Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is a disease of the eye for diabetics, and it can lead to a lack of vision if leaved untreated. The proposed approach in this paper is used to help for detecting and classifying the DR. It is applied to detect non-proliferative DR by identifying micro-aneurysms and hemorrhages. Firstly, the pre-processing step is applied. It consists of extracting the green channel, removing the optic disc (OD) and normalizing the background. Then, h-maxima transformation is performed. After that, threshold segmentation is applied to detect the hemorrhages and micro-aneurysms, accurately. Finally, an area classifier is used for the classification process to discriminate dark spot lesions. © 2021 IEEE.

This paper proposes a new disturbance observer (DO)-based reinforcement learning (RL) control approach for nonlinear systems with unmatched (generalized) disturbances. While a nonlinear disturbance observer (NDO) is utilized to measure the plant uncertainties, disturbances can exist in the plant via distinct channels from those of the control signals; so-called mismatched disturbances are theoretically difficult to attenuate within the channel of the system's states. A generalized disturbance observer-based compensator is implemented to address the uncertainty cancellation problem by removing the influence of uncertainties from the output channels. Con-currently, a composite actor-critic RL scheme is utilized for approximating the optimal control policy as well as the ideal value function pertaining to the compensated system by solving a Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation for both online and offline iterations simultaneously. Stability analysis verifies the convergence of the proposed framework. Simulation results are included to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Susceptibility acts as a critical metric for assessing an electrical apparatus’s performance and reliability amidst the external electromagnetic environment, especially the intentional electromagnetic interference (IEMI). Given that the IEMI often invades electrical systems in common-mode (CM) and converts to the differential-mode (DM) signal to disrupt the normal operation of devices, investigating the mode transformation in the system under attack is pivotal for its susceptibility analysis. This paper first investigates the CM to DM conversion in the motor control system of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) illuminated by an external IEMI. Experimental studies explore the influence of the distance between UAV and copper ground on mode conversion, revealing that adjusting the UAV’s landing gear height have the potential to enhance its susceptibility.

This paper proposes a sensorless method using the zero-sequence back electromotive force (ZSB-EMF) for five-phase open-end winding permanent magnet synchronous machine (OEW-PMSM) with common dc bus. The output of the zero-sequence controller, which is applied to suppress the zero-sequence current (ZSC), is used to reconstruct the ZSB-EMF. Then the position of the rotor is extracted from the output signal of the zero-sequence controller by single phase locked loop. A compensation of the deadtime is proposed to eliminate the negative effect for the position estimation and increase the effective modulation index. The proposed method needs no parameters of the motor, like the resistance, d-q inductance, which are vulnerable and might affect the accuracy of the estimation for the conventional sensorless methods based on the ZSB-EMF. It is easy to implement and the resistance network and complex calculation of conventional methods are also avoided. Experimental results on the five-phase open-end winding PMSM drive system are shown to validate the proposed sensorless method. © 1986-2012 IEEE.

Studying intentional electromagnetic interference (IEMI) is crucial for safeguarding hardware safety, as it helps to address the deliberate disruption of electronic devices. The field-to-cable coupling serves as a prevalent attack mechanism of IEMI, precipitating unexpected failures of the device under test. Many efforts focus on the analysis of field-to-cable coupling under high-power electromagnetic pulse, but less target on the phenomenon illuminated with continuous waves. This paper proposes a novel method to predict the worst-case for field-tocable coupling under continuous IEMI attack. By employing the transmission line theory to characterize the cables and obtaining the impedance information of the devices at both ends of the cable, an analytical model is built for determining the terminal voltage frequency responses induced by IEMI. Subsequently, the sensitive frequency region of this cable-connected electrical system can be determined, facilitating purposive immunity improvements. Using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) as an example, the analytical calculations are compared with the radiated susceptibility test. The results exhibit a good agreement with experiments and validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

We consider the control design of stochastic discrete-time linear multi-agent systems (MASs) under a global signal temporal logic (STL) specification to be satisfied at a predefined probability. By decomposing the dynamics into deterministic and error components, we construct a probabilistic reachable tube (PRT) as the Cartesian product of reachable sets of the individual error systems driven by disturbances lying in confidence regions (CRs) with a fixed probability. By bounding the PRT probability with the specification probability, we tighten all state constraints induced by the STL specification by solving tractable optimization problems over segments of the PRT, and relax the underlying stochastic problem with a deterministic one. This approach reduces conservatism compared to tightening guided by the STL structure. Additionally, we propose a recursively feasible algorithm to attack the resulting problem by decomposing it into agent-level subproblems, which are solved iteratively according to a scheduling policy. We demonstrate our method on a ten-agent system, where existing approaches are impractical.

