Significant research effort has been directed towards developing vehicle systems that reduce the energy consumption of an automobile and because pressure control valves are used as actuators in many control applications for automotive systems, a proper dynamic model is necessary. Starting from equations found in literature, where a single stage pressure reducing valve is modelled, in this paper, the concept of modeling a real three land three way solenoid valve actuator for the clutch system in the automatic transmission is presented. Two simulators for an input-output model and a state-space model were developed and these were validated with data provided from experiments with the real valve actuator on a test bench.

Some points regarding the design and implementation of holonic manufacturing systems are presented. As the holonic approach supposes a distributed architecture regarding both planning and execution, certain methods and techniques of multi-agent systems can be used. These need specific adaptations, and the paper is focused on describing how the planning solution is conceived in order to obtain the proper coordination in the holonic system and the way communication can be solved using a CORBA based service oriented architecture. The proposed scheme is exemplified in the case of the resource holonspsila materialization. The developed architecture was tested on a manufacturing system with real industrial equipment. The respective system and the considered manufacturing scenarios constitute a valuable testbed for the validation of the holonic method.

The paper proposes a new method for sensorial integration within manufacturing systems. The control scheme is a holonic one, namely a PROSA reference architecture is considered. Some principles regarding the way the coordination and planning mechanisms have to be adapted for an enhanced sensorial integration are investigated. These refer a plan-space planning approach that operates with partially specified plans, and an extended form of the contract net protocol used to manage the holons' agents cooperation activities. The agent based implementation, which was made in the Jack software environment, was a further support for the sensorial information use by the holonic system deliberative components.

The holonic manufacturing systems represent both a modern approach to the manufacturing control problems and an open research area. The present contribution aims at establishing some design and implementation points regarding the resource holons in a PROSA based architecture. The proposed scheme makes use of JACK agents, which have their execution model appropriately adapted. The developed approach was tested on a manufacturing system with real industrial equipment, allowing a few conclusions to be derived.

In this paper an approach to visual control robot manipulator using image moments is presented. The main part of any image based control system, the interaction matrix, is derived using image moments. A Matlab implementation of the image based control algorithm, tests and validation are presented. Stages were conducted using synthetic images and also real ones. An ABB robot with 6 degrees of freedom and an eye-in-hand camera configuration was considered to run the experiments in real time. The results show that the image moments have high performance in visual servoing applications.
