In the context of the development of wireless networks in the field of connected vehicles, platooning becomes more common on the road, and vehicular safety communication is crucial to ensure driver and passenger safety. Communication between vehicles within platoons relies on Dedicated Short-Range Communication (DSRC) and Cooperative Adaptive Cruise control (CACC). The DSRC allows vehicles to communicate by exchanging safety information like location, speed, and acceleration. As a result, the CACC control solution maintains a speed-independent inter-vehicle distance of the followers’ vehicles based on this information. The platoon systems are susceptible to data packet loss that determine delayed and incomplete responses which can lead to collisions or other safety issues. This paper analyzes indicators such as the distance between platoon members, the front delay, and the relative speed of vehicles that have an impact on vehicular safety communication.

This paper discusses a robust torque and speed control strategy for an In-wheel Brushless DC Synchronous Machine (IWBLDC). In addition, we introduce a novel processing pipeline to increase the precision of angle measurement from a reduced set of square-wave Hall sensors. The disturbances in the electrical subsystem, including the trapezoidal back-electromotive force, are estimated with a disturbance observer. We add a correction term to ensure the rejection of variations of parameters and cancel coupling effects between the stator axis. The algorithm is executed on the digital signal processor TMS320f28379d and validated on a test bench equipped with a 500W nominal power IWBLDC.

The growing concerns about the resource sustainability and environmental impact of deploying billions or trillions of IoT devices in the various sectors of society or economy have given rise to an energy research field known as Green-IoT (G-IoT). G-IoT emphasises the need to prioritise energy efficiency and the reduction of pollution in the IoT ecosystem. This paper presents a Markov model for a self-powered Green IoT device with state-dependent energy consumption. The model evaluates the energy performance of a self-powered Green IoT device. We derive the probability distribution of the energy content of the battery, including the probability that the energy stored in the battery is completely depleted and the density of the lifetime of the IoT device. We investigate the influence of some design parameters on the results. Introducing the threshold at which the device is forced to enter an energy-saving regime significantly increases a G-IoT device's lifetime. Apart from deploying energy-efficient mechanisms to increase the lifetime of a G-IoT device, integrating an efficient energy harvesting system into the device will increase its lifetime and reduce the frequency of battery replacement.

Vehicles are a common topic and of great interest in the modern society in which we live. Their automation and the implementation of mechanisms and functionalities make driving easier and easier. The desire to completely exclude driving for every individual who owns a car has captured the interest of engineers and scientists in the automotive field. This paper aims to present such an algorithm that calculates a profile of the maximum velocity with which the car can travel on a certain trajectory. To illustrate the accuracy and to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, three different scenarios were implemented. For each scenario, three maximum speeds were given with which the car can travel, to demonstrate that regardless of its power, each maneuver will be completed with the same minimum speed. To control the dynamical system, an advanced control method, the predictive control strategy, was implemented, which generated satisfactory results in each presented case.

Clustering vehicles in a platoon by exchanging information through communication networks leads to an improvement in their performance with a moderate cooperation effort. In particular, in this paper, a bio-inspired methodology for overlapping coalitions of vehicles is proposed, which optimizes communication and control performance. The results obtained using the proposed adaptive clusters method are compared with the ones obtained by a conventional coalitional control strategy, and the comparison illustrates the improved efficiency of the proposed method.

This paper explores the impact of the burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) presence on distribution grid operations, highlighting the challenges they present to conventional pricing strategies due to their dual role as power consumers and suppliers, coupled with their energy storage capabilities. We propose an advanced real-time pricing model for the electricity market, employing a novel distributed bilevel optimization framework. This framework distinguishes between the distribution system operator (DSO) at the upper level and the EVs at the lower level, each aiming to optimize profit margins. The optimization includes power flow constraints at the upper level to ensure efficient operation within safe system limits, while model predictive control (MPC) is used to optimize lower-level EV responses. Additionally, we provide a rigorous convergence analysis of the proposed bilevel optimization method. Detailed convergence studies and simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed algorithm.