The paper presents a programmable (using a 1-bit signal) digital gate that can operate in one of two OR or AND modes. A circuit of this type can also be implemented using conventional logic gates. However, in the case of the proposed circuit, compared to conventional solutions, the advantage is a much smaller number of transistors necessary for its implementation. Circuit is also much faster than its conventional counterpart. The logic gate was implemented in the 180nm CMOS technology and verified using Hspice simulations. There are many possible applications for this gate, mostly in artificial intelligence and pattern recognition algorithms implemented at the transistor level. © 2023 IEEE.

Digital pathology allows for the efficient storage and advanced computational analysis of stained histopathological slides of various tissues. Tissue segmentation is a crucial first step of digital pathology aimed at eliminating background, pen markings, and other artifacts, reducing image size, and increasing the efficiency of further analysis. In most cases, color thresholding or deep learning models are used, but their effectiveness is reduced due to complex artifacts and huge color variations between slides. We propose a post processing method to increase the tissue segmentation performance of any initial segmentation algorithm. Using a set of 197 manually annotated histopathological images of breast cancer patients and 63 images of endometrial cancer patients, we tested our method with 3 thresholding techniques and 3 deep learning-based algorithms by calculating the Dice index, Jaccard index, precision, and recall. In both datasets, applying post processing increased precision and recall for thresholding methods and mostly precision for deep learning models. Overall, applying post-processing gave better tissue segmentation performance than initial segmentation methods, significantly increasing Dice and Jaccard indices. Our results proved that thanks to post-processing, the tissue segmentation pipeline is more robust to noises and artifacts commonly present in histopathological images. © 2025 by SCITEPRESS– Science and Technology Publications, Lda.

Real-time object detection on resource-constrained edge devices faces a fundamental challenge: balancing high detection accuracy with low computational complexity. Existing models often fail to achieve this balance, limiting their deployment in practical edge computing applications. This paper introduces EdgeSight, an efficient and optimized object detection architecture specifically designed for edge computing environments. EdgeSight integrates several key innovations, including the RepViTBlock in the C2f module to enhance feature extraction while maintaining a compact model size, and the Task-dynamic-aligned Detection Head (TDADH), which uses Deformable ConvNet V2 (DCNv2) to adaptively adjust receptive fields, optimizing both classification and localization tasks. Additionally, EdgeSight employs layer-adaptive magnitude-based pruning (LAMP) for model compression, reducing computational complexity without sacrificing accuracy, and incorporates advanced knowledge distillation techniques, such as Channel-wise Knowledge Distillation (CWD) and Bridging Cross-task Knowledge Distillation (BCKD), to minimize accuracy loss during compression. Experiments across multiple benchmark datasets demonstrate that EdgeSight significantly improves detection accuracy while maintaining low computational complexity and a compact model size, confirming its effectiveness and robustness across diverse real-time edge computing applications, including public safety, autonomous driving, and urban monitoring. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

In this contribution, we discuss the construction, modeling, and control of a three-beam prototype that utilizes interactive fiber rubber composites integrated with shape memory alloys (SMAs) as actuators. These actuators are integrated into a textile layer and covered with an elastomer layer, providing flexibility and protection to the prototype. A mathematical model was developed to describe the behavior of the prototype, employing system identification techniques. However, precise position control of systems actuated by SMAs is challenging due to their inherent nonlinearities and hysteretic behavior. To tackle this challenge, a proportional-integral (PI) controller was designed based on robust stability conditions. The effectiveness of the designed PI controller was validated through both numerical simulations and real experiments. © 2023 The Authors.
