The effectiveness and studies of e-learning in Taiwan: A review and synthesis of 2000-2011 research literature

The purpose of this study was to review and synthesize the research literature on e-learning in Taiwan. In total, 86 journal articles and theses/dissertations, which quasi-experimental research methods were utilized in and included in three major domestic and international electronic databases between the years 2000-2011, were selected for review and synthesis. The purest synthesis method of synthesizing multiple areas with single method was employed to investigate the research literature. It is found that the quasi-experimental research studies and the effectiveness of e-learning in 2000-2011 in Taiwan are as follows: (1) Learning areas or subjects focus on formal sciences;(2) The researches are mainly done in the university/colleges primarily preparing school teachers;(3) The main subjects in descending order of frequency selected by studies are elementary school students, junior high school students, and senior/vocational high school students;(4) The most experimental teaching durations are between 101 and 300 minutes;(5) Motivation, learning environment, and technological capability are the three issues mostly concerned about;(6) Learning effectiveness are mainly argued from the two starting viewpoints, learning or technology;(7) Teaching theory focus on Piaget and Vygotsky perspectives of cognitive construction;and (8) The learning domains in descending order of instructional effectiveness investigation are cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains.

Developing a knowledge management behavior scale of e-portfolio based on approaches of web fuzzy Delphi and fuzzy AHP

This study developed a knowledge management behavior scale of e-portfolio for university students based on the approaches of Web-based fuzzy Delphi and fuzzy AHP. According to the experts' opinions, the constructs of the scale included knowledge sharing, innovation, acquisition, application, and accumulation. The items in each construct consisted of the activities of e-portfolio implementation, which were reflection, assignment improvement, self-evaluation, organization of learning contents, teacher feedback, review and learning, and communication and discussion. All the constructs and items had weights and ranks and were by acceptable reliability and validity. Among all the items, the overall weight of reflection was highest, while following was assignment improvement. It applied that reflection had a highest effect on knowledge management. Therefore, the scale can be used as a knowledge management performance measurement tool for e-portfolio implementation.

An exploration of working conditions and flexible system for hospital nurses

Background: The lack of sufficient numbers of professional nurses in the healthcare system in Taiwan is an issue that affects the sustainability of this system and that relates closely to working conditions. Purpose: The present study explores the expectations that nurses hold with regard to working conditions and the operation of a flexible system in hospitals. Methods: A literature review and focus-group interviews were used to develop the questionnaire Working Conditions and Flexible System. A total of 1,150 copies of this questionnaire were distributed to practicing nurses using stratified random sampling, with 1,146 valid copies returned for a valid recovery rate of 99.65%. Results: The results show that the expectations of participants concerning working conditions and a flexible system focus on the 6 factors of task, numerical, divisional, temporal, wages, and leading flexibility. The total mean was 4.35 (SD=0.42). The means for the 6 types of flexibility were all greater than 4.0. Participants deemed flexibility to be of high importance. The demographic variables hospital, work location, age, education level, work position, work unit, and total work years all affected the 6 types of flexibility significantly. Conclusions: The present study supports that the retention of nurses is significantly associated with working conditions and the operation of a flexible system. Administrators and mangers must create positive working conditions and a flexible system in order to enhance the retention and career development of nurses.

While a plethora of studies has been conducted to examine stress and its impact on mental health in western countries,research is scarce investigating the relationship between student challenge stress and health illness in the context of Chinese *** studies examined the moderating effect of self-efficacy on the relationship between challenge stress and health *** study attempted to investigate the relationships between these three variables among Chinese college ***,this study focused on examining whether self-efficacy moderated the effect of perceived challenge stress on students’mental ***,the differences were tested between male and female students in terms of these three variables.A sample of 578 Chinese college students was recruited over an approximately 12-week period from 7 Chinese *** online survey link was dis-tributed through *** SPSS version 26 software was used to analyze the *** showed that there is no significant difference between genders in terms of perceived challenge stress,self-efficacy,and students’mental *** addition,challenge stress was positively related to the students’mental health(β=0.35,p<0.01)while there was a negative association between self-efficacy and mental health(β=-0.41,p<0.01).Furthermore,self-efficacy plays a moderating role in the relationship between challenge stress and mental health(β=-0.11,p=0.02).Students with low self-efficacy tend to experience more mental health *** is suggested that Chinese colleges and universities pay more attention to students with low self-efficacy,either through faculty/staff interven-tions or peer *** consider reducing students’academic stress to improve their mental health.

