The paper presents a new gateway algorithm designed for multi-domain controller Area Network (CAN) systems which require to exchange large amount of data between numerous CAN units. The approach is compliant with any hierarchical CAN based distributed architecture, being tailored to efficiently manage CAN domains interconnected by gateways. The communication topologies are encrypted as graphs, aiming a flexible further utilization, increased scalability and a reduce memory consumption. For every handled CAN message, the gateways are enabled to provide a dynamic determination of the fastest available path and to correct buses overloading by appropriate message routing. The gateway algorithm exploits the OSEK event driven scheduling algorithm with static priorities to handle the necessary communication tasks. As consequence, the proposed approach provides increased responsiveness, as well as a good traffic balance between the CAN domains, without the need of transmitting additional messages, as demonstrated on two study cases involving distributed architectures of different complexity orders.

The basic function of any type of electric machine used in automotive powertrain is to propel the automobile in motor mode or to recharge the high-voltage battery in generator mode. The torque control of electric machine in motor and generator modes, using more efficient high-voltage battery, is a goal for automotive industry. The entire control structure must be designed so as to take into account also the limitations of the computer based implementation in an Electronic control Unit. A good choice for Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), due to many advantages, is the Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (IPMSM). In this paper, a model for a 35 KW IPMSM used by a future HEV is presented. Starting from the developed model a dynamic simulator was implemented in MATLAB/SIMULINK and then, an optimal field oriented control strategy is applied with aims at optimum torque control both in constant torque region and in constant power region, considering the variation of machine parameters. The model was validated against the data provided by Continental Automotive Romania from the system testbench. The simulated results obtained with the proposed control strategy are compared with the ones obtained with the classical PID approach and the results show improved performances.

This paper presents a new approach meant to provide an automatic design of feed forward neural models by means of multiobjective graph genetic programming. The suggested algorithm can deal with partially interconnected neural architectures and various types of global and local neurons within each hidden neural layer. It concomitantly ensures the reduction of variables and the selection of convenient model structures and parameters, by working on a set of graph-based encrypted individuals built via genetic programming with the guarantee of phenotypic and genotypic validity. In order to provide a realistic assessment of the neural models, the optimization is carried out subject to multiple objectives of different priorities. In relation to this idea, the authors propose a new Pareto-ranking strategy, which progressively guides the search towards the preferred zones of the exploration space. The fitness assignment procedure monitors the phenotypic diversity of the best individuals, as well as the convergence speed of the algorithm, and exploits the resulted heuristics for performing a preliminary clustering of individuals. The experimental trials targeting the identification of an industrial system show the capacity of the suggested approach to automatically build simple and precise models, whilst dealing with noisy data and scarce a priori information.

For a timed continuous Petri net (TCPN), the paper introduces a new concept of boundedness based on the existence of (positive) invariant sets with respect to the marking of the net, sets that are defined by weighted Hölder p-norms. For join-free TCPNs, this type of boundedness is characterized by inequalities satisfied by the measure of the matrix that defines the dynamics of the marking. Some connections with the structural properties of the net topology are also delivered.

The automotive systems contain fast processes that implies fast sampling rate. Moreover, the existing digital hardware contains processing registers that have finite precision and therefore, the representation can be restricted to a finite number of bits. Predictive control strategy in discrete δ domain, State Space δ Generalised Predictive control, in particular, referred as SS δ GPC algorithm, can bring significant improvements in terms of choosing a small sampling period combined with finite word length representation. The aim of this paper is to emphasize the advantages of the SS δ GPC algorithm, compared to the classical GPC strategy for different word length representation.

Driveability, the ability to quickly respond to drivers action and a high degree of driving comfort is expected in a modern vehicle. Predictive control strategy in the discrete δ domain, in particular State Space δ GPC algorithm, reffered as SS δ GPC can bring significant improvements in terms of choosing a small sampling period. Moreover, this study is particularly relevant for implementation of control design on embedded systems, where the representation can be restricted to a finite number of bits. A δ state space affine model of automotive transmission system is used in order to illustrate the performances of the GPC design in the δ domain. The SS δ GPC is demonstrated to improve on the system response when it is compared with classical GPC using shift operator.

The problem considered in this paper is to damp out the longitudinal driveline oscillations that appear during gearshift, while traversing backlash or when tip-in and tip-out maneuvers are performed. MPC is increasingly seen as an attractive technology, as such, a one step ahead robust and efficient predictive controller is proposed, based on a flexible control Lyapunov functions. The algorithm has the potential to satisfy the timing requirements for a real-time control application, due to the short horizon, while it can still offer a non-conservative solution to stabilization due to the flexibility of the Lyapunov function.

The paper presents a new approach to data-driven modeling. The models are flexibly configured in compliance with the neural network formalism, by accepting partially interconnected structures and various types of global and local neurons within each hidden neural layer. A simultaneous selection of convenient model structure and parameters is performed, making use of multiobjective graph genetic programming. For an efficient assessment of individuals, the authors suggest a new Pareto-ranking strategy, which permits a progressive combination between search and decision, tailored to handle objectives of different priorities. The experiments carried out for the identification of an industrial system show the capacity of the proposed approach to automatically build simple and precise models, whilst dealing with noisy data and poor aprioric information.

The paper proposes a new approximation method for the upper and lower bounds of the real parts of interval matrix eigenvalues. As a theoretical support, we exploit the properties of the matrix measures corresponding to monotonic (or, equivalently, absolute) vector norms. The numerical approach focuses on the use of the results derived for the matrix measure defined by the Euclidean norm (or 2-norm). The computational procedure is formulated as a minimization problem of a linear objective function constrained by bilinear matrix inequalities. We prove (by mathematical arguments and, separately, by examples) that our estimations are better or, at least, as accurate as those provided by the method due to Rohn (see reference [6]).

The paper presents a new embedded networked controller designed for vehicle driveline oscillations damping. To benefit of increased safety and predictability, the controller's algorithm is developed under OSEK/VDX real-time operating system. The implementation is tailored to fit available embedded architecture's resources. Main challenge refers to the configuration of accepted delays, taking into account the required memory consumption and execution times. The controller supports asynchronous exchanges of data, being able to handle certain communication delays. The discrete-time model of the closed-loop controller area network (CAN) based system is obtained by means of polytopic approximation techniques. The suggested embedded controller is designed according to one step ahead predictive control algorithm with flexible control Lyapunov function, assuming that the model admits polytopic uncertainty and hard constraints. If the Lyapunov function is appropriately chosen, the command computation involves solving a single linear program at each sampling period. The proposed approach is experimentally verified using an industrial test-bench setup consisting of a Freescale based electronic control unit (which implements the controller) linked via a CAN bus with a dSPACE MicroAutoBox plant simulator.
