The transition to electric transportation demands efficient and cost-effective powertrains. Optimizing energy use is crucial for extending range and reducing expenses. However, comparing inverter and motor efficiency based on inverter topologies is challenging due to biased methodologies that favor certain designs over others. This document introduces a novel optimization-based approach for enhancing partial load efficiency and minimizing chip area of single and dual traction inverters, indicating potential energy savings and cost reduction. Recent publications of both industry [1], [2] and academia [3] underscore the importance of these design goals achieved by either novel inverter topologies or enhanced control methods. Two promising topologies with the inherent capability of partial load optimization are evaluated regarding chip area and system efficiency to find the most suitable concept for future electric vehicle power trains. © 2024 IEEE.

Cucumber farming plays a crucial role in Bangladesh's agricultural economy, significantly contributing to vegetable production. However, diseases like Downy Mildew, Bacterial Wilt, Anthracnose, and Belly Rot threaten crop quality and lead to financial losses. Effective management of these diseases is crucial for maintaining high crop yields and ensuring economic stability. Current disease identification methods are labor-intensive, costly, and dependent on expert knowledge. To address these challenges, this study presents an automated disease categorization system using advanced transfer learning models, including MobileNet, ShuffleNet, InceptionResNet-v2, AlexNet, and Ensemble Transfer Learning (ETL). Utilizing a dataset of 8,000 well-annotated images, enhanced through preprocessing techniques like GLRM feature extraction and InfoMAX-GAN feature selection, the ETL model achieved a remarkable accuracy of 99.79% and an F1-score of 99.78%. We also developed a user-friendly web tool for real-time diagnostics, providing invaluable support to farmers and agricultural specialists. This tool enables rapid disease detection, leading to increased productivity and a transformative approach to cucumber disease management. By reducing the reliance on chemical interventions, it promotes sustainable farming practices and safeguards human and animal health. © 2024 IEEE.

A new dual-channel discontinuous mode isolated current source gate driver (ICSGD) is proposed in this paper. The proposed gate driver can provide two isolated gate drive signals for two power MOSFETs in circuits where these switches are in sync. The proposed gate driver can achieve very fast turn on and turn off transitions, due to its current mode nature. In addition, this technique can achieve partial gate energy recovery by recovering a fraction of the RMS (CV2) energy, which is typically dissipated over the gate drive resistors in voltage source gate drive (VSGD) techniques. Thus, provides better efficiency. The proposed circuit consists of six transistors and a small pulse transformer to allow swift operation over a wide range of duty cycles. Current through the transformer is discontinuous to avoid conduction losses due to circulating currents such as in some resonant gate drivers (RGD). Consequently, the proposed ICSGD provides superior performance over its VSGD counterparts, especially in high-frequency (HF) operation. The design is implemented in both PSIM and Typhoon HIL (hardware in the loop) platforms. The model is verified with a match of results from PSIM and Typhoon. The PSIM & HIL results show that the ICSGD achieves a minimum of 20% efficiency improvement.

With the rise of AI, the recognition of Sign Language (SL) through sign-to-text has gained significance in the field of computer vision and deep machine learning. However, there are only a few medium to large open datasets available for this task, as it requires a vast dataset of thousands of signs for words/phrases in different environments, which is a time-consuming and tedious process. Furthermore, there has been very little effort towards Arabic Sign Language Recognition (ArSLR). This research paper presents the results of fine-tuning the Vision Transformer (ViT) model on a small-scale in-house dataset of ArSL. The main goal is to attain satisfactory results by utilizing minimal computing power and a small dataset involving less than 10 individuals, with only one recording made for each sign in every environment. The dataset comprises 49 classes/signs, all of which were made with two hands and belong to the Level I category in terms of popularity. To enhance the dataset, three types of augmentations - translation, shear, and rotation were employed. The ViT model, pre-trained on the Kinetics dataset, was trained on the variation of augmented datasets with 2 to 40 times samples for each original video, where the training set includes original and augmented videos of 8 volunteers and the test set includes only original videos of one particular volunteer. Experimental results reveal that the combination of rotation and shear outperformed the others, achieving an accuracy of 93% on the 20 times augmented samples per class per signer dataset. We believe this study sheds light on small-scale dataset-based SLR tasks and video/action recognition in general. © 2023 IEEE.

