Neural networks are commonly defined as ‘black-box’ models, meaning that the mechanism describing how they give predictions and perform decisions is not immediately clear or even understandable by humans. Therefore, Explainable Artificial Intelligence (xAI) aims at overcoming such limitation by providing explanations to Machine Learning (ML) algorithms and, consequently, making their outcomes reliable for users. However, different xAI methods may provide different explanations, both from a quantitative and a qualitative point of view, and the heterogeneity of approaches makes it difficult for a domain expert to select and interpret their result. In this work, we consider this issue in the context of a high-energy physics (HEP) use-case concerning muonic motion. In particular, we explored an array of xAI methods based on different approaches, and we tested their capabilities in our use-case. As a result, we obtained an array of potentially easy-to-understand and human-readable explanations of models’ predictions, and for each of them we describe strengths and drawbacks in this particular scenario, providing an interesting atlas on the convergent application of multiple xAI algorithms in a realistic context. © 2023, The Author(s).

Data poisoning attacks, where adversaries manipulate training data to degrade model performance, are an emerging threat as machine learning becomes widely deployed in sensitive applications. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of data poisoning including attack techniques, adversary incentives, impacts on security and reliability, detection methods, defenses, and key research gaps. We examine label flipping, instance injection, backdoors, and other attack categories that enable malicious outcomes ranging from IP theft to accidents in autonomous systems. Promising detection approaches include statistical tests, robust learning, and forensics. However, significant challenges remain in translating academic defenses like adversarial training and sanitization into practical tools ready for operational use. With safety and trustworthiness at stake, more research on benchmarking evaluations, adaptive attacks, fundamental tradeoffs, and real-world deployment of defenses is urgently needed. Understanding vulnerabilities and developing resilient machine learning pipelines will only grow in importance as data integrity is fundamental to developing safe artificial intelligence. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2023.

In terms of security and privacy,mobile ad-hoc network(MANET)continues to be in demand for additional debate and *** more MANET applications become data-oriented,implementing a secure and reliable data transfer protocol becomes a major concern in the ***,MANET’s lack of infrastructure,unpredictable topology,and restricted resources,as well as the lack of a previously permitted trust relationship among connected nodes,contribute to the attack detection burden.A novel detection approach is presented in this paper to classify passive and active black-hole *** proposed approach is based on the dipper throated optimization(DTO)algorithm,which presents a plausible path out of multiple paths for statistics transmission to boost MANETs’quality of service.A group of selected packet features will then be weighed by the DTO-based multi-layer perceptron(DTO-MLP),and these features are collected from nodes using the Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchical(LEACH)clustering *** is a powerful classifier and the DTO weight optimization method has a significant impact on improving the classification process by strengthening the weights of key features while suppressing the weights ofminor *** hybridmethod is primarily designed to combat active black-hole *** the LEACH clustering phase,however,can also detect passive black-hole *** effect of mobility variation on detection error and routing overhead is explored and evaluated using the suggested *** diverse mobility situations,the results demonstrate up to 97%detection accuracy and faster execution ***,the suggested approach uses an adjustable threshold value to make a correct conclusion regarding whether a node is malicious or benign.

Internet of Things (IoT) is a life changing technology which is build on various devices which are connected to the Internet. Wireless sensor nodes (WSN) is one of such devices which plays a major role in deploying IoT in large scale of real-time even monitoring applications. But the energy limitations of those sensor nodes limits the features of IoT networks. Hence improving the energy limitations in WSN plays a vital role in last decade. This chapter presents the possibilities of enhance the energy limitations of sensor nodes with renewable energy resources. The proposed integrated architecture of this proposed model discusses the implementation of sensor node with flexible solar energy harvester module, multi mode communication capability and multi sensor data module. The special contribution in this chapter includes the hardware specification with budget analysis, sleep-awake strategy to effective use of energy and maximum possible data collection from the environment. Timely pest detection and identification is critical as part of modern agriculture. Halyomorpha Halys is a prevalent pest with proven harmful impacts on numerous crops and agricultural regions. The paper proposes an efficient model to improve the detection of two invasive stink bugs: Halyomorpha halys and Nezara Viridula. Automatic detection of these two bugs is essential in various fields, such as precision agriculture and integrated pest management. The high performances obtained in the present study open new perspectives for the further development of insect pest detection systems and can serve as a basis for future modifications and improvements of these models. © 2023 IEEE.

