The field of traction control has made significant progress in the past decade being reported many automotive applications. In this paper, based on advanced control techniques from literature, it is presented a dynamic simulator for traction control created in LabVIEW. The application was built starting with two algorithms which allow the implementation of a control system for the traction devices of an electric vehicle. In the first stage, the block diagram of the vehicle model was developed using an one wheel model which is based on the longitudinal motion equations. In the next step, this model was used to develop two control traction systems based on Maximum Transmissible Torque Estimation (MTTE) control approach and, respectively, sliding mode control. Comparing the results of these two control methods, it is possible to conclude which of them is more reliable. Incorporating all three described subsystems in a single module, a simulator with a graphical interface, easy to be used, was developed. The simulator offers the possibility to automatically save the graphical results like image files and also to generate a report in a single Excel document with the data of interest.

This paper presents a non-cooperative distributed model predictive control algorithm used in cyber-physical systems for two agent systems coupled through the inputs. Each agent computes the optimal input trajectory for its corresponding subsystem as the minimum of a local optimization problem. The input trajectory of the neighbor, which is used in the local optimization problem, is obtained based on the previous optimal control sequence and is received in a communication session. After that, the optimization problem is solved and the optimal input is sent to the process. This approach is computationally efficient because the communication between the two agents is reduced at minimum (only one session each sampling period) and the optimal input is obtained solving one optimization problem thus diminishing the overall computational time. The algorithm was implemented in Matlab and the obtained performances were compared with a cooperative distributed model predictive control strategy. Both methods were tested in simulation on a quadruple tanks process and the results recommend the non-cooperative strategy which has similar results with less computational requirements.

This paper presents a passivity based torque control structure for a high power Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) used in Electric Vehicles (EV). A comparative study is done with a parallel PI algorithm in terms of response time, settling time, stationary error and required input electrical energy to reach the desired operating point. Moreover, parameters variations are simulated in order to evaluate the performance of the Passivity Based control (PBC) scheme. In both control structures, the angular speed loop is controlled through a parallel PI algorithm. First, the mathematical model of PMSM is obtained in terms of Euler-Lagrange (EL) formalism which is the starting point for the passivity based torque controller design. This is followed by the damping injection and the re-modeling of the closed loop energy storage function in order to achieve passivity and asymptotic stability. Finally, the desired currents are derived from the torque request provided in the outer speed control loop. The algorithms are numerically simulated in MATLAB-Simulink.

Our paper proposes a framework that allows the construction of several types of diagonal Lyapunov functions for discrete- and continuous-time interval systems. The Lyapunov function candidates are defined as weighted vector norms, where the weighting matrices are diagonal and positive definite. For the existence of such Lyapunov functions, we provide necessary and sufficient conditions in the case of 1 and ℝ norms, as well as two sufficient conditions in the case of 2-norm. The results offer construction procedures focusing on diagonal Lyapunov functions with the fastest decreasing rate, fact that also ensures the identification of the fastest contractive invariant sets shaped in accordance with the aforementioned norms. The exposition covers the discrete- and continuous-time dynamics, in parallel, aiming to emphasize both similarities and differences between the two types of results. The applicability of the theoretical developments is illustrated by a numerical example.

The speed control of electric machines employed in automotive electrical traction drives is a challenging problem. Indeed, these applications are subject to physical and computational constraints. This paper addresses this challenging problem by employing a multi-rate predictive cascade state-space control structure, focusing on the design of the outer loop controller. Firstly, the mathematical model for the outer loop control, including also the dynamics of the inner control loop, is obtained. Secondly, a model predictive control approach based on a flexible control Lyapunov function is employed to control the rotor speed. Thirdly, in order to obtain the unmeasured state and the torque load a state and disturbance observer is employed. As a consequence, offset-free operation of the control system is also obtained. A realistic simulation scenario using a previously validated model and comparison with a linear quadratic regulator scheme are considered in order to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

The proposed Pareto ranking scheme is meant for the selection of parents and survivors in multi-objective evolutionary optimizations. Commonly, the Pareto methods use just the dominance analysis in order to provide the partial sorting of solutions, without taking into account the specific strength of the conflict detected between objectives. This can generate undesired effects, such as the loss of diversity or the excessive spread of solutions induced by too weakly or too strongly conflicting criteria, respectively. For counteracting these disadvantages, the suggested approach adapts the ranking policies with respect to the distribution of the population in the objective space. The first innovation of the paper resides in the way in which the layout of the available solutions is examined. The analysis is based on clustering, followed by the Pareto-ranking of the resulted centers. The centers belonging to the best fronts are then used to depict the preferred searching area and to decide if the diversity of the solutions requires improvement. In this regard, the second contribution supports the diversification of the preferred solutions via rank adjustments. The suggested ranking algorithm is experimentally verified on several synthetic multi-objective optimizations and a multi-objective robot path planning. The testing scenarios exemplify different layouts of the Pareto fronts for diverse conflictive relationships between the two objectives.

In this work is presented a new hardware implementation of a high speed logic analyzer inside FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) chips that is fully autonomous by directly driving a VGA compatible computer monitor for multiple signals display. It can be used as a very low cost and real time testing instrument for both external hardware and internal FPGA designs. The implementation is optimized at schematic level by proposing an innovative solution called BERC (Begin-End-Reset-Cell) as hardware digital filter that eliminates any magnitude or equality comparators usually inferred from hardware description languages to decode the counters signals. This new technique is much more efficient because it reduces the combinatorial resources to a minimum, and it can be generalized for all kind of video interfaces.

Printed circuit boards (PCBs) that represent a significant part of electronic waste are potential sources of material and energy. In the paper we focused on study of a cutting as an alternative method of conductive ways separating from plastic board as one of stages of the printed circuit board recycling procedure. High velocity of cutting belt is connected with enormous heat production. Due to the generation of high temperatures may lead to caking of separated components of metal and plastic materials. For this reason we formulated mathematic model of the cutting process and on the base we can determine of temperature fields in PCB materials during cutting. Of courses of them we can calculate the heat intensity and consequently the critical velocity of cut ting belt without damage of PCB materials.

The paper proposes a simple Takagi-Sugeno PI-fuzzy controller for an anaerobic digestion process. A fifth order nonlinear model of the anaerobic digestion process is first presented. A second order linear model of the process is next proposed, and the parameters of the linear model are obtained from an optimization problem solved by a Gravitational Search Algorithm. A PI controller is designed for the linear process model using a frequency domain approach in terms of imposing the phase margin. The Takagi-Sugeno PI-fuzzy controller is designed on the basis of the linear PI controller. The Takagi-Sugeno PI-fuzzy controller is validated by simulation using the nonlinear process model in the fuzzy control system.

The DC-link voltage control of electric machines employed in hybrid electric vehicles is a challenging problem, subject to several physical and computational constraints. This paper answer to these challenges by employing a multi-rate predictive cascade state-space control structure with focus on the design of the outer loop voltage controller. Firstly, the mathematical model, including also the dynamics of the inner current control loop, is obtained and linearized. Secondly, a one-step ahead model predictive controller based on a flexible control Lyapunov function is employed to control the DC-link voltage. The load current and the unmeasured state are obtained by using a state and disturbance observer, helping to achieve also off-set-free operation. A simulation scenario, including a comparison with a linear quadratic regulator scheme, is employed to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
