Voltage instability and excessive power losses are common challenges in distribution networks. This research investigates optimal integration of solar photovoltaic distributed generation units so as to improve voltage profiles and reduce power losses contributing greatly to sustainable energy goals. A hybrid optimization approach combining Particle Swarm Optimization and Grey Wolf Optimization algorithms is proposed for determining optimal sizing and placement of PV-based DGs. Study focuses on Kombolcha town Feeder-3 distribution network consisting of 131 buses where mathematical model and load flow analysis were conducted using Backward-Forward Sweep (BFS) method. Three scenarios were analyzed: Base Case, Type-1 DG integration and Type-3 DG integration. BFS analysis identified total active and reactive power losses of 506.93 kW and 303.55 kVAr with 90.84% of buses operating below minimum voltage standard. Integrating up to four Type-3 DG units reduced active power losses by 87.18%-93.01% and reactive power losses by 87.18%-93.01% substantially enhancing voltage stability. Economic analysis revealed payback period of approximately six years underscoring feasibility of proposed solution. Hybrid PSO-GWO optimization effectively enhances performance of distribution networks offering practical approach to integrating solar PV systems.

A new technique for diagnosis of microcomputer systems is presented, based on a modified triple voting algorithm to distributively test the system without a central controller. The algorithm is shown to yield a remarkable reduction in diagnosis and reconfiguration time compared with other techniques. The application of this technique to large microcomputer architectures is described and simulation results are presented.

An algorithm to recover three-dimensional shape, i.e., surface orientation and relative depth from a single segmented image is presented. It is assumed that the scene is composed of opaque regular solid objects bounded by piecewise smooth surfaces with no markings or textures. It is also assumed that the reflectance map R(n) is known. For the canonical case of Lambertian surfaces illuminated by a point light source, this implies knowing the light-source direction. A variational formulation of line drawing and shading constraints in a common framework is developed. The global constraints are partitioned into constraint sets corresponding to the faces, edges and vertices in the scene. For a face, the constraints are given by Horn's image irradiance equation. A variational formulation of the constraints at an edge both from the known direction of the image curve corresponding to the edge and shading is developed. At a vertex, the constraints are modeled by a system of nonlinear equations. An algorithm is presented to solve this system of constraints.

A corona based weakly ionized plasma source was developed to deposit plasma polymerized acetylene coating at atmospheric pressure. The plasma source included a distinctive point-topoint geometry consisting of an array of high voltage needles and an array of protrusions placed over a grounded screen. The geometry facilitated various corona discharge modes that included return corona to contribute plasma polymerized acetylene deposition downstream from the corona section. Scanning probe techniques were used to investigate deposition on both the leading surface and the trailing surface of substrates. Deposition was initiated as distinct nodules that merged to form a thin plasma polymerized coating.

Schizophrenia is a serious mental illness, the pharmacological treatment of which comprises primarily the use of antipsychotics. However, non-adherence to their use and its reliable determination present a serious clinical and economic problem. This study aimed to determine therapeutic adherence in outpatients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders by combining short-term electronic monitoring of dispenser opening with the measurement of antipsychotic blood concentrations. A total of 55 patients underwent a week-long electronic monitoring of dispenser opening and measurement of blood concentrations before and after monitoring. Patients who correctly opened the dispenser at least in 80% of scheduled time points during the weekly interval and, at the same time, did not show a change in blood concentration of the antipsychotic by more than 30% in any direction, were considered adherent. 69.1% of the patients met the adherence criteria, which was less than that determined by the Drug Attitude Inventory (DAI-10), the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), and the Clinician Rating Scale (CRS). 7.3% of the patients took less than 80% of the prescribed doses and a change in blood concentrations of the antipsychotic by more than 30% was detected in 25.4% of the patients. In 70.9% of patients, the detected concentrations were within the recommended therapeutic reference interval. The groups of adherent and non-adherent patients did not differ statistically significantly in the severity of their illness as determined by the Clinical Global Impression (CGI), the Personal and Social Performance scale (PSP), and the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS). The combined method of evaluating adherence in schizophrenia patients confirmed the results determined by other methods. The benefits of this approach are described in the paper.

An alternative computational 'model' for logic programs is proposed which is based upon control annotations written in first-order predicate calculus. These annotations are used to generate runtime environments within which it is possible to exclude infinite computations. The major advantage of such a model is that it is possible to write conceptually transparent programs which otherwise would not have terminated under an existing naive control mechanism.
