Backoff algorithm is a technique to reduce packet collisions and to improve throughput efficiency in wireless local area network (WLAN). In this research, we propose a new backoff algorithm which is named Binary Exponential Increment Half Decrement (BEIHD) backoff algorithm. Furthermore, we introduce a new discrete Markov chain model for modeling the performance analysis of wireless local area network. A new model is called the Fixed Backoff stages and Fixed Contention windows (FBFC) technique. In FBFC scheme, the accuracy of the transmission probability parameter is derived from step by step procedure using the global balance equation concept in steady state condition. The saturated throughput efficiency of all backoff algorithms is compared under the same Physical layer (PHY) parameters and Medium Access Control (MAC) scheme in IEEE802.11a/b/g standards. Our numerical results show that the throughput performance of BEIHD backoff algorithm is better than the Binary Exponential Backoff (BEB) algorithm. Moreover, the distinction of BEIHD backoff algorithm is near the realistic system, and it can be implemented without to modify hardware in physical layer.

Recent study shows that optical code-division multiple-access (CDMA) networks cannot be evaluated or designed by only considering the performance (i.e., correlation properties) of the optical pseudo-orthogonal codes selected. The structures of optical encoders and decoders are another important factors to consider and are needed to coordinate with the selected optical codes as much as possible. A special family of 2/sup n/ codes, so-called 2/sup n/ prime-sequence codes, is constructed. A general theorem on the cardinality of the new codes is provided. The properties and performance of the codes are also studied. Since these codes pose the algebraic properties of both prime-sequence and 2/sup n/ codes, new optical encoding and decoding structures are designed to optimize the system parameters (e.g., power budget and cost) of these optical CDMA networks. This new configuration is particularly attractive for ultrafast optical processing and waveguide implementation for tile future high-capacity, low-loss, all-optical CDMA networks.

Non-synonymous single nucleotide polymorphisms (nsSNPs), also known as missense SNPs, can seriously affect an individual’s vulnerability to numerous diseases, including cancer. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive in-silico analysis to examine the structural and functional implications of nsSNPs within the Folate Hydrolase 1(FOLH1) gene, which encodes the Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA). A total of 504 SNPs were retrieved, and after filtering, 15 pathogenic nsSNPs were identified using five different in-silico tools. Three of these SNPs—R255H (rs375565491), R255C (rs201789325), and G168E (rs267602926)—were consistently predicted to be pathogenic across all in-silico tools. MutPred2 was used to predict the structural and functional consequences of the identified mutations. The analysis revealed multiple alterations in the PSMA protein, including changes in helical conformations, glycosylation patterns, transmembrane properties, and solvent accessibility. Furthermore, I-Mutant 2.0 analysis demonstrated a decrease in protein stability for most nsSNPs, except for rs267602926 (G168E), which was predicted to increase stability. Conservation analysis using ConSurf revealed varying degrees of amino acid conservation, with R255H and R255C identified as highly conserved residues, indicating their potential functional and structural significance. Additionally, post-translational modification (PTM) analysis indicated that while phosphorylation and methylation sites remained unchanged, specific glycosylation sites were lost in two pathogenic mutant variants (R255H and R255C), potentially affecting PSMA function and adversely impacting prostate cancer. Our findings highlight the importance of in silico studies to investigate the structural and functional impacts of FOLH1 nsSNPs on the PSMA protein. Such in silico studies can deepen our understanding of the roles of nsSNPs in prostate cancer onset, progression, and drug resistance.

Magnetization dynamic of exchange bias IrMn/NiFe bilayers system were investigated. Samples with fixed ferromagnetic (FM) layer thickness of 25 nm and antiferromagnetic (AFM) layer thickness tAFM of 5, 10, 15 and 20 nm were deposited by dc-magnetron sputtering on buffered silicon substrates. The static exchange bias field extracted from the magnetization curves increased at the beginning with increasing AFM layer thickness then slightly decreased. The dynamic behavior was studied from the ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) spectra of the samples under external magnetic field in the range 50-750 Oe. The linewidth versus frequency was found to have two distinct slope regions for the samples with high exchange bias values. The damping coefficient at frequencies up to about 7 GHz is found to be generated from the intrinsic linewidth broadening and it has a similar tendency to the exchange bias field with increasing AFM layer thickness. At higher frequencies, the damping coefficient is generated from the extrinsic contributions to the linewidth broadening and its behavior with increasing AFM layer thickness follows the dynamic anisotropy. © 2011 IEEE.

