We present an integrated framework for intelligent automated plant monitoring, towards early disease and pest detection in greenhouse tomato crops. The framework combines the use of a robotic mobile platform to autonomously collect multi-spectral images of the plants, with a tool that utilizes Faster R-CNN to detect regions that signify the presence of a disease or pest. The robot is based on a modified mobile vertical mast lift platform, and integrates a 6-dof robotic arm that is used to position the plant imaging multi-spectral camera. The robot can navigate autonomously inside the greenhouse via a magnetic guidance sensor. Results from a series of experiments demonstrate the validity and effectiveness of the implemented framework. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents the development of an application for classifying cardiac arrhythmia by utilizing photoplethys-mography sensor signals. The Photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor is used as a reader for the cardiovascular system by measuring changes in blood volume in the skin tissue. The PPG sensor captures electrical signals originating from the reflected light source due to changes in blood flow during heart activity. After going through the preprocessing stage, the signals are then extracted into several features that will be classified using the Random Forest algorithm. The results from the Random Forest algorithm will provide a diagnosis based on the detection of arrhythmia. Based on the experimental results, the accuracy achieved using the method and dataset is 72%. The accuracy of the system testing using the smartwatch under normal heart conditions is 88.88%. © 2023 IEEE.

Internetworks with a large number of routing devices that utilise the Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) routing protocol, benefit greatly if they are designed in a hierarchical manner. The multi-area feature of OSPF leads to reduced network overhead, low processing and memory requirements and smaller routing tables. This, however, comes at the cost of increased configuration complexity, especially at the Area Border Routers. The threshold after which splitting the OSPF domain into multiple areas, is an ongoing debate among network administrators. A well known rule-of-thumb is recommended by large vendors of networking devices setting that threshold to 50 routing devices. The objective of this preliminary work is to investigate that threshold by conducting a simulation-based study using the OPNET network simulation tool. To assess the network performance, we select the network convergence duration as the quantitative Key Performance Indicator (KPI) of our study. Results indicate that the above mentioned threshold does not appear to be appropriate and a revision of that empirical rule should be considered. © 2023 IEEE.

Physical Full Duplex (FD) operation in WLANs is a promising technology aiming at substituting the traditional Half Duplex (HD) functionality. An increased performance is expected which, theoretically, can be expressed as a double increase in system throughput. However, due to the initial design of the basic access method in WLANs, known as Distributed Coordination Function (DCF), this performance boost is poorly exhibited. Game theory is an invaluable tool to model the performance of Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols used in WLANs. In this paper, we exploit game theory to propose a simple enhancement to the DCF access method, in order to increase the benefit received when the FD capability is enabled in ad-hoc WLANs. © 2023 IEEE.

Pilot vehicle interfaces on aircraft, similar to the automobile digital displays found in automobiles, are used to present the current status of various systems (e.g., navigation, engine information). Aircraft interfaces exhibit deterministic behavior due to safety concerns, ensuring that user input yields predictable outputs. Consequently, integrating text-based pattern recognition or artificial neural network based solutions to aircraft systems are challenging because of their deterministic nature. In this paper, an approach complementary to the existing user interface models is proposed. This approach is based on learning recurring user interactions during flight. It utilizes text-based pattern recognition and prediction models based on user interaction logs and sensor readings. Test results on sample data suggest that the proposed approach yields faster and context-aware user interaction model that decreases the time needed to perform tasks in the aircraft cockpit, where timing is crucial. © 2023 IEEE.

This research paper presents a comprehensive investigation into the optimization of resource allocation in 5G networks through the technique of Downlink and Uplink Decoupling (DUDe). With the growing need for accurate modeling and scenario planning in 5G systems, DUDe allows for the configuration of an additional, lower frequency signal on the uplink to complement the existing uplink signal, rebalancing the uplink/downlink difference at the cell edge and enhancing coverage and network capacity. Drawing on extensive literature and industry trends, this study explores the benefits and challenges of DUDe, considering its impact on network performance, user experience, and future developments. The paper also introduces a simulation-based methodology and experiments to evaluate the effectiveness of DUDe in improving coverage, capacity, latency, and energy efficiency. The security guard profession is no longer a profession that only relies on the physical but also other aspects, such as attitude, leadership, language, and others. There are several problems faced by companies providing security guards, namely the demand for security personnel is quite high, the number of applicants is also large, but the selection process has to go through an administrative and interview process. With a limited number of interviewers, it takes a longer time to get the selection results. Interview results also tend to be more subjective, making it difficult to determine which candidates are under the company's criteria and specifications. This study aims to develop a decision support system for selecting the acceptance of new outsourced security guards using the MOORA method for a security guard service provider company, namely PT. Purba Alter Service. There are 19 criteria used in the selection of security guards. This research developed the system on a web-based using the MOORA method for calculating the selection of alternative security guards. By comparing the results of the selection system processing using the MOORA method with the results of the previous three years without a system, of the 14 alternative names tested, 12 names appeared in both results, and obtained 85.7% accuracy. The result shows that the MOORA method is successfully implemented in selecting security personnel. © 2023 IEEE.

The Renewable Energy Sources (RES) penetration in the power system of Cyprus has dramatically increased over the last years. As a result, the system is already facing significant challenges limiting the RES hosting capacity of the Distribution Network (DN). The major limitation factors are network congestion and voltage security. In this paper, alternative solutions for increasing the RES hosting capacity in DNs are reviewed, and a methodology is introduced to evaluate their effectiveness. More specifically, different inverter settings and an advanced centralised voltage control from power transformers are used to mitigate voltage-related issues, while network reinforcements and upgrading the operating voltage are considered for further increase in hosting capacity. The solutions and evaluation methodology are tested using a real MV network of the Cyprus distribution system and the strategic plan of the Cyprus Distribution System Operator (DSO) for maximizing RES hosting capacity is outlined. © The Institution of engineering & Technology 2024.

The BART model is an advanced adaptation of transformers introduced by Facebook. It has incorporated elements from both BERT and GPT transformers, enabling significant advancements in language understanding and general speech processing. Utilizing both encoder and decoder components, BART proves versatile for various tasks, including translation, text completion, automatic sentence generation, entity recognition, sentiment analysis, and more. In this study, we focus on the study of pretrained models, BART and a modified version called distilbart, in the context of Zero-Shot Text Classification. In the experimental study we dive into the Zero-Shot technique applied to various pretrained Transformers. Our analysis demonstrates that, depending on the Model we utilize, we can achieve F1 scores of up to 88%, showcasing the model's effectiveness in discerning classes for this Sentiment Analysis problem using the Zero-Shot Text Classification technique. © 2023 IEEE.
