This contribution presents results of the MPEG verification test that was carried out for the new Scalable Video Coding (SVC) Amendment of H.264/AVC. The test consisted of a series of subjective comparisons of SVC and single layer H.264/AVC coding for different application scenarios including conversational applications, broadcasting over mobile channels, and HD broadcasting. The results show that a reasonable degree of spatial and quality scalability can be supported with a bit rate overhead of less than or about 10% and an indistinguishable visual quality compared to the state of the art single layer coding. This paper describes the coding conditions, the test procedure, and presents the results of the SVC verification test.

Traditional methods for nonlinear dy-namic analysis,such as correlation dimension,Lyapunov exponent,approximate entropy,detrended fluctuation analysis,using a single parameter,cannot fully describe the extremely sophisticated behavior of electroencephalogram (EEG). The multifractal for-malism reveals more “hidden” information of EEG by using singularity spectrum to characterize its nonlin-ear dynamics. In this paper,the zero-crossing time intervals of sleep EEG were studied using multifractal analysis. A new multifractal measure Δasα was pro-posed to describe the asymmetry of singularity spec-trum,and compared with the singularity strength range Δα that was normally used as a degree indi-cator of multifractality. One-way analysis of variance and multiple comparison tests showed that the new measure we proposed gave better discrimination of sleep stages,especially in the discrimination be-tween sleep and awake,and between sleep stages 3 and 4.

Digital contents show great advantages in terms of storage and processing. Furthermore, they can be reproduced without loss of quality, and allow for easy and imperceptible modifications. However, this will have its problems. In fact, intellectual properties are becoming harder to protect and so are original contents. That's why we need new techniques to be developed such as image watermarking. In this paper, we present a new scheme of image watermarking to guard intellectual properties and to secure the content of digital images. Our developed algorithm was also tested against image compression, with its standards: JPEG and JPEG2000.