A Large-Scale Exploratory Study of Android Sports Apps in the Google Play Store

Context: Prior studies on mobile app analysis often analyze apps across different categories or focus on a small set of apps within a category. These studies either provide general insights for an entire app store which consists of millions of apps, or provide specific insights for a small set of apps. However, a single app category can often contain tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of apps. For example, according to AppBrain, there are 46,625 apps in the "Sports" category of Google Play apps. Analyzing such a targeted category of apps can provide more specific insights than analyzing apps across categories while still benefiting many app developers interested in the category. Objective: This work aims to study a large number of apps from a single category (i.e., the sports category). Our work can provide two folds contributions: 1) identifying insights that are specific to tens of thousands of sports apps, and 2) providing empirical evidence on the benefits of analyzing apps in a specific category. Method: We perform an empirical study on over two thousand sports apps in the Google Play Store. We study the characteristics of these apps (e.g., their targeted sports types and main functionalities) through manual analysis, the topics in the user review through topic modeling, as well as the aspects that contribute to the negative opinions of users through analysis of user ratings and sentiment. Results: We identified sports apps that cover 16 sports types (e.g., Football, Cricket, Baseball) and 15 main functionalities (e.g., Betting, Betting Tips, Training, Tracking). We also extracted 14 topics from the user reviews, among which three are specific to sports apps (accuracy of prediction, up-to-dateness, and precision of tools). Finally, we observed that users are mainly complaining about the advertisements and quality (e.g., bugs, content quality, streaming quality) of sports apps. Trust is essential in the constantly developing environment of online social networks. The Nexus Terroism Impact and Intro Trust facilitate the communication, decision-making, and maintenance of digital communities among individuals. Trust-based Learning with Classification Principle (TLCP) is introduced in this research to improve the assessment of trust in social networks. To ascertain its efficacy, our proposed methodology undergoes a 10-fold cross-validation against the Trust Assessment Methodology (TAM). The traditional Trust Assessment Model (TAM) evaluates and regulates trust in Internet social networking. This method incorporates trust assessment factors to generate a user dependability judgment that is both discriminatory and dynamic. The Trustworthy Account Management (TAM) challenge is designed to enhance digital trust by addressing disinformation, deception, and hostile conduct. The TLCP is able to accurately evaluate trust by utilizing reputation scoring, community analysis, and user behavior metrics. Trust levels are dynamically adjusted as a result of the identification of trustworthy behavioral patterns and danger indicators by machine learning algorithms and social media data. This research examines the connections between trust management and digital interactions and suggests a general solution to alleviate specific trust evaluation issues across online social networks. © 2024 IEEE.

The outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has had a profound impact on education worldwide. The rise of remote learning is one of the most significant changes in this regard, as many schools and universities were forced to close down by regional health authorities. This has also caused people to become more conservative in trade-offs between healthcare and education. Google Trends is the most common tool for analyzing online search behaviors. It is a free resource that provides information on the trends and changes in users' online interests over time based on certain terms and subjects. The online search queries on Google can be used to assess users' behaviors concerning online learning to forecast their choices regarding online education. This paper examines the frequency of users' web searches for online communication tools, courses, and learning terms. We statistically compared users in the Middle East and North Africa regions by using the volumes of searches recorded on Google Trends from January 2016 to August 2022. Moreover, we used machine learning techniques to identify differences among the keywords used. The findings statistically show that COVID-19 has led to an increase in the extent of students' attention to and interest in online learning. © 2023 IEEE.

Blood cell classification is a crucial task in medical diagnostics. This work can identify different blood cell types that play essential roles in the immune system and overall body function. This research introduces a custom Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model with SHAP for explainable multiclass classification of blood cell images. We classify eight types of blood cells—basophil, eosinophil, erythroblast, immunoglobulin (Ig), lymphocyte, monocyte, neutrophil, and platelet. An ablation study was conducted to optimize the CNN architecture. We compared its performance with eleven transfer learning models, including VGG16, ResNet101, and EfficientNet variants. Our model achieved 92.60% accuracy while maintaining lower complexity. The use of SHAP provides transparency by highlighting crucial features in the model’s decision-making process.

In addition to tanking the economy and society, credential fraud frequently damages the credibility of higher education. As the majority of conventional verification and issuance procedures are arduous, expensive, and obsolete, fraud has proliferated in numerous forms, ranging from paper-based counterfeit certificates to replicas enabled by database manipulation, and has reached exponential quantities. In this paper, the authors propose AlgoCert, a comprehensive credential verification solution that incorporates blockchain, self-sovereign identity (SSI), and decentralized identifier (DID) to introduce a more proficient, attack-resistant system that is user-friendly as well as effective at reducing widespread credential fraud. In addition, AlgoCert leverages stateful smart contracts on the Algorand blockchain and non-transferable non-fungible tokens (NFT), and neither students nor organizations are required to handle credentials in order to use the system. This paper provides a prototype of our solution and detail our attempts to develop a verification service with features, including data security, transcript authentication, and selective data disclosure. © 2022 IEEE.

Lightweight image encryption has become a critical area of cryptography, especially for resource-constrained devices like those used in the Internet of Things (IoT). Chaotic maps, known for their sensitivity to initial conditions, ergodicity, and seemingly random behavior, are commonly used in image encryption algorithms. These maps are employed in either a standalone or combined fashion during the diffusion or confusion stages of the encryption process. The high correlation between pixels in image data necessitates specialized algorithms. Pixel scrambling, or confusion, is a fundamental step in image encryption. It involves rearranging pixel positions to disrupt the correlation between neighboring pixel values. This study enhances the Corner Traversal algorithm, a pixel scrambling technique, by using chaotic maps to determine the algorithm parameters at each layer. This modification increases the nonlinearity of the encryption process. The results demonstrate that these improvements lead to a more secure encryption scheme compared to the original Corner Traversal algorithm. The performance of the enhanced algorithm is evaluated by comparing it to the original version.