This study examines the causal relationship of perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, attitude, trust, behavior intention and actual behavior, which occur online shopping with the moderating effects of online experience. An estimated model discusses building an effective relationship with online shoppers. The survey was conducted with 600 undergraduates in Taiwan. Structural equation modeling was employed to validate the measures and confirm the hypothesized model. All variables have significant and positive impact, and online experiences moderate the causal relationship.

This study intends to specify the particular aspects of staff organization training in term of literatures. A content analysis is conducted to provide an overview of the three approaches including “the cycle of course designing”, “the training stages” and “training methods”. In addition, the new directions of instruction are discussed regarding performed courses in some organizations. It is demonstrated that the more future oriented method with education of the employees is “Management development” that attempt to instill sound reasoning processes for better performing of personnel training. We assert that these findings can assist human resource researchers to introduce with basic concepts of staff organization training.

In order to overcome the pattern of traditional equipment, a new method about developing the axis-angle is proposed by combining the virtual instrument technology with the module of high-precision axis-angle SXZ including synchro and resolver . With the help of VtoolsD and Vc ++6.0 tools, the software implementation, namely, the VxD driver, has been programmed. Based on the platform Labwindows / cvi of NI, the driver, which has been applied to the axis angle test and simulation system is designed and carried out. The results show that the driver can be well integrated seamlessly into Labwindows/cvi platform and the system works reliably. © 2010 IEEE.

Integrating generative artificial intelligence tools can allow one to manage and develop novel business methods efficiently. With the introduction of self-learning generative artificial intelligence (GAI) tools, the corporate world is trying to figure out the applications and their business implications. Major technology companies like Microsoft, Google, Facebook, etc., have shown enormous interest in investing in ventures developing generative AI tools/models. These tools/models can be experimented with, and their business use is being explored. The study aims to explore the potential uses of generative AI (GAI) in academics through its current capabilities and applications. The study also highlights the potential challenges and concerns arising from using generative AI in academics. The study has used descriptive and quantitative methods to answer the research questions. The study has used a questionnaire based on the Likert scale to measure the significance of indirect variables, viz. perceived ease of use (PEOU) and perceived trust (PT) on direct variable adoption of generative artificial intelligence (AGAI) in academics. The sample size consists of 100 students and 100 university professors. The study Mentions that perceived ease of use (PEOU) positively influences GAI (AGAI) adoption. Also, perceived trust (PT) has a predictive ability of AGIA when controlling for PEOU. The use of generative AI in a few years will become imperative in most human lives, which makes it mandatory to explore the possible ways of its adoption in the mainstream rather than avoiding or restricting its usage in academics. © 2023 IEEE.

The motivation of nurses to participate in continuing professional education in Ireland

Purpose - The purpose of this article is to review the extant literature on CPE amongst nurses and concentrate on discovering the factors that motivate and inhibit participation in CPE for nurses in Ireland. Design/methodology/approach - A review of the literature was carried out on continuing professional development amongst nurses in Ireland, the UK, the USA and Australia. From this, research hypotheses were developed. The primary research concentrated on a cohort of practicing registered nurses participating in a CPE course at a third-level institution in Ireland. A questionnaire was used that contained both open and closed-ended questions. Findings - The main barriers to participation in CPE were lack of employer support and the difficulty of balancing home-life, work and study. The main motivators for participation in CPE were improving self-esteem and confidence and the expectation of increased opportunities for promotion for those with higher educational qualifications. Research limitations/implications - A relatively small non-random sample was used. Therefore, the results may be generalized only with caution. Practical implications - A number of implications for HRD practitioner emerged. These included overt recognition of prior ward-based learning, increased financial support, increased study leave and the need for the HRD practitioner to champion the cause of CPE. Originality/value - In order to ensure a highly efficient workforce, providing the highest possible standards of care to patients, the health sector needs its workforce to constantly update their knowledge and skills. Therefore it is an important time to consider the factors that aid and inhibit participation in CPE, a common method utilized to achieve this aim. © Emerald Group Publishing Limited.
