People frequently find it straightforward to identify insects that feed on cabbage plants based on the insects’ characteristics. However, challenges arise when employing a computer for precise bug categorization and identification. The implementation of Deep Learning (DL) utilizes the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) technique, renowned for its effectiveness in categorizing and recognizing objects in digital photo data. The CNN algorithm delivers notable results in photo identification, simulating the human visual brain’s image recognition through artificial neural networks in the Python programming language. To enrich the user experience, frameworks like Keras and TensorFlow are employed in neural network development. Our research will use the CNN algorithm to determine insect species in cabbage images. Achieving high accuracy involves coupling the CNN algorithm with the VGGNet architectural model. Notably, utilizing an epoch value of 150 resulted in a 97.75% accuracy rate during the training model technique; however, the validation accuracy was slightly lower at 94.25%. The corresponding loss and validation rates were 0.0613% and 0.2945%, respectively. Moreover, based on the model (150 epochs), the testing outcomes in the study, involving 48 images beyond the dataset and incorporating additional information, resulted in an accuracy rate of 91.66%.

This paper focuses on addressing the challenge of estimating multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels for wireless communication between a ground base-station and a moving vehicle. One recently recognised model for time-varying channels incorporates spatial selectivity, which is referred to as beam squint, and is particularly relevant in the millimeter-wave (mmWave) range. In such scenarios, it is essential to account for the beam squint when attempting to recover channel parameters using a training sequence. However, the use of a training sequence alone may be insufficient for this purpose. To overcome this issue, in this work, we propose a channel estimation approach that exploits information provided by the control module of the vehicle, namely its velocity. The estimation problem that is designed, regards the channel both in a parametric and a non-parametric form and the alternating direction method of multipliers is utilised to efficiently solve it. It is demonstrated via simulations that considerable gains can be achieved if information from the control unit of the vehicle can be appropriately introduced and exploited.

Assessing the behavior and welfare of chickens is crucial for successful chicken rearing and product quality. Recent research has focused on using advanced cameras and computer vision technologies to analyze chicken behavior. This camera-based approach captures high-resolution video footage, which is then processed using computer vision algorithms to extract insights on movement patterns, feeding behavior, and social interactions. While this approach has advanced our understanding, there is a need for studies employing a frame-by-frame analysis to obtain fine-grained details of chicken behavior. This method allows for precise measurements and real-time analysis, facilitating informed decision-making in chicken farming. To expedite the assessment process, a bandpass filter 470 nm lens is incorporated into the camera setup, optimizing image segmentation and reducing processing time. The proposed system combines this specialized camera with frame-by-frame calculations to track and measure the velocity, acceleration, and position of chickens within a flock. The integration of these technologies holds the potential for improving our understanding of chicken behavior, enhancing welfare, and driving data-driven decision-making in chicken farming practices.

The WHO predicts that by 2030 road accidents will be the 5th leading cause of death. Globally, road accidents account for 1.25 million casualties each year, and road defects cause 34% of these casualties. The road survey process in many countries have several challenges, one of which is detection using cameras that do not have a recognition system. In this study, a model with YOLOS architecture based on Vision Transformer trained on the RDD2022 dataset successfully recognizes road damage well, as indicated by the number of objects detected, bounding box on accurate objects, and the ability to recognize objects with inconsistent shadow and light inference. This research uses assessment parameters such as Average Precision (AP) and Average Recall (AR) to determine the overall performance of the model. The model achieves the highest AP value at Intersection of Union (IoU) 0.5, 0.75, and 0.5-0.95, worth 62.1%, 37.1%, and 36.2% respectively, and the highest AR value in Large, Medium, and Small Areas, worth 42.1%, 60.3%, and 75.4% respectively. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) regulations require construction workers to wear safety helmets to ensure site safety. However, monitoring PPE compliance consistently in fast-paced, dynamic construction environments poses a significant challenge. In response, we developed a sophisticated object detection system that automates the real-time verification of helmet use, thereby improving safety standards and reducing the likelihood of accidents. Extensive research was conducted to analyze all feasible algorithms that can be implemented in the safety helmet detection system and compare the proposed model with an existing one to ensure the proposed system can give high accuracy and high inference speed. Therefore, YOLOv5 was identified as the ideal choice in terms of accuracy and speed, and it was then enhanced with optimized transfer learning. We began our methodology by pre-training a comprehensive Kaggle dataset before refining the model using Roboflow on a specialized dataset. Using PyTorch and YOLOv5, we conducted exhaustive model training, testing, and evaluation. Our system achieved a lightning-fast inference speed of 39.8 milliseconds and a remarkable 91.4 percent accuracy in identifying helmet compliance. The implementation of such object detection technologies has the potential to significantly increase safety helmet compliance, thereby creating a safer environment for construction workers. © 2023 IEEE.

