A Study on the Effects of Using the 6E Model and a Robot Teaching Assistant on Junior High School Students’ STEM Knowledge, Learning Motivation, and Hands-on Performance

The integration of education and robotics has emerged as a crucial development in the technological landscape. This study focuses on the use of a robot teaching assistant to enhance the learning efficiency of 8th-grade students in hands-on STEM activities centered around the theme of “Smart City.” It explores the impact of educational robots on students' learning outcomes and their development of hands-on skills through diverse learning methods. Conducted over 12 weeks with 103 participants, the study employed a quasi-experimental design. Students were split into two groups: The Experimental Group (EG), using the 6E model with robot teaching assistants, and the Control Group (CG), using only the 6E model. The analysis of covariance revealed that the EG exhibited superior performance in STEM knowledge, motivation, and hands-on skills compared to the CG. Further analysis indicated that learning motivation significantly influenced hands-on performance in the EG, particularly in high-scoring subgroups. The findings suggest that combining the 6E model with educational robots effectively enhances STEM learning and student engagement. Educational robots as teaching assistants not only aid in knowledge acquisition but also significantly boost students' motivation and hands-on skill development. This implies a promising direction for integrating advanced technology in educational practices to foster more effective learning environments.

Relationship between settlements and topographical factors:An example from Sichuan Province,China

Terrain can influence the spatial distribution of settlements. Studies on the terrain characteristics of settlements can help to understand the effects of the environment on human activities. This paper provides a quantitative analysis of the relationship between settlements and topographical factors. A statistically significant sample of residential locations and ASTER GDEM V2 were used to investigate terrain traits and settlements distributions. We selected eight topographical factors and introduced a practical concept, distributive entropy, into assessing the aggregation extent of the settlements' spatial distribution. The study showed that topography varies within the study area, and distributive entropy indicates that settlements have distinctive distribution tendency in statistic approach. According to the results of this study, mountain inhabitants prefer to settle in valleys. Additionally, with distributive entropy, residential suitability was divided to three levels: suitable, normal, and unsuited. The results showed that suitable area is small in Sichuan Province, accounting for 8.2%～29.9%; however, unsuited area is large, accounting for 33%～63.3%.

Due to the influence of the global pandemic, online and distance learning has replaced traditional classroom and face-to-face interaction so students can continue learning. Internet mediated self-directed learning also climbed to a new height and foreign language learning from YouTube video is a very popular learning method for many. Furthermore, YouTube videos can supplement cross-cultural knowledge for foreign language (FL) learners, which is a critical yet hard to develop ability for FL teachers. However, unlike for FL textbooks, the cross-cultural elements have not been examined thoroughly for YouTube videos. Therefore, this study analyzed the most subscribed and watched Japanese Chinese-as-FL YouTuber, "Lee Sisters ch", which is also the official representative of HSK (Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi) test. We selected 30 most watched videos and analyzed their contents according to Chastain’s Big ‘C’ small ‘c’ culture framework. The result showed 86.67% of the most popular 30 videos covered topics about culture: 23.33% of the videos were related to big ‘C’ culture and 63.33% were about small ‘c’ culture. Similar to earlier researches on FL textbooks, "Literature" was the main theme of big ‘C’. On the other hand, "Everyday living" was the most frequent small ‘c’ topic, which is a unique phenomenon for YouTube FL channels. Furthermore, not only did the portion of big ‘C’ and small ‘c’ cultures match the suggestions of FL scholars, the language used in all videos were also mainly in Japanese that fit the needs of Japanese CFL learners. It is concluded YouTube video may be suitable to learn cross-cultural knowledge for FL learner, especially for Japanese students. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

The effects of the PCM-based cold storage system operated under periodic (P12) and continuous (P24) storage conditions on the physico-chemical characteristics of mango fruits were investigated. Fruits in P12 and P24 storage conditions underwent weight loss, peel colour change, soluble solid concentration and maintained high firmness, titratable acidity and ascorbic acid along with the conventional cold storage system (G24). Temperature response and energy consumption revealed that PCM-based cold storage conditions P12 and P24 maintain the temperature within the permissible range and consume less energy than the conventional system. An effective reduction of 39 and 18% of energy consumption was noticed in P12 and P24 PCM-based cold storage conditions. As per these results periodic PCM-based cold storage (P12) can be effectively used as an energy-saving cold storage technology alternative to a conventional cold storage system to maintain the mango fruit quality during power failure and off-peak load conditions. © 2022 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Do Job Candidates Perform Honest and Deceptive Impression Management Differently in Automated Video Interviews with Different Ai Interfaces?

Automated video interviews powered by artificial intelligence (AI) are increasingly being adopted by employers to screen job candidates despite concerns regarding the humanity and transparency of AI. Accordingly, researchers and practitioners advocate overcoming these concerns by refining AI interfaces in terms of tangibility, immediacy, and transparency. However, AI video interviews featuring different interfaces may impact interviewees’ tendencies to engage in impression management behaviors (IMs), which can either improve or impair personnel selection validity. This study addressed calls for research to investigate the issues mentioned above by conducting a field study to explore the ways in which AI and AI interfaces affect candidates’ IMs in asynchronous video interviews (AVIs). We developed three AVI interfaces and measured real job applicants’ self-reported IMs across four experimental treatments. We found that different AI interfaces could increase or decrease candidates’ honesty IMs and deceptive IMs in different ways. An exploratory analysis also found that candidates’ interview anxiety could be mitigated by an AI interface. © 2022, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The aim of this research is to develop a hands-on spatial geometry learning system to facilitate students' geometry learning. The system is developed with Duval's four critical elements of geometry apprehension including perceptual apprehension, sequential apprehension, operational apprehension and discursive apprehension. The system supports senior high school students in the process of spatial geometry problem-solving, allowing them to hands-on manipulate spatial geometry graphics and develop their visualization and mental imagery. In total, 58 participants from different classes were recruited. The experimental group used the hands-on learning system, whereas the control group followed the traditional paper-based approach. The study investigates the effects of the hands-on geometry learning system on students' perceptual apprehension, sequential apprehension, operational apprehension, overall spatial geometry scores and learning attitude. The results revealed more learning attitude, and higher perceptual apprehension, sequential apprehension, operational apprehension in the experimental group.

