In this paper, we present a modular approach to the high frequency simulation of large networks by utilizing the latency insertion method (LIM) and considering the stability criteria of partitions of different latencies in the circuit. This results in a robust algorithm that is able to preserve the stability condition while improving the runtime of the overall transient simulation. An extension to the LIM to handle dependent sources is also presented, along with a generalized stability criteria for selecting a maximum stable time step.

As white space, unused local TV spectrum, will be allowed for the broadband Internet access, we can use white space network as the supplementary network of licensed and/or unlicensed access networks such as cellular and WiFi™ networks. Thus, after setting up the connection over a cellular or WiFi™ system, mobile devices equipped with a white space interface will connect to a radio resource management server to retrieve a location-based list of open white space channels, “a so-called spectrum map”. This paper aims to reduce a signaling overhead for the setup of a cellular or WiFi™ connection and the retrieval of the spectrum map. To achieve the goal, we suggest embedding the retrieval operations of the spectrum map inside the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) operations for the IP assignment during the connection setup of the cellular or WiFi™ networks. The theoretical analysis demonstrates that our proposal, the fast provision of the spectrum map, can contribute to accommodating one or more white space devices when the total number of open white space channels is 30.

BiFeO3 (BFO) thin films have been deposited on SrRuO3/SrTiO3 (001) substrate by using ion beam sputtering process. At low oxygen partial pressure of 11 m Pa, rhombohedral and largec/a mixed phase thin film have been obtained in spite of rhombohedral BFO single phase formation at high oxygen partial pressure of 73 mPa. From wide area 2θ-Ψ mappings, diffraction peaks from large c/a phase BFO thin film were obtained with the same extinction rule as those of rhombohedral BFO. Reciprocal space mappings around BFO (003) and BFO (103) spots indicate that lattice parameters of largec/a phase BFO werea = 0.381 nm andc = 0.461 nm (c/a =1.22), respectively. Moreover ferroelectric domain switching could be observed in both of rhombohedral BFO and mixed phase BFO thin films.

In this paper, we consider identifying Auto Regressive with eXternal input (ARX) models for both Linear Time-Invariant (LTI) and Linear Time-Variant (LTV) systems. We aim at doing the identification from the smallest possible number of observations. This is inspired by the field of Compressive Sensing (CS), and for this reason, we call this problem Compressive System Identification (CSI). In the case of LTI ARX systems, a system with a large number of inputs and unknown input delays on each channel can require a model structure with a large number of parameters, unless input delay estimation is performed. Since the complexity of input delay estimation increases exponentially in the number of inputs, this can be difficult for high dimensional systems. We show that in cases where the LTI system has possibly many inputs with different unknown delays, simultaneous ARX identification and input delay estimation is possible from few observations, even though this leaves an apparently ill-conditioned identification problem. We discuss identification guarantees and support our proposed method with simulations. We also consider identifying LTV ARX models. In particular, we consider systems with parameters that change only at a few time instants in a piecewise-constant manner where neither the change moments nor the number of changes is known a priori. The main technical novelty of our approach is in casting the identification problem as recovery of a block-sparse signal from an underdetermined set of linear equations. We suggest a random sampling approach for LTV identification, address the issue of identifiability and again support our approach with illustrative simulations.

This paper elaborates on the performance of orthogonal space-time block codes (STBCs) for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems operating in generalized-K fading conditions. The considered fading model is generic since it intimately encompasses both small-scale fading (modeled via the Nakagami-m distribution) and large-scale fading (modeled via the gamma distribution). In the following, new exact analytical expressions are derived for the Shannon capacity along with asymptotic expressions in the high and low Signal-to-Noise ratio (SNR) regimes. We also present exact tractable expressions followed by first-order expansions for the marginal outage probability and symbol error rate (SER); further, we quantify the performance of STBCs in terms of diversity order and coding gain. The derived analytical expressions are validated via a set of Monte-Carlo simulations which also demonstrate the implications of the model parameters on the overall performance.

We present a method for coding speech signals for the simulation of a cochlear implant. The method is based on a wavelet packet decomposition strategy. We used wavelet packet db4 for 7 levels, generated a series of channels with bandwidths exactly the same as nucleus device, and applied an input stimulus to each channel. The processed signal was then reconstructed and compared to the original signal, which preserved the contents to a high percentage. Finally, performance of the wavelet packet decomposition in terms of computational complexity was compared to other commonly used strategies in cochlear implants. The results showed the power of this method in processing of the input signal for implant users with less complexity than other methods, while maintaining the contents of the input signal to a very good extent.

Abstract A problem of assessing stability of retarded dynamical networks is solved in this paper. Subsystems are assumed to be integral input-to-state stable (iISS). Time-delays are allowed to reside in both subsystems and interconnection channels, and may be both discrete and distributed. No assumption is made on the interconnection topology. This paper develops a small-gain methodology for constructing a Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional of such a network.