Electric, water, gas and transportation utilities face severe challenges associated with security, quality, availability, reliability and profitability issues. They must solve interrelated system problems with respect to generation of electricity, transportation of fuel, and potable as well as waste water. In the future, engineers and managers of utilities must be well versed in the different disciplines of engineering including electrical civil, mechanical and information technology. The University of Colorado at Boulder addresses this educational opportunity by proposing a novel Integrated Utilities Management program for M.S. candidates who have a solid B.S. background or equivalent in a related discipline. The M.S. program will consist of four interdisciplinary paths dealing with business management and legal topics as they relate to federal and state regulatory issues, as well as agency and people-related leadership issues. The electric utilities option of this program will be centered on three core courses related to electric power generation/transmission and distribution, security and availability, quality and reliability, economics and environmental policy, and utility finance;two elective courses from a group of courses that address nuclear power, waste water, solid waste, telecommunications, renewable energies, data communication, fuels and case studies;and one capstone course consisting of either operations research or the investigation and resolution of a pending utility project such as the right-of-way of transmission lines, specification of new power plants, retrofitting of power plants or their impact on the environment. It is expected that candidates for this MS program will come from universities, from utilities, and from private and public agencies. Since the initial launch of 5G networks in 2018, 5G technology has rapidly expanded to cover about 40% of the world's population, offering higher bandwidth, faster connectivity, and lower latency than 4G. However, due to its higher frequency operation, 5G necessitates more frequent handovers, making efficient handover performance crucial. This research focuses on enhancing handover efficiency by predicting user movement using Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) models for multi-step-ahead prediction. The model created will utilize 60 seconds of historical data to predict 10 seconds ahead, with a target to achieve an average prediction accuracy of less than 20 meters with a latency under 100 ms. The study employs TensorFlow for model training, leveraging the Grab-Posisi dataset, and utilizes Plotly and TensorBoard for result visualization. Six model variations were trained, with the 16-unit model trained for 3106 epochs performing best, achieving 16.99 meters accuracy and 31 ms latency. The findings suggest that LSTM is effective for predicting user movement in 5G networks, with potential accuracy improvements through extended training epochs.

In optical CDMA networks using a prime code, the code weight is always equal to the number of codewords M. When M is very large, the resulting cost and power loss of optical CDMA encoder/correlator can be very high. To overcome this difficulty, an efficient design is presented for optical CDMA networks, by using the modified prime codes.

Medical images segmentation is an important work for object recognition of the human organs and it is an important pre-processing step in medical image segmentation and 3D reconstruction. Conventionally, segmentation is detected according to some early brought forward algorithms such as gradient-based algorithm and template-based algorithm, but they are not so good for noise medical image segmentation. In this paper, basic morphological theory and operations are introduced at first, and then a novel morphological segmentation algorithm is proposed to detect the segment of mammographic masses with salt-and-pepper noise. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is more efficient for medical image denoising and segmentation than the usually used template-based segmentation algorithms and general morphological segmentation algorithms.

A Mammography Database and Viewer System have collected and stored mammography images of Thai women, treated at the Radiology department of Hospital in Rangsit, Pathumtani, Thailand, constructed a database using the digitized mammography images, and developed an image viewing system to display these digital mammograms. The images are stored with the high resolution Matrox Morphis (MOR/2VD/84*) frame grabber board. The digital mammography database is powered by MySQL and PHP. It also has a web-based search engine (with secure access) so that the information can be made accessible to all medical team members. The image viewing software, DICOM Viewer, is coded in Borland C++ Builder and is intended to help medical professionals view and retrieve large data sets in near real time. This have already digitized 200 cases (one case per patient, twenty to forty images per case). The system also have developed a MySQL-based image database, and a PHP-based web-search engine to retrieve cases that have masses (benign or malignant) or calcifications (benign or malignant). This database has been evaluated by medical professionals and the experimental results obtained so far are very promising (high image qualities, fast access time). The system are currently developing an image content-based retrieval function for the database system in order to provide improved search capability for the medical professionals.
