There are many factors which cause instability in an organization's *** of these factors are illness,retirement,attrition or finding better *** this unstable environment and in order to create stability for the future of the organization,they need to hire capable people for key positions. One of the important tools for attracting,developing,and retaining the talent in the workforce is succession *** are many factors influencing the implementation of an effective succession planning system in *** main purpose of this qualitative study is to find the most important ones in Iran's private *** result of interviews with five key executives in five private banks in Esfahan-the second largest city in Iran-which all have the succession planning system in their organizations,indicate the factors as:training,management supports,clarifying the career path,creating a positive vision,strong organizational culture,technology advancement,flat structure and the financial *** the lack of considering these factors is a threat to the system,the result of this study may help other organizations to consider implementing the succession planning system for better outcomes.

The green approach: Self-powered house design concept for undergraduate research

This paper discusses innovative ways of using power through everyday activities at home. A green approach uses ambient energy sources such as solar, wind, geothermal and active/passive human power to generate electricity to power home appliances, air conditioning system, and light bulbs. The concept of a self-powered house is to use energy-efficient methods to explore ways to convert environmental sustainable energy sources into electrical energy. Sources of ambient (environmental) energy are determined prior to the design of the house in order to construct a house of maximum efficiency from ambient energy sources. Research has been conducted at several universities to make this futuristic approach for solving energy problems in the 21st century. The purpose of this research was to study a house of the future intended to be an off-grid self-sufficient, energy-efficient, and ambient-energy powered that would generate enough energy to power the appliances. This paper explains the first phase of the project which was to identify ambient energy sources and group them into specific categories such as thermoelectric, mechanical/vibrations, hydroelectric, magnetic field, airflow, acoustic noise, wind, solar/light, and geothermal. The identified ambient energy sources are characterized as high, medium, and low power sources and will also be discussed in this paper. © 2010 ATMAE.

According to the United Nations Sustainable development Goals(SDG 15.3),frequent sand and dust storms(SDSs)in the spring are a long-term challenge to the prevention and control of land degradation on the Mongolian *** this study,MODIS remote sensing data are used to monitor and analyse SDS events on the Mongolian *** annual distribution of spring SDSs(March to May)from 2000 to 2021 are obtained based on the dust storm detection *** overall classification accuracy is 85.24%and the kappa coefficient is *** show a decrease in the overall frequency of SDS events,where storm events in 2000–2010 are significantly higher than those in the second *** cross-border regions between China and Mongolia appear to be SDS intensity centers,particularly those in southern *** exhibits a strong negative correlation with the area affected by SDS,and the correlation coefficient is–*** increase in barren and sand contributes primarily to the increase in SDS,whereas wind prevention and sand control projects undertaken by the Mongolian and Chinese governments promote regional *** pertaining to cross-board sandstorm responses on the Mongolian Plateau are recommended.

This paper reports magnetic microrobots with rolling capability. A magnetic object subjected to an externally rotating magnetic field would be rotated due to the tendency of alignment between its internal magnetization and the field. Based on this principle, a magnetic microrobot in a spherical body with a diameter of several hundred microns was designed and fabricated. To remotely power and control the microrobot, a rotating magnet was used to generate a rotating magnetic field. Driven by this field, the microrobot can freely roll on three-dimensional surfaces. These surfaces can be in air, water or silicon oil. In a dry environment, a microrobot with a diameter of 440 mu m achieved a maximum linear speed of 13.2 mm s(-1).

This paper takes 22 cities in Sichuan-Chongqing region as examples, builds a comprehensive evaluation index system for the ecological environment of scientific and technological talents on the basis of existing research, uses the mean square error weighting method to determine the weight of each index, and uses the comparative analysis method to analyze the Chengdu-Chongqing double-city economic circle. The wildfires are often triggered by drought and human activity, one of the main challenges when the wildfires happen is to access to freshwater sources. The aim of this research is to estimate the depth of groundwater stored in different surficial aquifers as the source of water to suppress the wildfires in the East part of Siak-Regency. Collecting the dataset using water level measurements in wells, 2D-resistivity, and ground-penetrating radar (GPR). These data were used to estimate the aquifer properties and provide additional information which can be used to identify optimal locations to install new groundwater wells. The research was conducted over a two-year period from 2016 to 2017. utilizing the resistivity method, GPR, and auger data all showed four easily identifiable subsurface layers. The surface soil in the study area is predominantly peat, with a depth ranging between 2m to 5.8m (bgs), resistivity values ranging from 80Ω-m to 100Ω- m, and EM velocities between 0.038m/ns and 0.048m/ns The sandy-clay loam is relatively impermeable and acts as a confining layer, with resistivity values between 40Ω-m to 80Ω- m. GPR signals in this confining layer are attenuated, The EM velocity values in the confining unit range between 0.12m/ns and 0.15m/ns. the auger was unable to penetrate further. Below the confining unit lies a sandy layer at depths between 8m and 14m (bgs) with resistivity values lower than 20Ω-m, the fourth layer was deeper than 16m (bgs), had resistivity values from 70 Ω-m-100Ω-m and was consistent with the Pleistocene clayey-gravels of the Kerumutan Formation (Qpke). The other results of our study indicate that the surface water from the studies area has quite a low PH (1.5 to 2.5), making them unsuitable for domestic use. Based on the results of this study is recommended that groundwater in the study area in eastern Siak Regency be screened in the confined aquifer, at a depth from approximately 8m to 12m.

