power and information across varying distances and offsets. The numerical results indicate the capability to transmit watt-level power and achieve 21 bps/Hz of downlink spectral efficiency in indoor settings, highlighting the advantages of RF-RBS in information and power transfer for mobile applications. © 2014 IEEE.

In addressing labor-intensive process of manual plant disease detection, this article introduces an innovative solution—the lightweight parallel depthwise separable convolutional neural network (PDSCNN) coupled with a hybrid ridge regression extreme learning machine classifier. This combined approach automates plant disease classification, significantly expediting the learning process and reducing computational complexity. The PDSCNN model excels in feature capture, boasting a mere 9 layers and 0.053 million parameters, resulting in exceptional computational efficiency. On top of that, the classification performances of traditional ELM increased by introducing a hybrid ridge ELM model. Its accelerated operations, reduced memory usage, and optimized parallel processing render it lightweight and ideal for edge devices. The proposed framework exhibits remarkable efficacy, showcasing a precision of 95.76%, a recall of 89.29%, an F1-score of 91.25%, an accuracy of 94.22%, and an AUC of 99.72%. Moreover, training and testing times clock in at just 0.2314 and 0.0259 s, respectively. A comparative analysis against state-of-the-art transfer learning methods underscores its real-time analytical prowess. To demonstrate real-world applicability, we successfully validated our model on the Jetson Nano hardware, making it suitable for resource-constrained settings. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

Formulations and Approximations of Branch Flow Model for General Power Networks

The formulations and approximations of the branch flow model for general(radial and mesh) power networks(General-BranchFlow) are given in this paper. Using different sets of the power flow equations, six formats of the exact General-BranchFlow model are listed. The six formats are mathematically equivalent with each other. Linear approximation and second-order cone programming(SOCP) are then used to derive the six formats of the convex General-BranchFlow model. The branch ampacity constraints considering the shunt conductance and capacitance of the transmission line Π-model are derived. The key foundation of deriving the ampacity constraints is the correct interpretation of the physical meaning of the transmission line Π-model. An exact linear expression of the ampacity constraints of the power loss variable is derived. The applications of the General-BranchFlow model in deriving twelve formats of the exact optimal power flow(OPF) model and twelve formats of the approximate OPF model are formulated and analyzed. Using the Julia programming language, the extensive numerical investigations of all formats of the OPF models show the accuracy and computational efficiency of the General-BranchFlow model. A penalty function based approximation gap reduction method is finally proposed and numerically validated to improve the AC-feasibility of the approximate General-BranchFlow model.

A survey on hyperspectral image restoration: from the view of low-rank tensor approximation

The ability to capture fine spectral discriminative information enables hyperspectral images(HSIs) to observe, detect and identify objects with subtle spectral discrepancy. However, the captured HSIs may not represent the true distribution of ground objects and the received reflectance at imaging instruments may be degraded, owing to environmental disturbances, atmospheric effects, and sensors' hardware limitations. These degradations include but are not limited to complex noise, heavy stripes, deadlines,cloud/shadow occlusion, blurring and spatial-resolution degradation, etc. These degradations dramatically reduce the quality and usefulness of HSIs. Low-rank tensor approximation(LRTA) is such an emerging technique, having gained much attention in the HSI restoration community, with an ever-growing theoretical foundation and pivotal technological innovation. Compared to low-rank matrix approximation(LRMA),LRTA characterizes more complex intrinsic structures of high-order data and owns more efficient learning abilities, being established to address convex and non-convex inverse optimization problems induced by HSI restoration. This survey mainly attempts to present a sophisticated, cutting-edge, and comprehensive technical survey of LRTA toward HSI restoration, specifically focusing on the following six topics: denoising, fusion,destriping, inpainting, deblurring, and super-resolution. For each topic, state-of-the-art restoration methods are introduced, with quantitative and visual performance assessments. Open issues and challenges are also presented, including model formulation, algorithm design, prior exploration, and application concerning the interpretation requirements.

The Internet of Things (IoT) stands as a revolutionary leap in digital connectivity, envisioning a future network connecting billions of devices, seamlessly. Amidst the myriad benefits, there arises an intricate web of challenges, prominently centered around potential threats and data security implications. Recent cryptography techniques, such as DNA-based cryptography, 3D chaos-based cryptography, and optical cryptography, face challenges including large encryption times, high energy consumption, and suboptimal rather than optimal performance. Particularly, the burden of long encryption cycles strains the energy resources of typical low-power and compact IoT devices. These challenges render the devices vulnerable to unauthorized breaches, despite large storage capacities. The hallmark of the IoT ecosystem, characterized by its low-power compact devices, is the burgeoning volume of data they generate. This escalating data influx, while necessitating expansive storage, remains vulnerable to unauthorized access and breaches. Historically, encryption algorithms, with their multifaceted architectures, have been the bulwark against such intrusions. However, their inherently-complex nature, entailing multiple encryption cycles, strains the limited energy reserves of typical IoT devices. In response to this intricate dilemma, we present a hybrid lightweight encryption strategy. Our algorithm innovatively leverages both one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) chaotic key generators. Furthermore, it amalgamates a classical encryption philosophy, harmonizing the strengths of Feistel and substitution-permutation networks. The centerpiece of our strategy is achieving effective encryption in merely three rounds, tailored expressly for compressed Three-Dimensional Video (3DV) frames, ensuring their unwavering integrity.