The COVID-19 pandemic among other radical changes it imposed onto our typical way of living, working, and interacting, established online education in both synchronous and asynchronous forms. This in many cases has given alternative forms of education like digital games, more practical potential. Teachers during this period have proposed digital games as a part of the teaching and learning procedure more often. The digital games that managed to prove their value in more effective learning will probably gain a place in the classroom and teachers' role is significant towards this change. This study presents the results of an online survey with the participation of 184 primary school teachers in Greece. The purpose of the survey is to investigate teachers' attitudes towards digital games in general and the Multiplication Game (MG) in particular and the findings are positive as teachers' opinion for both MG and digital games is high. © 2021 IEEE.

A brain computer interface (BCI) system uses a technique known calibration, that takes 20 to 30 minutes to accomplish. For the objective of creating a reliable decoder, the calibration process is challenging and expensive. In order to address the drawbacks of the current system, a spectral-spatial technique has been suggested. The motor imagery (MI) data set, comprising 15 electroencephalography (EEG) signals and fourteen test subjects, is taken into consideration. The two modules are designed to extract characteristics and process data. An artificial neural network (ANN) is used to independently train and test the suggested spectral-spatial algorithm. Based on it, a variety of machine learning techniques, including random forest (RF), neural networks (NN), and XGboost, are used to classify the data, that is then sent to the hidden layer (Lth layer). The obtained results indicates 2% of improvement in comparison with existing methodology. © 2024 IEEE.

The covid-19 global pandemic brought about a drastic change to how the world approaches education. The world bank noted that at the peak of the pandemic, 45 countries in Europe and Asia closed schools. A separate source also noted that over 250 million primary and secondary school children were out of school due to the lockdown of schools worldwide. Albeit temporarily, the severity of the pandemic transitioned the method of teaching for most schools from physical to virtual. This paper aims to address one of the limitations that arose due to this transition: online examination security. Examination malpractice was noticed to spike for examinations taken online, even with trained proctors watching test-takers via video conference platforms such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Within this research analysis is a planned iris movement tracking system to add another layer of security to online examination systems. This system uses a three-tier style structure. Tier 1 is verification that it is indeed a registered student taking the examination. This will be achieved using facial recognition. Tier 2 involves the storage and protection of facial data of students. The last tier involves the continuous use of webcams to detect the iris movement of students and alert proctors if a student looks away from the screen for a significant amount of time. This paper mainly focuses on tier 3. © 2021 IEEE.

Until recently, Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) were the main technology for the implementation of traditional data-intensive storage and retrieval applications. Over time, these systems have become very efficient, except in the case of storing complex data structures that contain many relationships and properties as they require multiple joins of large tables, which significantly reduce their performance. In such cases, where data have a natural representation as a graph (big data, semantic web, social and computer networks, geographical applications), Graph Database Management Systems (GDBMS) are an efficient solution providing better performance and scalability compared to RDBMS. A very common function of GIS applications is to calculate the shortest path on graph datasets that represent transportation networks. The objective of this work is the comparative evaluation of MySQL and Neo4j in shortest path computation over the same graph dataset representing pedestrian routes of the historic center of Thessaloniki city. © 2021 IEEE

Efficient shortest path algorithms are central to routing and navigation applications. However, finding the shortest path is often not adequate for urban sidewalk routes, as users of these applications may also be interested in alternative routes that, although slightly longer, have other desirable features and properties (i.e., accessibility, safety, comfort, and convenience). The k-shortest paths (KSP) represent an ordered list of the available alternative routes. Even though several KSP algorithms have been proposed, to our knowledge, there is no research considering all these issues. The purpose of this paper is to introduce a heuristic algorithm that uses a penalty method by increasing certain edge weights, to effectively search for the most accessible alternative paths for multi-route cases in navigation systems. We then present experimental results on finding the most accessible paths in pedestrian sections of the historical center of Thessaloniki city. © 2021 IEEE
