Effects of design thinking on artificial intelligence learning and creativity

ABSTRACTThis study explored the effects of design thinking on the conceptual cognition of artificial intelligence (AI) learning, attitudes toward AI, idea creativity, and the product creativity of AI applications. The concept map indicated that design thinking had a significant effect on the conceptual cognition of AI learning, particularly the relational conjunctions and classes of AI concepts. However, effects of cross-linking and examples were nonsignificant. In addition, it had a significant and positive effect on learning attitudes toward AI, in particular AI input and AI processing. Moreover, design thinking significantly and positively affected the idea creativity of AI applications, particularly the effects of novelty and value. It also had a significant and positive effect on the product creativity of AI applications, particularly functionality and elaboration. However, material novelty, style, idea structure, and product creativity had no significant difference.

In order to provide a more flexible wireless rechargeable sensor network, a charger and a self-propelled vehicle are integrated into one vehicle in recent years. The path selection problem of mobile chargers can be formulated as the well-known travelling salesman problem. Therefore, metaheuristic algorithms can be applied to solve the planning problem of mobile chargers. Some researches presented planning methods based on the Simulated Annealing (SA) and Tabu Search (TS) algorithms but the results are not satisfied. In this paper, we not only design a novel encoding approach but also the fitness function for proposing an efficient planning algorithm based on the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed ACO-based algorithm achieves a shorter planning path for a longer network lifetime compared with that generated by the SA and TS algorithms. © 2021, Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Exploring the Mediator in Science Service Learning: Analysis of University Students’ Behavioural Intention to Use Digital Platforms

This study examined two mediators of university students’ behavioural intention to use digital platforms in the context of science service learning in Taiwanese universities. Based on the technology acceptance model (TAM), we proposed two cognitive variables as antecedents, self-efficacy and science trust, to verify their influences on students’ behavioural intention. We further investigated two mediators, perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, to examine to what extent they had effects on students’ intention. Questionnaire data were collected from 282 university students who participated in a science service project. A structural equation model (SEM) procedure was used to test the direct and indirect relationships between the variables. The results showed that both self-efficacy and science trust had direct influences on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. The two mediators also had direct effects on students’ behavioural intention. Nevertheless, as a mediating variable, only perceived ease of use effectively mediated the relationships between both self-efficacy and science trust and students’ behavioural intention. Findings of this research could provide some suggestions to enhance students’ behavioural intention for institutions where science service learning is a required project/programme.

Crops produced using recombinant DNA technology have invaluable food security roles but are not broadly accepted. Food insecurity affects between 45% and 50% of the Ghanaian populace, while the debate to adopt, accept, use, and commercialize genetically modified (GM) crops is ongoing. In this study, a choice-based conjoint experimental design was adopted to investigate factors driving the acceptance or rejection of GM crops in Ghana. Results from average marginal component effect estimation suggest that safety concern is the major driver for accepting or rejecting GM crops. This was further confirmed using predicted probabilities and marginal means estimation of community acceptance especially when it possesses certain attributes. The safer the GM crop is perceived for human consumption, health, and environment, the more likely the Ghanaian populace will accept it. In addition, yield and taste were observed to be other key driving factors to accept GM crops. Importantly, the country of patency was also observed to be a critical driving factor for whether or not a GM crop is accepted in Ghana. There is a need for active and greater engagement with the Ghanaian populace to put proper legislation, regulations, policies, and knowledge co-creation process to ensure the proper use of GM crops. © 2024 The Authors. Distillation aqueous byproducts are discarded despite being rich in bioactive components. In this study, the aqueous byproducts (hydrolats and flask water fractions) resulting from the hydrodistillation of fresh and dry mint leaves were compared, with a primary focus on their essential oil yield and bioactive properties. Dry mint leaves yielded approximately eight times more essential oil than fresh leaves. The hydrolat extracted from dried mint leaves (MHD) exhibited higher phenolics (35.5 ± 1.1^d mg GAE/100 mL), flavonoids (7.8 ± 0.29^d mg QE/100 mL) and 2,2-diphenylpicrylhydrazyl scavenging potential (21.13%), compared to the hydrolat derived from fresh leaves (MHF), which had lower values (7.115 ± 0.9^e mg GAE/100 mL, 5.72 ± 0.422^d mg QE/100 mL and 6.79%, respectively). Similarly, the flask water fraction from dry mint leaves (FWF2) had a higher concentration of bioactive compounds compared to that from fresh leaves (FWF1). The hydrolat with higher bioactivity (MHD) was selected for infusion to develop a flavored drink and its GCMS profile indicated a relatively abundant presence of D-Carvone. The flavored drink prepared with a 20:100 ratio of hydrolat was preferred for its flavor intensity, a key sensory parameter for determining the hydrolat amount. Additionally, for Gum Arabic, a 2.5:100 ratio in the drink resulted in a more acceptable consistency score. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.