Meditation is a family of ancient and contemporary contemplative mind-body practices that can modulate psychological processes, awareness, and mental states. Over the last 40 years, clinical science has manualized meditation practices and designed various meditation interventions that have shown therapeutic efficacy for disorders including depression, pain, addiction, and anxiety. Over the past decade, neuroimaging has been used to examine the neuroscientific basis of meditation practices, effects, states, and outcomes for clinical and nonclinical populations. However, the generalizability and replicability of current neuroscientific models of meditation have not yet been established, because they are largely based on small datasets entrenched with heterogeneity along several domains of meditation (e.g., practice types, meditation experience, clinical disorder targeted), experimental design, and neuroimaging methods (e.g., preprocessing, analysis, task-based, resting-state, structural magnetic resonance imaging). These limitations have precluded a nuanced and rigorous neuroscientific phenotyping of meditation practices and their potential benefits. Here, we present ENIGMA (Enhancing Neuro Imaging Genetics through Meta Analysis)–Meditation, the first worldwide collaborative consortium for neuroscientific investigations of meditation practices. ENIGMA-Meditation will enable systematic meta- and mega-analyses of globally distributed neuroimaging datasets of meditation using shared, standardized neuroimaging methods and tools to improve statistical power and generalizability. Through this powerful collaborative framework, existing neuroscientific accounts of meditation practices can be extended to generate novel and rigorous neuroscientific insights that account for multidomain heterogeneity. Building trust in automatic video interviews using various AI interfaces: Tangibility, immediacy, and transparency

As the demand for automatic video interviews powered by artificial intelligence (AI) increases among employers in the postpandemic era, so do concerns over job applicants' trust in the technology. There are various forms of AI-based video interviews with and without the features of tangibility, immediacy, and transparency used for preemployment screening, and these features may distinctively influence applicants' trust in the technology and whether they engage in or disengage from the hiring process accordingly. This field study involved designing a test of the effect of various forms of AI-based video interviews on interviewees' cognitive and affective trust based on the self-reporting of 152 real job applicants. The study found that AI used in asynchronous video interviews (AI-AVI) increased applicants' cognitive trust from that in the non-AI condition. Moreover, when the AI-AVI had features of tangibility and transparency, the applicants’ cognitive and affective trust increased. However, the feature of immediacy did not have a statistically significant impact. Contrary to concern over the potential negative effects caused by AI and its features, no statistically significant impacts were found in this study. © 2023 Elsevier Ltd

Bacterial infection can delay wound healing, while drug resistance further complicates the treatment of wound infection. Phototherapy, including photothermal therapy (PTT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT), is a non/mini-invasive and efficient antibacterial strategy that rarely induces bacterial resistance. This treatment relies on specific wavelengths of light to activate photothermal agents (PTAs) or photosensitizers, killing bacteria by generating local heats or reactive oxygen species (ROS), respectively. However, the light for traditional PTT/PDT mainly falls in the visible and near-infrared I light (Vis/NIR-I light, 400–900 nm) regions, which significantly limits further clinical translations due to its low tissue permeability. The near-infrared II (NIR-II,1000–1700 nm) light is increasingly utilized in antibacterial PTT/PDT to improve tissue penetration and ameliorate the immune microenvironment of deeper wounds. Meanwhile, NIR-II light offers a higher maximum permissible exposure (MPE) for PTT/PDT in treating wound infections, thereby facilitating the security, in comparison to Vis/NIR-I light. This review highlights recent advancements in NIR-II PTT/PDT for drug-resistant wound infections, focusing on mechanisms, therapeutic outcomes, challenges, and prospects. © 2025

Institutional networking capability as a catalyst for sustainable supply chains in the manufacturing sector of Ghana: The role of green human resource management strategy and green dynamic capability

This study explores the influence of Green human resource Management Strategy (GHRMS) on supply chain environmental sustainability in manufacturing SMEs, emphasising the mediating role of green dynamic capability and the moderating effect of institutional networking capability. Quantitative data was gathered from 263 owners and managers in Ghana's manufacturing sector. The Covariant-Based Structural Equation Modelling (CB-SEM) approach within Amos (v.23) was employed to test the proposed hypotheses. The findings revealed that GHRMS significantly enhances supply chain environmental sustainability by fostering eco-conscious HR practices. Green dynamic capability partially mediates this relationship, enabling firms to develop and adapt sustainable competencies. Additionally, institutional networking capability strengthens the indirect effect of GHRMS on supply chain sustainability, demonstrating the crucial role of external networks in achieving environmental goals. These findings underscore the importance of both internal organisational capabilities and external collaborations in driving sustainable supply chain practices in emerging economies. This study provides strategic insights for firms aiming to integrate GHRMS into their environmental sustainability initiatives, fostering a greener and more resilient supply chain ecosystem.
