The paper contains an investigation of the high frequency operation of a dual channel resonant Boost converter. The energy is transmitted through the two channels of the converter from its input to the output using a switched capacitor. Because of the two channels the load of the converter elements is distributed therefore its application is recommended in the medium or higher power ranges. An advantage of the converter is that in discontinuous current conduction mode (DCM) it can work in soft-switched mode too. A drawback of DCM operation is the higher output voltage ripple and the unfavorable utilization of the power handling capabilities of its components compared to the continuous current conduction (CCM) operation. The paper presents the conditions of operating the converter above the resonant frequency of its inherent L-C ringing circuit, and represents its beneficial effects. The considerations are verified by simulation results.

We focus on an important phase of the proportioning-burning-grinding operation triplet that essentially determines the cement quality; namely, the composition control of the raw mill system. We begin by describing the application of a generic optimal controller structure to this important phase, followed by a discussion of the control engineering background and the design of the realized controller. In this study a model-based control designed for the operation of a solar power plant is discussed. The simplified physically based model of the plant was developed on the basis of the energy balances including the solar insulation as an input, the heat transferred by the flow of the oil as a working media and the overall heat loss from the plant. The outlet temperature of the collector field is the reference/set-point value while the volumetric flow rate of the oil is the manipulating variable to the controller. The solar radiation, the ambient temperature and the inlet oil temperature to the collector field are assumed as the disturbances. The model developed and identified is an internal part of the controller. The initial control experimental results are also presented.
