We consider the use of wireless sensor networks to automatically track "perceptive pallets" of materials in warehouses for the purpose of monitoring volumetric and spatial constraints. A combination of radio frequency and ultrasound chirping produces position estimates that are noisy and prone to error. To address this, we measure and characterize the ultrasound response from standard "Cricket" wireless sensor motes and beacons. We develop a non-parametric particle filtering approach to estimate trajectories of moving motes and introduce two asymmetric observation models that incorporate measured cardioid-shaped response patterns of ultrasound. We use simulation to study the effects of mote placement: position error as a function of ceiling height and beacon density, and then perform physical experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of asymmetric vs. symmetric observation models for pallet tracking. Experiments suggest that asymmetric observation models can improve position estimates by as much as 11%.

The major difficulty concerning echocardiograph image processing is speckle noise. In this paper, we present wavelet based algorithm for denoising echocardiograph images and then determine an optimal wavelet filter that yields good quality images. The log transformed input is represented in multiscale wavelet domain. Global hard thresholding of subband coefficients is performed to achieve lossy compression of image. The inverse wavelet transformed image is free from speckle noise. The image quality is assessed in terms of objective and statistical measures, namely, peak-signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), compression ratio, variance, mean square error (MSE). The experiments are performed using different wavelets at various levels of decomposition. The results show that bior6.8 with 2- level decomposition yields better quality despeckled images.

One way of conserving the scarce resources in a sensor network is to minimize the amount of data transmitted. This can be accomplished by data compression, aggregation or approximation. The current researches on sensor data compression mainly focus on lossless compression methods, they cannot achieve higher compression ratio than lossy data compression. In-network data aggregation and data approximation can be regarded as lossy data reduction methods. However, in-network data aggregation methods cannot record all the features of sensor data, thus queries referring to the historical data might not be answered. Moreover, the data cached in sensor networks should be used easily for answering queries. Based on the correlation and frequency spectrum analysis results of some types of slowly varying sensor data, we have presented two data approximation methods to reduce data transmission while make queries easy to answer. We have implemented these methods, tested on some real life data sets and compared with related methods. The results indicate that the algorithms are simple and deliver high data reduction ratios, while meeting the user's tolerance of errors

The RF characteristics of Mica-Z wireless unattended sensor motes were evaluated for military and commercial applications. The Mica-Z mote's propagation characteristics and network performance were measured under near free- space, indoor and outdoor environments to provide a comprehensive perspective of typical sensor network characteristics. Link break distance and re-association distance with their corresponding RF power measurements were recorded to determine the Mica-Z's range characteristics under different operating environments. Power Loss exponents were also estimated to provide Mica-Z users a faster and more convenient way to estimate operating ranges in the different environments. A graphical numeric electromagnetic code (GNEC) simulation was also used to investigate some of the possible improvements that could be made to the existing Mica- Z antenna design to enhance the performance of the sensor network. This paper substantiates the difficulties of operating such sensor networks in the most hostile environments. Although the analyses demonstrate that controlled deployment was possible to some extent, the effectiveness of random deployment remains challenging.

To provide channel protection and secure media transmission in digital pay-TV systems, lots of key distribution schemes were proposed in recent periods. Among these traditional schemes, the costs of secret key updates are quite heavy. That is, lots of messages are exchanged for the update of authorization keys. In 2004, Huang et al. proposed an efficient key distribution scheme for rating-oriented pay-TV systems. According to the definition of Motion Picture Association of America (MAPP), channel ratings are classified as five degrees: G (general), PG (parent guidance suggested), PG (parent strongly cautioned), R (restricted) and NC-17 (no one 17 under admitted). In Huang et al.'s scheme, a legal subscriber can watch programs on channels which are not higher than the subscribed rating. However, with deep insight into Huang's scheme, it still lacks efficiency. It is due to that the set-top box (STB) of the subscriber has to perform too many symmetric encryptions while the procedure of key updates is executed. In this article, we propose a novel version for rating-oriented pay-TV systems. Our scheme not only inherits the advantages of Huang et al.'s scheme but also possesses the efficiency better than that of other related works while the procedure of key updates is performed.

This paper concerns the design, implementation and sub-sequent experimental validation of a low-voltage analog CMOS switch based on a gate-bootstrapped method. The main part of the proposed circuit is a new low-voltage and low-stress CMOS clock voltage doubler. Through the use of a dummy switch, the charge injection induced by the bootstrapped switch is greatly reduced resulting in improved sample-and-hold accuracy. An important attribute of the design is that the ON-resistance is nearly constant. A test chip has been designed and fabricated using a TSMC 0.18 μm CMOS process (single poly, n-well) to confirm the operation of the circuit for a supply voltage of down to 0.65 V. The problem of identifying the sources of a denial of service (DoS) and distributed denial of services (DDoS) attack is hardest in the Internet security area, because attackers often use incorrect or spoofed source addresses of IP packets. IP traceback system is to identify the origin of IP packets when the source address of these packets is spoofed. In the traceback system, routers are playing vital role and also ISP (Internet Service Provider) involvement is required to trace the origin of the spoofed packets. Several approaches have been proposed to trace IP packets to their origin. Our aim is to evaluate and analyses the most promising traceback approaches with our proposed system. We have implemented using NS-2 simulator and also evaluated and summarized the results.

Simple configuration of RF module is proposed for passive millimeter-wave imaging system. The results of the detector design for the module are reported in this paper. A detector planar circuit and a waveguide horn antenna are connected by broadband microstrip-to-waveguide transition. A number of the antenna is arranged around the focal point of the lens, which results in the proposed RF module. Since the module forms a layer structure composed of substrate and machined flat metal plates, which contributes low-profile and easy manufacturing. Here, the structure of the proposed imaging module is described in detail. Next, the results of the detector design used in the proposed imaging module are described.