Application of learning to collaborative tracking control of multi-agent systems has addressed a wealth of problems across transportation, manufacturing, rescue, aerospace and medical care areas. Iterative learning control algorithms have been proposed to address synergistic objectives in general optimization problems, achieving a transparent balance between convergence speed, tracking error and robustness. This paper builds on this framework by formulating a point-to-point strategy that allows each subsystem to track only a portion of the trajectory, thereby providing a more flexible design framework with broad utility. Moreover, a channel tracking strategy is developed to ensure that the total output during untracked intervals is limited to an a specified range. The practicality of this novel control framework is illustrated through derivation, simulation and evaluation of three new iterative learning laws: inverse, gradient and norm-optimal. Convergence analysis for the proposed framework is also given.

A mobile ad hoc network(MANET)involves a group of wireless mobile nodes which create an impermanent network with no central authority and *** nodes in the MANET are highly mobile and it results in adequate network topology,link loss,and increase the re-initialization of the route discovery *** planning in MANET is a multi-hop communication process due to the restricted transmission range of the *** aided routing(LAR)is one of the effective routing protocols in MANET which suffers from the issue of high energy *** few research works have focused on resolving energy consumption problem in LAR,energy efficiency still remains a major design *** this aspect,this study introduces an energy aware metaheuristic optimization with LAR(EAMO-LAR)protocol for *** EAMO-LAR protocol makes use of manta ray foraging optimization algorithm(MRFO)to help the searching process for the individual solution to be passed to the LAR *** fitness value of the created solutions is determined next to pass the solutions to the objective *** MRFO algorithm is incorporated into the LAR protocol in the EAMO-LAR protocol to reduce the desired energy *** ensure the improved routing efficiency of the proposed EAMO-LAR protocol,a series of simulations take *** resultant experimental values pointed out the supreme outcome of the EAMO-LAR protocol over the recently compared *** resultant values demonstrated that the EAMO-LAR protocol has accomplished effectual results over the other existing techniques.

This paper deals with the automatic detection of Myotonia from a task based on the sudden opening of the hand. Data have been gathered from 44 subjects, divided into 17 controls and 27 myotonic patients, by measuring a 2-point articulation of each finger thanks to a calibrated sensory glove equipped with a Resistive Flex Sensor (RFS). RFS gloves are proven to be reliable in the analysis of motion for myotonic patients, which is a relevant task for the monitoring of the disease and subsequent treatment. With the focus on a healthy VS pathological comparison, customized features were extracted, and several classifications entailing motion data from single fingers, single articulations and aggregations were prepared. The pipeline employed a Correlation-based feature selector followed by a SVM classifier. Results prove that it's possible to detect Myotonia, with aggregated data from four fingers and upper/lower articulations providing the most promising accuracies (91.1%). © 2023 IEEE.

"Artificial lung" is a device that simulates breathing process of occupants in a room. This allows you to safely test, e.g., the impact of HVAC systems on the spread of pathogens. The paper describes the concept of the device, its construction and performed tests. The project was implemented by students of two faculties: Automatic control, electronics and computer Science, and Energy and Environmental engineering. Marine debris is a problem both for the health of marine environments and for the human health since tiny pieces of plastic called 'microplastics' resulting from the debris decomposition over the time are entering the food chain at any levels. For marine debris detection and removal, autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) are a potential solution. In this letter, we focus on the efficiency of AUV vision for real-time marine debris detection. First, we improved the efficiency of a class of state-of-the-art object detectors, namely EfficientDets [1], by 1.5% AP on D0, 2.6% AP on D1, 1.2% AP on D2 and 1.3% AP on D3 without increasing the GPU latency (see Fig. 1). Subsequently, we created and made publicly available a dataset for the detection of in-water plastic bags and bottles and trained our improved EfficientDets on this and on two public datasets for marine debris detection. Finally, we began the testing of real-time detection performance on a simulator of marine environments. © 2016 IEEE.
