Density-based spatial clustering in the presence of obstacles

This paper proposes a density based clustering algorithm which takes obstacles into consideration. The proposed Clustering with Obstacle Entities algorithm COE-DBSCAN is based on the DBSCAN algorithm, which performs effective clustering for spatial data based on the notion of density. The paper presents a survey of existing spatial clustering algorithms and identifies the problems of related algorithms that deal with obstacles. The complexity of the proposed algorithm COE-DBSCAN is analyzed and some experimental work is presented. It is shown that COE-DBSCAN overcomes the problems of existing spatial clustering algorithms considering obstacles. The paper is concluded with some suggestions for further research issues. © Faculty of Engineering Alexandria University.

This paper deals with the use of the Chebyshev-Padé approximation (CP) in order to achieve accurate direct discrete-time approximations to the fractional-order differentiator/integrator. It is shown how, for a given order of the transfer functions, CP is much more accurate at low frequencies than the continued fraction expansion (CFE). Furthermore, CP can be more accurate than a CFE approximation of a higher order.

Genetic algorithms are one of the effective algorithms for hard optimization problems. They can escape from the local minima, however, the amount of their computation is often large. To decrease the amount of the computation and enhance the algorithms, the uniform design is combined into the genetic algorithm. The new genetic operator has the local-search property similar to that in traditional optimization techniques and needs a minimal amount of computation in certain meaning. Thus the new genetic algorithm can generate a diversity of population and explore the search space effectively. Moreover, the new algorithm is globally convergent. The numerical results also show the effectiveness of the new algorithm with its less computation, higher convergent speed for all test functions.

The service-oriented environment offers the opportunity to create new applications, by combining existing applications offered as services, in order to react to the business' increasing pressure of quickly delivering new applications. With a large number of web services offering the same functionality, choosing the web services that meet best the client's quality of service (QoS) requirements is a very important task. We introduce a QoS-aware end to end web service composition approach that handles all the stages from the web service discovery step, to the actual binding of the services. This approach uses our method of expressing nonfunctional preferences, which requires minimal effort on the part of the clients, but offers great flexibility in managing trade-offs. We define a QoS preferences ontology and use it in our semantic web service selection to choose an initial candidate list of services for every task in the orchestration model. Then, one concrete service is chosen from each candidate list and is boand to the corresponding task. This step involves computing and comparing the aggregated QoS of the resulting composite services. The selection is performed using a genetic algorithm.

Current concerns about data privacy have lead to increased focus on data anonymization methods. Differential privacy is a new mechanism that offers formal guarantees about anonymization strength. The main challenge when using differential privacy consists in the difficulty in designing correct algorithms when operating on complex data types. One such data type is sequential data, which is used to model many actions like location or browsing history. We propose a new differential privacy algorithm for short sequence counting called Recursive Budget Allocation (RBA). We show that RBA leads to lower relative errors than current state of the art techniques. In addition, it can also be used to improve relative errors for generic differential privacy algorithms which operate on data trees.

This work describes the development and implementation of a single-camera SLAM system,introducing a novel data validation algorithm.A 6-DOF monocular SLAM method developed is based on the Delayed Inverse-depth(DI-D) Feature Initialization,with the addition of a new data association batch validation technique,the Highest Order Hypothesis Compatibility Test,*** DI-D initializes new features in the system defining single hypothesis for the initial depth of features by stochastic *** HOHCT is based on evaluation of statistically compatible hypotheses,and search algorithm designed to exploit the Delayed Inversedepth technique *** with real data are presented in order to validate the performance of the system.

Falling film evaporators and condensers have demonstrated a good performance in air-conditioning and refrigeration. A study of falling film evaporation and condensation models is presented in this document. Two different evaporator models and a condenser model are being developed considering a trade-off between efficiency and accuracy. These models are based on classical Newton's viscosity law and Nusselt falling film theory. Two libraries, with evaporator and condenser components, compatible with Modelica. Fluid, Modelica. Thermal and Modelica. Media have been implemented. The presented simulations have the expected behaviour. These models will be used to complete a model of a heat pump.

This paper describes a new way to perform automated experiments using virtual laboratories. Experiments are developed and executed using a new software tool: the Experiment Editor. This tool uses virtual laboratories applications designed with educational purposes. The main features/advantages of the Experiment Editor are: 1) the possibility of modifying the initial functionality of the laboratories (i.e. adding new controllers to the plant), 2) analyzing the obtained results during the experiment and performing complex or repetitive tasks in a simple way, 3) and any others explained in the paper. To illustrate the utility of the Experiment Editor a very well-known system is used: the water tank system. © 2016

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are one of the applications of device-to-device (D2D) technology, where two UAVs can communicate with or without the existence of a base station. It facilitates high content delivery, low latency, low cost, and high data rate communication in wireless networks. Despite the aforementioned benefits, an eavesdropping attack is one of the critical challenges that cause interference in UAV communication in the presence of an eavesdropper. To mitigate the aforementioned challenges, we proposed a secure resource allocation for UAV communication in wireless networks. The applied single carrier orthogonal frequency division multiple access (SC-OFDMA) technique utilize the orthogonality feature to provide secure UAV communication in wireless networks. Moreover, a zero-sum game approach is considered to enable the secure and optimal resource allocation for UAV communication. The main aim of the zero-sum game theory is to maximize the communication channel's data rate and secrecy capacity to achieve a secure and optimal UAV communication scenario in wireless networks. Finally, the performance and simulation of the proposed approach are evaluated against the existing random approach in terms of various metrics such as data rate and secrecy capacity of the communication channel. © 2023 IEEE.

Existing software allows the development of high quality interactive applications that permit their implementation in laboratories, both virtual and remote. To perform an experiment, the user needs to know how these applications are implemented. In addition, when coding an experiment, the user has to manage the language in which the simulation was created and needs to handle fluently a simulation language just to perform experiments. In the academic field these simulations are used to create virtual and remote laboratories. The authors propose a tool to develop automated experiments for these laboratories. It is intended that the experiments use a powerful and simple language to improve students interaction with the laboratories. That is, avoid repetitive tasks using simple algorithms, data collection and analysis of results, among other features. A new environment for the development of experiments in the authoring tool Easy Java(script) Simulations (EjsS) is proposed. It permits the decoupling of the application design phase from the experiment design. It has been equipped with a language capable of encircling all the expected commands, such as creating events, launching simultaneous applications or modifying their variables. Set with a high level layer, the language allows less experienced users to create their own experiments without having any knowledge of how the application was made. These features will be explained throughout the paper and some physic and control examples of use, as a controller for a cylindrical and a circular tank or a motion controller for a remote robot, will be given to demonstrate the potential of this new environment. © 2015, IFAC (International Federation of automatic control) Hosting by Elsevier Ltd.
