In this paper, we propose a two-phase mobile transaction validation protocol making the best use of the strong point of (1, m) indexing broadcast data organization in wireless broadcast environments. It is based on OCC(Optimistic Concurrency Control) protocol which minimizes the excessive bi-directional communication by making transactions execute unhindered to their validation point. In the proposed protocol, the validation of a mobile transaction is performed in two-phase: partial validation phase and final validation phase. The partial validation is performed at the mobile client based on the control information contained in the broadcast disk and the final validation is performed on the committed and active transactions at the server. The proposed protocol tries to minimize the restart rate of mobile transactions as well as average transaction response time through adjusting serialization order of mobile transactions by exploiting the potential read/write set of mobile transactions. A recent report showed that the adoption rate of mobile healthcare is relatively low. Thus, a study for how healthcare professionals adopt mobile services to support their work is imperative in practice. An integration of TAM and TPB has considered both technological and organizational aspects in a complementary manner. However, while mobile healthcare is considered as an emerging technology with wireless features and often used in a voluntary motive. The service provision for pervasive usage and individual psychological state are critical in determining the system use. Accordingly, perceived service availability and personal innovativeness in IT are the major drivers for the components of TAM and TPB. This study thus proposed such a research framework for integrating these relevant components from a broader perspective. Empirical research is further conducted for examining its practical validity.

Land-sea atmosphere interaction(LSAI)is one of the important processes affecting ozone(O_(3))pollution in coastal *** effects of small-scale LSAIs like sea-land breezes have been widely ***,it is not fully clear how and to what extent the large-scale LSAIs affect O_(3) *** we explored an O_(3) episode to illuminate the role of large-scale LSAIs in O_(3) pollution over the BohaieYellow Seas and adjacent areas through observations and model *** results show that the northern Bohai Sea's coastal region,influenced by the Mongolian High,initially experienced a typical unimodal diurnal O_(3) variation for three days,when O_(3) precursors from BeijingeTianjineHebei,Shandong,and Northeast China were transported to the BohaieYellow *** reactions generated O_(3) within marine air masses,causing higher O_(3) levels over the seas than coastal *** the Mongolian High shifted eastward and expanded,southerly winds on its western edge transported O_(3)-rich marine air masses toward the coast,prolonging pollution for an additional three days and weakening diurnal ***,emissions from the Korean Peninsula and marine shipping significantly affected O_(3) levels in the northern Bohai Sea(10.7%and 13.7%,respectively).Notably,Shandong's emissions played a substantial role in both phases(27.5%and 26.1%,respectively).These findings underscore the substantial impact of large-scale LSAIs driven by the Mongolian High on O_(3) formation and pollution duration in coastal *** insight helps understand and manage O_(3) pollution in northern Bohai Sea cities and broadly applies to temperate coastal cities worldwide.

We propose a new notion of hoardset fragmentablilty and SSMT(Split Synchronizing Mobile Transaction) model for ubiquitous mobile clients, which not only assures transaction atomicity in synchronization but also reduces synchronization cost and provides context-awareness in ubiquitous computing environment with uneven conditioning. It splits the synchronization process of a mobile transaction into 2 parts by exploiting the hoardset fragmentability of data objects which the mobile transaction access: preferred and deferred synchronization part. The deferred synchronization part which has no possibility of conflict uses the data-centric synchronization strategy and its synchronization is delayed. The preferred synchronization part with possibility of conflicts is synchronized early using the transaction-centric synchronization strategy. We also propose a new data hoarding and synchronization mechanism which facilitates the split synchronization of SSMT. The performance evaluation model for the SSMT is developed and its results are compared to a conventional transaction-centric synchronization model. © 2008 ACM.

