The deployment of multiple intelligent reflecting surfaces(IRSs)in blockage-prone millimeter wave(mmWave)communication networks have garnered considerable attention *** the remarkably low circuit power consumption per IRS element,the aggregate energy consumption becomes substantial if all elements of an IRS are turned on given a considerable number of IRSs,resulting in lower overall energy efficiency(EE).To tackle this challenge,we propose a flexible and efficient approach that individually controls the status of each IRS ***,the network EE is maximized by jointly optimizing the associations of base stations(BSs)and user equipments(UEs),transmit beamforming,phase shifts of IRS elements,and the associations of individual IRS elements and *** problem is efficiently addressed in two ***,the Gale-Shapley algorithm is applied for BS-UE association,followed by a block coordinate descent-based algorithm that iteratively solves the subproblems related to active beamforming,phase shifts,and element-UE *** reduce the tremendous dimensionality of optimization variables introduced by element-UE associations in large-scale IRS networks,we introduce an efficient algorithm to solve the associations between IRS elements and *** results show that the proposed elementwise control scheme improves EE by 34.24% compared to the network with IRS-all-on scheme.

FaLa: feature-augmented location-aware transformer network for graph representation learning

Data augmentation is a technique that improves the ability of neural networks to make accurate predictions by increasing the size of the training dataset. However, it is still uncertain how to properly use data augmentation on graph data in order to boost the performance of graph neural networks (GNNs). While the majority of current graph regularizers primarily concentrate on modifying the topological structures of graphs by adding or deleting nodes and edges, we propose a technique to augment node and edge features in order to improve efficiency. More precisely, we use cosine similarity to perform cross-functions on the existing features. This allows us to generate new graph features, such as node and edge attributes, as well as new graph structures. We then merge these new features together to provide specific pairs of inputs for graph transformer networks. We next propose feature-augmented location-aware transformer (FaLa) networks that generalize well across several graph learning problems by combining the positional and structural encoding of nodes. Additionally, in order to avoid collecting duplicate data from other features, we apply a disparity restriction during training on these latent node embeddings. Experimental findings across eleven real-world datasets demonstrate that our methodology enhances node classification accuracy by a significant margin of 2.8% to 22.7%, link prediction by 1.6% to 8.5%, and graph classification by 7.0% to 39.8% compared to the state-of-the-art graph convolutional network (GCN) and graph transformer (GT) models. The increasing reliance on online reservation systems across various industries, including hospitality, airlines, and e-commerce, has heightened concerns over last-minute cancellations, may lead to monetary losses and ineffective operations. This study examines the application of machine learning techniques, particularly the Random Forest classifier (a bagging ensemble method), to predict reservation cancellations. In order to enable businesses to put proactive measures in place to reduce these risks, the research attempts to identify important variables that affect cancellations, such as customer demographics, booking lead times, and cancellation policies. The model was trained using 80% of the datasets, with the remaining 20% being utilized for testing. The model was assessed using key performance metrics such F1-Score, precision, recall, and accuracy. The model obtained a 0.37 F1-Score, recall of 0.38, precision of 0.37, and accuracy of 42%, indicating reasonable performance. The model's ROC-AUC score of 0.42 indicates that it has to be improved in order to better differentiate between canceled and non-canceled reservations. Overall, the findings show that Random Forest and other machine learning techniques, can be useful for predicting reservation cancellations, though further improvements are needed. Future research could concentrate on improving the model through hyper parameter tuning, feature engineering, and exploring more advanced methods to enhance predictive performance across different industries. © 2024 IEEE.

In the present world, skin cancer is the most widely recognized reason for death among people. Skin malignancy is an unusual development of skin cells. Frequently created on the body part exposed to the sunlight;however, it can happen on any place on the body. The majority of the skin malignancy is treatable at the beginning phase. So an early and quick identification of skin disease can spare the patient's life. With the new innovation, early identification of skin malignancy is conceivable at the introductory stage utilizing picture handling. The skin cancer detection using image processing is based on the detection of skin cancer types at its earliest stage. There are many types of skin cancers found. It is difficult to identify the type of skin cancer at the earlier stage, manual identification can often be time consuming and inaccurate. Doctors are able to identify the symptoms of skin cancer but are unable to identify the type of skin cancer in the initial stage. So the doctors will wait until it gets blotted but by that time the disease will become out of control. So a software is developed to help the Skin Cancer Detection at its earliest stage by passing valid input images. So this chapter explains about a method to identify and classify the skin cancer using images using Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) algorithm. Flood mapping is a crucial task in mitigating the adverse impacts of flooding by providing accurate spatial information about inundated areas. This study explores flood mapping using the ETCI dataset, leveraging the U-Net model and its enhanced variants. Initially, a basic U-Net architecture is employed to generate flood maps, followed by progressively improved versions incorporating batch normalization, dropout, and attention mechanisms. These modifications aim to enhance model generalization, robustness, and feature extraction capabilities. For the purpose of evaluating the model's performance, metrics like accuracy, F1-score, and Intersection over Union (IoU) are utilised. The generated flood maps demonstrate the potential of advanced U-Net architectures for precise and efficient flood delineation, providing a valuable tool for disaster management and planning. © 2024 IEEE.