Background: Parenting stress has grown dramatically as a result of the pandemic, according to a systematic analysis that compared parenting styles and mental health-related factors before and during COVID-19. Regarding the COVID-19 epidemic, parents reported feeling more stressed. This included anxiety about their kids' health and safety, financial hardships, and interruptions to their regular routines and support networks. Furthermore, the analysis revealed that the pandemic had a detrimental effect on parents' mental health, with greater rates of anxiety, sadness, and overall psychological distress among parents. These findings demonstrate the intricate interactions that exist between personal variables and exogenous stressors like the pandemic that affect parenting stress. The COVID-19 pandemic and other external stressors, financial hardships, and marital status are only a few of the variables that might affect parenting stress overall. Consequently, while analyzing parenting stress, creating parent support interventions, and contrasting pre- and post-COVID-19 patterns, it is imperative to take these diverse elements into account. Method: This study includes material from three well-known databases that are used by scholars all around the world: Scopus, Web of Science (WOS), and Google Scholar. The records were screened during the review process using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) methodology. Results: We evaluated 10,053 abstracts and titles found through Google Scholar and database searches. After a complete text screening of 253 publications, 18 research were included in our study. According to the data retrieved from every database, the research questions in this study are multidisciplinary in nature, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of healthcare and the development of new healthcare technologies. Purpose: A major paradigm shift focusing on the dark side of leadership has generated lots of concern for organizations as leadership has cascading effects on employees’ behaviour. This study aims to understand negative behaviours in the organization as a system of interrelated interaction initiated from the top which trickles down to employees. Design/methodology/approach: Drawing on the theories of social exchange and norms of reciprocity, social learning and displaced aggression, this study models how and when abusive supervision relates to employees’ task performance. The model is empirically tested and extended to cover mediation and moderation processes. Drawing data from 218 bank supervisors and employees, this study uses the structural equation modelling to analyse a trickle-down model of abusive supervision. Findings: Results from multi-waved, multi-sourced data indicated a mediating effect on the abusive supervision–performance relationships and provided support for employees’ guilt proneness and emotional dissonance as moderators. Overall, the results provided support for a moderated mediation relationship in the trickle-down model. Originality/value: This study provides new knowledge into the potential boundary conditions of employees’ guilt proneness and emotional dissonance in affecting the relationship between abusive supervision, counterproductive work behaviour and task performance. © 2020, Hannah Vivian Osei, Felicity Asiedu-Appiah and Perpetual Akosuah Anyimaduah Amoah.

The decision makers of every business firm take strenuous efforts to achieve the target of sales promotion using different marketing strategies. In recent times, advertising is becoming one of the most preferred and adopted marketing techniques to reach customers at larger magnitude. The business firms irrespective of their production sizes and scales associate with various advertising agencies to familiarize their products to the customers. The advertising strategic approach of marketing also gives rise to a decision-making problem on the optimal choice of advertising agencies as the wrong selection of the agencies harms the sales. This research paper intends to propose a decision making (DM) model integrating both multi–criteria decision methods and machine learning algorithms to make optimal selection of advertising agencies. The proposed DM model considers 25 alternatives of advertising agencies, six criteria, linguistic analytic hierarchy process (LAHP) and random forest algorithm for ranking the advertising agencies. The machine learning (ML) algorithm identifies the feasible alternatives with the help of criterion weights obtained using the method of LAHP. This method is more compatible as it minimizes the risks of decision making by grouping the alternatives into two groups of acceptance and rejection based on their likelihood. The computations are done using Python programming language especially in Google Colabs.

Behavioral-pattern exploration and development of an instructional tool for young children to learn AI

This study aimed at developing an instructional tool for the artificial intelligence education of young students, and used learning analytics to identify the sequential learning behavioral patterns of students during the process of learning with the instructional tool. The instructional experiment took 9 weeks. The first stage of the course was 5 weeks spent on individual learning of MIT App Inventor and Personal Image Classifier. The second stage was 4 weeks spent on cooperative learning to make a robot car and play a computational thinking board game. In the second stage, the students worked in pairs to make the robot car. Finally, they played the computational thinking board game with the personal image classification application they developed in the first stage and the robot car they made in the second stage. The innovative studies found meaningful behavioral patterns when the young students learned the application of artificial intelligence with the instructional tool developed and proposed in the study. © 2021 The Author(s)