TanSat is China’s first greenhouse gases observing *** recent years,substantial progresses have been achieved on retrieving column-averaged CO_(2)dry air mole fraction(XCO_(2)).However,relatively few attempts have been made to estimate terrestrial net ecosystem exchange(NEE)using TanSat XCO_(2)*** this study,based on the GEOS-Chem 4D-Var data assimilation system,we infer the global NEE from April 2017 to March 2018 using TanSat XCO_(2).The inversion estimates global NEE at−3.46 PgC yr^(-1),evidently higher than prior estimate and giving rise to an improved estimate of global atmospheric CO_(2)growth ***,our inversion greatly increases the carbon uptakes in northern mid-to-high latitudes and significantly enhances the carbon releases in tropical and southern lands,especially in Africa and India *** increase of posterior sinks in northern lands is mainly attributed to the decreased carbon release during the nongrowing season,and the decrease of carbon uptakes in tropical and southern lands basically occurs throughout the *** against independent CO_(2)observations and comparison with previous estimates indicate that although the land sinks in the northern middle latitudes and southern temperate regions are improved to a certain extent,they are obviously overestimated in northern high latitudes and underestimated in tropical lands(mainly northern Africa),*** results suggest that TanSat XCO_(2)retrievals may have systematic negative biases in northern high latitudes and large positive biases over northern Africa,and further efforts are required to remove bias in these regions for better estimates of global and regional NEE.

Students’ self-authoring mobile App for integrative learning of STEM

This paper proposes the integrative learning of technology and science in which students create their own science applications on smartphones. The proposed learning aims to help students experience what science is and how it is technically utilized. In addition, discipline-specific representations were emphasized in the learning design to help students translate between those in different disciplinary and build up their meta-representational competence, central to engineering professional practice as well as learning about engineering design process in school. During the integrative learning, students were also expected to experience the shift of coding from studying how to write a program code to how to control a device to solve a problem, the computational thinking. The proposed learning practice was held and evaluated with 85 participants from high schools and universities. The results showed that students were motivated, and valued the proposed learning practice. Students perceived the usefulness and ease of use of the tools adopted in the learning practice. The study results suggest that the use of smartphones in education may support the orchestrating of the teaching and learning of science and engineering. © The Author(s) 2018.

Based on Bhattacherjee's(2001) expectation-confirmation model, the purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of expectation, perceived enjoyment, and perceived usefulness on satisfaction and continuance intention of a digital textbook in middle school and to suggest instructional strategies to maintain satisfaction and continuance intention of digital textbooks for middle school students. The subjects of this study were Korean middle school students taking an English class taught by a digital textbook in E middle school, Seoul. The digital textbook used in this study consisted of four stages(listen, listen and repeat, talk with a foreigner, and practice with friends) for learning English. Data were collected via a paper-and-pencil-based questionnaire with 17 items, and 137 responses were analyzed. The study found that(a) the more expectation of a digital textbook is satisfied, the more likely students are to perceive enjoyment and usefulness of digital textbook,(b) satisfaction plays a mediating role in linking expectation, perceived enjoyment and perceived usefulness, and continuance intention of a digital textbook,(c) perceived usefulness and satisfaction have a direct and positive influence on continuance intention of a digital textbook, and(d) perceived enjoyment has non-significant influence on continuance intention of a digital textbook of middle school students. Based on these findings, the implications and limitations of the study are presented, along with recommendations for future research.

Understanding better the experiences of students pursuing an engineering degree is an important issue for the pedagogy of engineering programs. This study sought to identify students' perceptions of their educational experiences and their motivations for and dreams of a career in engineering. The study also provided a snapshot of the current status of engineering education at this institution from the perspective of engineering students-including students' decisions behind their choice of engineering as a major, the learning experiences of engineering students, and gender-related perspectives regarding engineering education. The findings suggest opportunities to improve the educational process for students in this engineering program. © American Society for Engineering Education, 2007.
