Block motion estimation with full search is computationally complex. To reduce this complexity, different methods have been proposed, including partial distortion, which can reduce the computational complexity with no loss of image quality. We propose a distortion-based partial distortion search (DPDS) based on the magnitude of distortion and adaptive update of the matching order. We calculate absolute differences for all pixels in the predicted block point. Pixels are then sorted by the amount of distortion in a descending order for the matching process, which produces a scanning map. The sum of the absolute differences (SAD) of other candidate positions is then computed from this matching order. We also use an update of the scanning map by checking the increase in the number of absolute differences for the SAD value. The proposed DPDS algorithm improves the computational efficiency, compared with the original PDS scheme, because the accumulated value of the absolute pixel differences can rapidly reach the current minimum SAD value. The proposed algorithm is 4-13 times faster than the full search method with the same visual quality.

The prediction of solar storms from real-time satellites data is an essential to protect various aviation, power, and communication infrastructures. For this reason, current research interest is focusing on creating systems that can predict solar fare accurately. This paper combers Gramian Angular Fields (GAF) images and Markov Transition Field (MTF) images that have been generated by converting pre-flare Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) data from 2010 to 2016. After that, the deep learning neural network for the solar flare production platform accepts both MTF and GAF images as input to generate the predictions. Furthermore, this paper;investigated using MTF and GAF images spritely as input to the solar flare production platform. After that, the results of MTF and GAF images were compared using various prediction verification measures. © 2022 IEEE.

Java has recently joined C and C++ as a relatively high-level language suitable for developing real-time applications. Java's garbage collection, while generally a useful feature, can be problematic for real-time applications if collection occurs with unpredictable frequency and latency. The Real-Time Specification for Java#8482;(RTSJ) incorporates a scoped-memory model, akin to regions, that is not subject to garbage collection. However, applications are subject to strict rules concerning how objects can reference each other in scoped memory. Unfortunately, almost all extant Java code, including Java's vast and useful runtime libraries, will not execute properly in scoped-memory areas without significant modification. In this paper, we show that programs written in a pure functional programming language can be executed in a provably safe manner using scoped memory in RTSJ. This new connection allows extant implementations of important abstract data types to migrate safely to RTSJ. We also explore the effect of RTSJ's referencing rules on the asymptotic, real-time behavior of some abstract data types. Copyright © 2007 ACM.

The use of medicinal plants has been a longstanding practice in traditional medicine worldwide. Accurately identifying medicinal plants is crucial for determining their medicinal properties and potential applications. However, it can be a challenging task due to the complexity of their appearance. Variations in growth stage, lighting, and imaging conditions can make classification challenging, which limits the application of traditional methods for plant identification. This paper proposes a deep learning-based approach that uses a convolutional neural network (CNN) based on the VGG-16 model. With a dataset of 25,686 images, the CNN is capable of learning and representing complex features in images, enabling it to recognize and classify medicinal plants with high accuracy. The proposed approach can efficiently classify plants with different growth stages, lighting conditions, and imaging settings, providing a reliable tool for plant identification. We achieved an impressive recognition rate of 98%, demonstrating the feasibility of using deep learning techniques for accurate plant classification. The proposed approach has enormous potential for providing healthcare professionals and herbal medicine researchers with a reliable tool for identifying herbal plants. the study represents an essential advancement in the use of deep learning techniques for medicinal plant recognition, overcoming the challenges posed by their complex appearance. The proposed approach has farreaching implications and can significantly impact the field of herbal medicine research, enabling researchers and healthcare professionals to identify and classify medicinal plants more accurately © 2023 IEEE.

PEP-side caching is used in request-response access control mechanisms to increase the availability and reduce the processing overhead on PDP. Nonetheless, this paper shows that using this approach may open an insider threat port that can be used to bypass access control models in cloud and distributed relational databases. Moreover, the paper proposes a light model that detects and prevents the threat without affecting the performance of PEP and PDP, and it keeps the advantages of PEP-side caching model. © 2013 IEEE.

Exergaming has been heralded as a promising approach to increase physical activity in hard-to-reach populations such as sedentary young adults. By combining physical activity with entertainment, researchers and developers hope that the excitement and immersion provided by a computer game will result in increased motivation and dissociation from the discomfort of physical exercise. A different approach to improve physical activity is the use of music. Music, in particular if synchronised with the rhythm of exercise, has been shown to increase performance and decrease the amount of perceived effort for the same performance. So far little research has been done on the combined effect of music and gameplay in exergaming. In this paper we investigate the effect of game-music synchronisation for an immersive exergame. We present a simple yet effective music analysis algorithm, and a novel exergame enabling synchronisation of gameplay with the music's intensity. Our results indicate that our exergame significantly increases enjoyment and motivation compared to music alone. It slightly increases performance, but also increases perceived effort. We did not find any significant differences between gameplay synchronised and not synchronised with the music. Our results confirm the positive effects of music while exercising, but suggest that gameplay might have a bigger effect on exergame effectiveness, and more research on the interaction between gameplay and music needs to be done. © 2017 The Author(s).

The purpose of this paper is to reduce the Denial of Service (DoS) attacks on peer-to-peer networks by hiding the position of the file and to prove the effectiveness through the fuzzy logic. In general to protect the files in the serverless distributed file systems from the attacker, we have to maintain large number of copies of the original file that leads to storage overhead. This paper presents location hiding approach that needs only minimum number of copies of file. The location hiding approach uses Location Key and routing guard. We use chord protocol to implement peer-to-peer system. We use fuzzy logic to develop a graph that provides better performance of the Location hiding approach. © 2011 IEEE.

Alongside multitude of innovations and consequential changes in lifestyle, the ability to access home appliances or security cameras over the Internet has been in demand for some years now. In this paper, we propose an efficient, low-cost and user-friendly method to access networked home appliances over the Internet, providing strong, well integrated, three levels of security to the whole application and user data. We present a scheme in which, iris image is used for user authentication and after performing its hashing (using BioHashing), it is sent to the server through a secure communication channel utilizing Secure Socket Layer (SSL). The deterministic feature sequence from the iris image is extracted using 1D log-Gabor filters. Mersenne twister random number generator algorithm is used to produce an array of pseudo-random numbers which is later orthonormalised employing Gram-Schmidt orthonormalization algorithm for performing BioHashing. In addition to this protected interaction mechanism, we use a single Authentication Server in order to enable access to the home appliances of a complete housing society via Internet, which reduces user responsibility and improves accessibility of this endeavor without compromising on system security. We demonstrate the perfect recognition efficiency of this system with equal error rate (EER) of 0% on CASIA 1 iris image dataset.