Smart home technology has made daily life easier, automated, and managed. IoT devices like smart speakers, cameras, thermostats, and security systems are increasingly integrated, raising security and privacy concerns. This study examines smart home devices' energy consumption, use trends, device failures, and system efficiency. This research uses smart home devices to identify consumption trends and risks. To better understand smart home ecosystems, the study will evaluate energy consumption, device usage hours, and malfunctions that can affect functionality and security. Using predictive analytics and machine learning, the researchers predict excessive energy usage and device problems. These methods identify trends and irregularities in smart home device operation to improve performance, efficiency, and security. This study investigates how user decisions, usage hours, and device age affect energy consumption, as well as how to identify optimization opportunities. The data analysis study contains statistical summaries and visualisations of device type, usage hours, energy consumption, user preferences, malfunction incidents, and device age. Machine learning algorithms such as linear regression and anomaly detection predict energy usage and locate anomalies. The data illustrate energy and device efficiency trends and recommend improvements to smart home security and effectiveness. This study addresses smart home device vulnerabilities and inefficiencies to improve smart home system optimization. The results offer smart home technology manufacturers and customers ways to improve energy efficiency, device performance, and system security. © 2024 IEEE.

Malicious programs are becoming a severe problem in today's internet-connected world. Several works have explored image analysis-based malware detection in recent years. The image analysis method converts the malicious code into gray-scale images, which enables the use of deep learning models in the domain of malware detection. This paper proposes a new architecture using a fine-tuned Visual Geometry Group(VGG16) model with a support vector machine (SVM) classifier to achieve high-performance accuracy in detecting and classifying evolving malware. At first, the malicious code is represented in gray-scale images, which are further reshaped and resized to be fed into a fine-tuned VGG16 model as end-to-end feature extraction with the least dependence on human-crafted feature engineering. The extracted textural feature maps are further correlated to remove the highly correlated features before using them to train a support vector machine (SVM) classifier. The experiments are performed on public bench-marked MalImg datasets and actual malware samples. The VGG 16+ SVM model obtained 99.25% classification accuracy for the MalImg and 80.29% for real-world malware, which signifies that the model can detect real-world instances of malware. The proposed method outperforms similar existing works and is suitable for deployment in an IoT environment due to the least cost involved in feature engineering. © 2024 IEEE.

Many researchers have preferred non-invasive techniques for recognizing the exact type of physiological abnormality in the vocal tract by training machine learning algorithms with feature descriptors extracted from the voice signal. However, until now, most techniques have been limited to classifying whether a voice is normal or abnormal. It is crucial that the trained Artificial Intelligence (AI) be able to identify the exact pathology associated with voice for implementation in a realistic environment. Another issue is the need to suppress the ambient noise that could be mixed up with the spectra of the voice. Current work proposes a robust, less time-consuming and non-invasive technique for the identification of pathology associated with a laryngeal voice signal. More specifically, a two-stage signal filtering approach that encompasses a score-based geometric approach and a glottal inverse filtering method is applied to the input voice signal. The aim here is to estimate the noise spectra, to regenerate a clean signal and finally to deliver a completely fundamental glottal flow-derived signal. For the next stage, clean glottal derivative signals are used in the formation of a novel fused-scalogram which is currently referred to as the "Combinatorial Transformative Scalogram (CTS)." The CTS is a time-frequency domain plot which is a combination of two time-frequency scalograms. There is a thorough investigation of the performance of the two individual scalograms as well as that of the CTS *** classification metrics are used to investigate performance, which are: sensitivity, mean accuracy, error, precision, false positive rate, specificity, Cohen’s kappa, Matthews Correlation Coefficient, and F1 score. Implementation of the VOice ICar fEDerico II (VOICED) standard database provided the highest mean accuracy of 94.12% with a sensitivity of 93.85% and a specificity of 97.96% against other existing techniques. With the exponential growth of the Internet of Things through time there has been an enormous increase in the usage of tiny devices and information being exchanged, between low resource devices like sensors, PDA’s and the high-end devices like servers or clouds. This opens up several challenges in securing the information being exchanged. Consequently, there is a greater demand for designing encryption algorithms, particularly for devices with limited resources. This paper introduces the HIBRI cipher, a combination of the HIGHT and the BRIGHT cipher implemented in software as well as hardware. The proposed cipher is evaluated for randomness test, strict avalanche criteria, key sensitivity tests to assess the cipher’s security while memory utilization, energy consumption, execution time and throughput are analyzed by implementing in Arduino Nano based on the Atmega328 microcontroller. The NIST tests for key generation yielded P ≥ 0.01 which proves that the proposed key generation scheme generated truly random numbers while the hardware implementation shows that the comparison results for code size, RAM and execution size yielded better results than the implementations that are cutting-edge. © The Institution of Engineers (India) 2024.