Conventional Fisher Linear Discriminant analysis (FLD) for pattern classification yields a single dominant feature which comes from the unique eigenvector having a nonzero eigenvalue due to a rank-one matrix. Consequently *** had developed an optimal orthogonal system for FLD, and it had a good performance on applications. Recently S. Mika extended FLD to nonlinear kernel space. The extension is called Kernel Fisher Discriminant (KFD) which is related to a support vector machine. Despite of its better performance, it has the limitation which has only m-1 features on m-class classification problem. We propose a novel method that applies on this orthogonal system and achieves better performance by finding more orthogonal features in the nonlinear feature space. The simulation result shows that our method is more effective in pattern recognition. © 2008 IADIS.

We propose a new cache coherency scheme named HCCS(Hybrid Cache Coherency Scheme) to facilitate ubiquitous data access of mobile clients. To cope with the limitations of ubiquitous computing environments, it integrates the cache invalidation scheme using broadcast channel into the publish/subscribe-based data synchronization scheme using two-way communication channel. We present novel algorithms and system architecture for the HCCS. By integrating two schemes, the HCCS provides substantial benefits: allows updates on the mobile client which are restricted in the cache invalidation scheme using broadcast channel and disconnected operations, improves the scalability. The HCCS scheme also gives proper support to the short disconnection of mobile clients, dynamically adapts to changes of disconnection period of the mobile clients. © 2007 IEEE.

Purpose This paper aims to examine the issues of knowledge transfer in international strategic alliance within Hero Moto Corp. Ltd., an Indian multinational company. International Strategic alliances have been increasing in numbers in the past decades and transfer of knowledge and its transfer in multinational companies is wider debate. The case explores the complex issues involved in cross-organization and cross-country transfer of knowledge. The company has forged a strategic alliance with the US-based Erik Buell Racing for accessing technology and design inputs. Design/methodology/approach It presents a structured case study that examines a wide range of knowledge transfer issues of international strategic alliance. Findings It reveals that a major influencing factor is the national culture of the parents and that of the host country which provides the context with in which alliances are operate. It is also explored the ways in which the multi-parentage of strategic alliances influences their human resource Management (HRM) policies and practices. Originality/value It provides plenty of useful information on an issue that affects virtually every employee and organization.

This paper presents conceptual design and feasibility analysis for oversized grain harvesting combine headers with dynamic topology. To meet customer harvesting productivity requirements, the harvesting header must increase in width from 40 to 60 feet, yet be usable on current generation combine harvesters. While designing concepts for an oversized harvester head is a complex problem by itself, it also presents a latent challenge with packaging and transporting. Transporting a 60ft harvester header using traditional methods will violate road transport regulations imposed by US state and federal governments. This warrants innovations in both designing an oversized header concepts and viable means to package it for domestic and international shipping. The Advanced Systems Design Suite (ASDS) was used to design, visualize and perform quick assessment of the proposed concept designs. Three preliminary design concepts were generated based on customer requirements and manufacturer’s guidelines, of which one design was chosen for transitioning into detailed design stages. Static engineering analysis showed that the combine harvester’s feederhouse mount can support the additional mass of the larger header. Articulation mechanisms were represented by primitive shapes created in ASDS to visualize the preliminary design solution for packaging the header for transportation. Finite Element Analyses (FEA) was performed to determine the required size, shape, and position of the articulation mechanisms. Harvest productivity analyses were performed to assess business feasibility on the oversized header design. Header performance requirements identified potential time and monetary savings of an articulated header compared to a non articulated head of the same size. Reducing the time required to perform "non-harvesting activities" with currently available combines enables the manufacturer to generate a more feasible detailed design addressing this difficult design challenge. Designing a website using a standard user interface without taking into consideration cultural differences may need to be relooked. A country such as Malaysia, who has a multi-racial population composition, may need more innovative web designs that could fulfill the preferences of its diverse online users. While there are many discussions on this issue, empirical investigation on the linkage between culture and web design is quite limited. Therefore, this paper attempts to fulfill this gap by proposing a study on this topic. After reviewing the related literature, we proposed a research model in which we hypothesized that culture affects individuals’ preference of interface design. Moreover, we hypothesized that cultural markers and cultural dimensions in a website interface that fit with users’ cultural dimensions will affect website usability and later their experience. Methodology and conclusion are also discussed.
